Film Review: ‘Bleed’

Film Review: ‘Bleed’
The decent horror melodrama “Bleed” finds some yuppies, newly moved to the countryside, experiencing spooky signs that lead them to a long-burnt-down prison and its unpleasant secrets. Though Tripp Rhame’s Georgia-shot debut feature goes over the top in the last lap and sports plenty of logic gaps, there are enough “boo!” scares and atmosphere here to satisfy the average genre fan. The film opened on limited U.S. screens Friday, but will primarily access its audience via home-format sales.

After a 1979 prologue suggesting dire doings in a nearly abandoned small town — and a dire fate for one red-haired little girl — the present-tense story finds the heavily pregnant Sarah (Chelsey Crisp) and her doctor hubby, Matt (Michael Steger), just settled into a spacious old rural house they’re renovating. They welcome the arrival of her longtime friend Bree (Brittany Ishibashi) and her charming new beau, Dave (Elimu Nelson), for a weekend visit.

Bleed Review

It’s not often that a movie’s run-time doubles as both a strength and a weakness, but Tripp Rhame’s Bleed is one such balancing act. Clocking in at a brisk 1:17, credits included, we’re given a streamlined paranormal story boasting a quick pace, and little background concerning the film’s undead antagonist. Cannibal Kane is a new breed of monster, but unlike Freddy or Jason, his beginning is an unclear mess that’s overlooked in favor of a few jump-scares. Again, because the film runs by so quickly, we get our chills without much investment, yet with more attention paid to lore crafting, this could have been an introduction to a new horror mainstay. Not just a quick, spooky write-off.

Our journey starts with Sarah (Chelsey Crisp) and Matt (Michael Steger), two newlyweds who are celebrating their successful pregnancy with friends. Bree (Brittany Ishibashi) and her boy-toy

Review: Bleed, A Mixtape Of Horror Genres

Tripp Rhame's Bleed is a backwoods horror film, and with a prologue set in the 70s, you keep expecting the Sawyer clan to rear their ugly heads at any moment. However, it very quickly becomes a bit more than that. The setup is Horror Movie 101: pregnant Sarah (Chelsey Crisp) and husband Matt (Michael Steger) move out to a secluded house in your typical middle-of-nowhere hick town, where they're joined by friend Bree (Brittany Ishibashi), her boyfriend Dave (Elimu Nelson), Sarah's good-for-nothing ghost hunter brother who lives in a van (down by the river) Eric (Riley Smith) and his new-agey girlfriend Skye (Lyndon Smith). They decide to take a field trip to a nearby burned-down abandoned prison, because this is a horror film and they...

Film Review: ‘Ana Maria in Novela Land’

It’s not absolutely necessary to be familiar with the conventions and archetypes of soapy telenovelas to enjoy a few laughs with “Ana Maria in Novela Land,” a lightweight comedy about an obsessed viewer who magically switches places with the leading lady of her favorite TV show. But those who have at least a nodding acquaintance with the highly addictive serial dramas will smile even more often than the uninitiated as director and co-scripter Georgina Garcia Riedel (“How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer”) affectionately satirizes both the limited-run series and their most avid aficionados. This overlong but modestly amusing bilingual indie could attract a few fans of its own in limited theatrical release and ancillary platforms.

Edy Ganem, of Lifetime’s “Devious Maids,” is by turns perky, sultry and screechy in the dual role of Ariana, the sexy/sullen heroine of a popular telenovela titled “Pasion sin limites” (“Passion Without Limits”), and Ana Maria,

Watch: Ana Maria is Not Herself in Exclusive 'Ana Maria in Novela Land' Clip

Following the success of  "Jane The Virgin," which is based on a telenovela, the new film "Ana Maria in Novela Land" follows the magical conundrum of super fan, Ana Maria, who swaps places with her favorite telenovela star, Ariana Tomosa. The film stars Edy Ganem ("Devious Maids") who takes on the roles of both Ana Maria and Ariana Tomosa. In the new clip, we see a very confused and angry Ariana Tomosa who confronts Ana Maria's parents, presumably before realizing that they have switched places. The acting in this clip appears to be very much in the vein of a telenovela, so the film is sure to be a fun watch. Directed by Georgina Garcia Riedel, the film also stars Michael Steger, Luis Guzmán and the late Elizabeth Peña. The film, distributed by Fluency Studios, will open in select theaters today, February 27. Check out the clip below: Read More:

Jennie Garth Disses 90210 Reboot, Says Cast

MasterChef: The Professionals: Monday (November 4) at 8.30pm / The Choir: Sing While You Work: Monday at 9pm on BBC Two

It's a one-two punch of refined reality shows this Monday, with MasterChef: The Professionals and The Choir returning to BBC Two to remind us that Joe Public can be more entertaining than a media-trained orange Essexian or a louche brute from Chelsea.

MasterChef sees silver-haired face-puller extraordinaire Michel Roux Jr and his formidable sous-chef Monica (as far as we're concerned she doesn't have a surname. She's like Cher) re-team with Gregg Wallace to put more career cooks through their paces,

'90210' series finale: Everything settles in the bombing aftermath of 'We All Fall Down'

Most of the time on a soapy show like "90210," a bomb explosion would lead to break-ups, fear and even death. But this is the show's series finale. After five seasons of heartbreak and drama, the kids were due for some happy endings in "We All Fall Down."

And that's what they get.

The "90210" finale picks up right where the previous episode left off. Whatever that explosion was that took down the theater, there are injuries and a lot of damage.

Everyone quickly descends upon the disaster site in order to do his or her thing. Liam (Matt Lanter), looking for a way to not go to Australia, rushes over. Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) takes a little longer (needing to spin her "wild night with the Prince"), but then she promptly turns the whole thing into a way to benefit herself.

And then there's Navid (Michael Steger) -- slightly injured himself, Navid

90210 Scoop: Are Adrianna & Navid Hooking Up — Again? New Pics

With the series finale fast approaching, it looks like one ’90210′ couple is feeling the pressure!

There may only be five episodes of 90210 left, but The CW sudser is definitely going out with a bang — several, actually — and it looks like Navid (Michael Steger) and Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) will be at the center of one of those bangs! Sneak-peek photos from the show’s April 15 episode reveal the former flames rekindling at a party, but the question is: why?

As much as I’d love a full-on #Navianna reunion, my 90210 senses tell me that Adrianna is just flirting with Navid to make Mark jealous. Another picture shows Silver (Jessica Stroup) sharing a tense, private moment with the show’s latest addition, so you know there’ll be no lack of drama there.

But the highlight of the episode — as evidenced by its title, “The Portrait Of The Artist As A Young

90210 Recap: Silver Gets Life-Changing News About Her Baby

With only five episodes left to go, the gang hit some major milestones — and a few crossroads — this week.

Now that we know our time with the 90210-ers is drawing to a close — the series finale airs May 13 — I’m reflecting on how much and why exactly I’ll miss them, which is what I pondered while watching the March 4 episode. Most of all, I’ll miss these kids’ uncanny ability to completely switch life directions on a weekly basis, then immediately achieving unfathomable success in their new field.

Take Liam (Matt Lanter), for example. The bartender-turned-model-turned-actor managed to launch a custom-surfboard company and snag himself a surfer girl this week — mere minutes after telling his bros that he wanted to launch a custom-surfboard company and snag himself a surfer girl. Her name is Sydney, and Liam really doesn’t care that she’s already married, or that her stepson
