Maddie Poppe becomes only 6th woman to win ‘American Idol’ in 16 seasons, joining Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood [Watch]

Defying the odds, 20-year-old Maddie Poppe just became the sixth woman to win “American Idol” in the 16-year history of the reality TV show. This Clarksville, Iowa resident was predicted to come in second place to Gabby Barrett, but instead America chose Maddie as their Season 16 champion. When the votes were tabulated in ABC’s grand finale on May 21, 2018, Gabby came in third place while Caleb Lee Hutchinson was named the season’s runner-up. Fantasia Barrino's heart is heavy this week.   The Grammy winner's 18-year-old nephew, Tyquan Vonricco Washington, was fatally shot on Wednesday in Greensboro, N.C. The Greensboro Police Department confirmed the sad news and announced the arrest of suspect David Lee White, Jr., 21, who was charged with first-degree murder and currently remains in jail without bond. American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino‘s nephew was killed in a shooting Tuesday in North Carolina.

Tyquan Von Ricco Washington was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the road in front of a home in Greensboro, North Carolina, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

While paramedics tried to save Washington, the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at Moses Cone Hospital.

Police allege the teen was shot during a dispute between himself and 21-year-old David Lee White, Jr.

Hours after Washington’s death, White was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Guilford County Jail without bond,

Rasual Butler and Leah Labelle‘s memorial service has been announced by the late NBA star’s only child.

His daughter, Raven Butler, shared the details of the gathering on Instagram Friday with a photo of the invite that read: “Please join Rasual Butler and Lean Labelle’s family and close friends as we celebrate their lives with a memorial service.”

It will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Potter’s House, the Los Angeles Christian church where Butler and Labelle were longtime members. The church’s Thursday night service was streamed online and dedicated in their memory.

Ex-nba Player Rasual Butler, ‘American Idol’ Alum Leah Labelle Killed in Car Crash

Former NBA player Rasual Butler died on Wednesday morning in a car crash in Studio City, Calif. He was 38.

A statement released by Butler’s former team the La Clippers confirmed that he and his wife Leah Labelle, a singer who competed on season three of “American Idol,” were both killed in the accident.

Officials are still investigating the tragedy. According to NBC4, police received a call describing an accident at about 2:30 a.m. Butler’s vehicle hit a curb and tumbled before crashing in a plaza.

Butler finished his basketball career during the 2015-2016 season with the San Antonio Spurs. During his 14-year stint in the NBA, Butler played for multiple teams, including the Miami Heat, New Orleans Hornets, Chicago Bulls, and Indiana Pacers. He played college basketball at La Salle University.

Labelle reached the Top 12 on “American Idol” in 2004. She was later signed to Epic Records in 2011 and released two singles on the [link

Lifetime Orders Laurieann Gibson Unscripted Series, Sets Premiere for Laverne Cox’s ‘Glam Masters’ (Exclusive)

Lifetime has ordered two new unscripted series and set premiere dates for several others, Variety has learned exclusively.

First, the network has ordered “Laurieann Gibson: Beyond the Spotlight,” which will premiere on March 2. The series follows the acclaimed choreographer and her team at BoomKack Worldwide. Each episode offers a look into Gibson’s process as she shapes and steers the creative narrative of her clients that include Sean “Puffy” Combs, Fantasia Barrino, Tamar Braxton, French Montana and many more. The series is produced by Ish Entertaninment for Lifetime. Michael Hirschorn, Melissa Cooper, Jessica Antonini, James Sunderland, Brandon Panaligan serve as executive producers for Ish and Gibson is producer. Mioshi Hill serves as executive producer for Lifetime.

’Tis the season! Fantasia Barrino is giving fans a dose of classic holiday tunes with her new release, Christmas After Midnight.

Et caught up with Barrino during a promo shoot in Los Angeles last week, where she dished about the album being inspired by her late grandmother, whose birthday was on Christmas.

“Christmas was everything for her,” the American Idol alum revealed while reminiscing about her favorite Christmas memories of “good music” and “nothing but love.”

“I want to keep that going. I feel like times have changed, families have changed,” Barrino explained. “People are not as close anymore as they used to be, and one thing about our house was music always kept us close.”

Fantasia Barrino is getting “honest” about the forthcoming reboot of American Idol.

“I hope that it does really [well],” the American Idol winner told Et on Tuesday. “It had a long run, that’s a blessing in itself.”

The 33-year-old singer won season three of the singing competition, which originally aired on Fox from 2002 to 2016.

After the epic Idol finale, rumors of a potential revival began swirling, and in May, Katy Perry confirmed that she would be one of the show's new judges. Two months later, Ryan Seacrest revealed that he would be returning to host the show, while Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were announced as judges last month.

‘Alien Invasion: S.U.M.1’ Picked Up By Gravitas Ventures in North America (Exclusive)

Gravitas Ventures has acquired all North American distribution rights on sci-fi thriller “Alien Invasion: S.U.M.1,” which stars “Game of Thrones” actor Iwan Rheon. Munich-based sales agent Global Screen is handling global rights.

The movie, which is produced by Christian Alvart (“Nick – Off Duty,” “Case 39,” “Pandorum,” “Antibodies”), has its theatrical roll-out set for Dec. 1, day and date in 10 markets. It premiered at the Shanghai Intl. Film Festival and also played at the Fantasia Intl. Film Festival.

The film centers on S.U.M.1, a committed young soldier who has lived his whole life underground. He enters a dark and desolate forest, his mission: to keep at bay the Nonesuch, a breed of hostile alien creatures. As reports circulate of frequent, devastating attacks, the routine military operation becomes a nightmare.

‘American Idol’ Judges, Showrunner, Host: Who’s in for the Revival?
ABC will make its upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday at Lincoln Center — and attendees will be expecting an update on the network’s biggest new show, the revival of “American Idol.”

Sources tell Variety that a deal with Ryan Seacrest to return as series host is near completion, and that Trish Kinane is set to return as showrunner. Kinane will executive produce the revival with FremantleMedia North America. It is unclear whether Seacrest or Kinane will be in attendance at Tuesday’s upfront. But if a deal with Seacrest can be wrapped quickly, he would be a likely candidate to make an appearance at the presentation.

Variety has also learned that “Idol” alum Carrie Underwood has held talks with ABC and producers about joining “American Idol” as a judge. In addition, Adam Lambert’s name has been in the mix for a potential role, sources confirm. Reports out of the U.K
