In the entertainment world, attitude, talent and perseverance is a must! Working character Actor Dennis Jay Funny, a Gemini and a twin, is embodiment of these ingredients. No, he's not a comedian who changed his name to make people smile. Funny is his actual birth name and everything Dennis Jay Funny touches is serious business.

His parents met in Westchester County, NY where they attended different high schools. Dennis and his twin (the Funny Twins) were born in Tacoma, Washington at Joint Base Lewis-McChord where his father had recently been stationed then raised back in Westchester, NY. Voted "class clown & most popular" at Alexander Hamilton High school, the math standout (who scored 100% Algebra, 95% Geometry & 97% Trigonometry on Regents Final exams) then went on to engineering powerhouse, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (rpi.edu).

In Dennis' 1st film, sports epic "Any Given Sunday", director Oliver Stone utilized Shark player, '#47's' unique acting expertise and diverse skills. A few years later the New York character actor was encored by Stone in the opening sequence of his "World Trade Center" film as the musical hipster waiting on the subway platform the morning of September 11th.

A longtime underground event promoter in New York City; his friendly notoriety has inspired a following of dedicated revelers. An extensive traveler, Dennis has forged positive relationships worldwide. This former Wall Streeter has dedicated his life to inspiring others. The only remnant of his white collar past is a trademark trail of cigar smoke left in his wake, though he claims he is cutting back. When asked what's next? He replied, "Who knows? In 1999 he brought his head shot on his Miami Super Bowl trip hoping to submit them for the Oliver Stone movie, "Any Given Sunday" being shot there. On crowded Ocean Drive in South Beach, he was asked for a light. After a brief conversation the gentleman mentioned he was a talent scout and thought he'd be great for the film. Dennis auditioned a few days later & joined the cast the 2nd day of shooting. He stayed in Miami (3) & Dallas (1 month) to complete filming. Because of his notoriety, Warner Brothers had the New York "Any Given Sunday" premiere in Time Square with Dennis hosting; He himself brought 300+ family and friends.
This former Cub Scout from den 8, pack 86 in Ossining, New York began his acting preparation in 4th grade singing, acting, dancing and playing the trumpet in Roosevelt & Park elementary school productions in Ossining. His 1st starring role was as a circus performer in Mrs. Finkelstein's 5th grade class student film.
His parents Stephen Funny & Rudi Thomas attended high school in Elmsford and Mount Vernon respectively in Westchester, New York where they met, were married and settled down. He and his twin were born in Tacoma, Washington at Joint Base Lewis McChord when his dad was drafted. Soon afterwards they returned home to New York where he grew up. His parents separated years later; he moved 5 times between kindergarten and 8th grade. He & twin are the oldest of his siblings; 3 sisters (Donna Kennie, Tamala Daniel and Dr. Margaret Danielle Funny) & one brother (Stephen Dale Funny).
Made writing/producing/directing debut in a commercial video for his Alexander Hamilton High communications class for a fictional cologne called, "Rock". It starred his friends Sam, John & Steve with RUN DMC's "King of Rock" as the background music. It was a class favorite & he received an "A". Attended the same High school as fellow actor, Giancarlo Esposito.
He found his first job as a management trainee in the Engineering department easy and was often bored. He rested his eyes during class after finishing an assignment early. His boss sarcastically asked if he was happy there and was he ready to pursue his real dreams. Dennis said yes, and left the company that same day. Dennis is a longtime entrepreneur & underground event promoter in New York City.
In Oliver Stone's "World Trade Center" film he is the musical hipster waiting on the subway platform the morning of September 11th. Dennis portrays a recurring Henchman character, Jay Hammer in the hit Fox5 TV series 'Gotham' about Batman seasons 1-4.
Dennis is the 1st cousin of the current and youngest Mayor of Mount Vernon, NY, Richard William Thomas. Dennis splits time between New York City, LA, Hawaii, Florida and is a frequent traveler abroad.
As an undergrad, Dennis pledged the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated at his Alma mater Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (rpi.edu) in Troy, New York. Majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in drama, Dennis played Varsity Football, Rugby club and inter-fraternal Basketball & Football.
Dennis recently appeared in film, "Wolves", HBO miniseries, "The Night Of" and Netflix film, 'Barry'. As well as season 1 episode #2 of HBO comedy show, 'Crashing', Netflix Science Fiction film, 'OKJA' and "Chuck" feature film.
