Kelley Deal
Kelley Deal and her twin sister, Kim Deal, grew up in Dayton, Ohio. When they were teenagers, they formed their own folk-rock duo, The Breeders, playing at local truck stops. When Kim moved to Boston in 1986 and joined a new band, The Pixies, Kelley moved to Los Angeles, where she was a computer programmer, and rumored to also being a caterer. She was asked to join the new Breeders line-up in 1990 to record an album, but she couldn't get time off work. However, in 1992, she did join The Breeders as third guitarist to record the "Safari" EP. Kelley became lead guitarist in 1993, just in time to record "Last Splash". While the Breeders were doing "Lollapolooza" in 1994, Kelley developed a heroin addiction. She was sent to rehab in 1995. When she was released from rehab in 1996, she put together her own band, The Kelley Deal 6000. The band (often referred to as "TKD6K") was originally called "Solid State", but another band already had rights to it. "TKD6K" released two albums, "Go to the Sugar Alter" and "Boom Boom Boom". Kelley disbanded the band later and joined Kim, also band-less, in recording demos. The sisters found themselves new band-mates in 2000 (Richard Presley Jr., Mando Lopez and Jose Medeles of 'FEAR') and released "Title TK" in 2002. Now, Kelley is traveling with Kim on the Pixies reunion tour, filming. The Breeders will release a new album in 2006.

Did not play for Breeders first album, "Pod" (1990), because she could not get time off from work. Tanya Donelly from Throwing Muses played lead guitar, instead. Joined The Breeders in 1992 to work on "Safari" EP. Replaced Tanya as lead guitarist in 1993 to record "Last Splash".

The Kelley Deal 6000 released two albums, "Go to the Sugar Alter" and "Boom! Boom! Boom!", both in 1997, on Kelley's own label, "Nice Records".

  • Quotes
I hate the misconception that I joined a band and became a heroin addict. I started shooting up when I was a teenager. I was a practicing alcoholic in my day job; I was working in a computer company, I had top-secret clearance for what I was doing, and I was turning up for work in the same clothes I had worn the day before, having stayed up all night on ecstasy.
