Jorge Oliver, born and raised in Puerto Rico, is an independent
filmmaker. Jorge is the first male filmmaker in the history of Puerto
Rican cinema, to openly deal with gay images. His films have been
featured in film festivals in the United States and around the world,
including the Cork International Film Festival, the Havana Film
Festival and the Festival de Viña del Mar in Chile. His short,
"Written", received an honorable mention at the Chicago Lesbian and Gay
International Film Festival and Best Gay & Lesbian Short at the 2001
Latino Film Festival, San Francisco. His documentary, "Pride In Puerto
Rico", is distributed by Frameline. His first feature documentary,
"Free to Love," won best documentary at the 2014 Rincón International
Film Festival in Puerto Rico.
Jorge holds an MA in Media Studies from the New School University and an MFA in Cinema from San Francisco State University. Jorge is the dean of the School of Art at Pratt Institute.
