TV4 Entertainment Launches Concrete Club as Genre-Based Studio (Exclusive)

Streaming channels specialist TV4 Entertainment has launched Concrete Club as an independent original content studio, Variety has learned exclusively.

The genre-based studio will develop, produce and distribute feature films and television series targeting underserved, global audiences for all screens. The new studio is touted as an extension of TV4 Entertainment’s portfolio of genre-based lifestyle, entertainment, and sports over-the-top streaming channels.

Concrete Club said Thursday it will create originals in the genres of existing and planned global streaming brands and use TV4 Entertainment’s channels as a development pipeline and guaranteed distribution for Concrete Club productions.

Concrete Club’s first theatrical release will be “Together,” opening June 15 at every Odeon Cinema across England, Scotland and Wales — making it one of the largest independent, self-distributed opening releases in U.K. history. Produced by TV4 Entertainment, the comedic drama was written and directed by Concrete Club’s studio head, Paul Duddridge.

‘Fathers and Daughters’ and ‘Mothers and Daughters’ Get New Trailers

Considering the amount of films focusing on that special bond between one’s parents, some filmmakers must have complicated relationships. One of two upcoming films explicitly about the subject, the latest from Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds), Fathers and Daughters, looks at the relationship between a Pulitzer Prize winning author as he tries to balance being a widower, mental health issues and raising his 5-year-old daughter. Flash-forward to present day and his daughter is still struggling with her childhood. But her love interest, Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) may be able to help her with that. Muccino is aiming for waterworks again with stars Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried playingthe father-daughter duo. The cast also features Jane Fonda, Diane Kruger, Octavia Spencer, and a new U.S. trailer has landed today.

Mothers And Daughters – Review

If you are looking for a movie to celebrate with Mom this Mother’s Day, the warm-hearted Mothers And Daughters offers a better option that the Garry Marshall comedy named for the holiday. Both films feature a star-studded ensemble cast but Mothers And Daughters features stories that actually deal with motherhood, unlike Marshall’s unfunny comedy.

While it is the better movie, Mothers And Daughters is not without flaws. It has so many characters that is hard to keep them all straight, much less get to know them, and the dramatic, heart-tugging stories also could have benefited from a little sprinkling of humor.

The film stars Susan Sarandon, Sharon Stone, Christina Ricci, Courteney Cox, Selma Blair and Mira Sorvino, among others, in a series of stories that overlap or connect in various ways. The interlocking stories are generally built around a photographer named Rigby Gray (Selma Blair).

Screen Media Films has acquired U.S. rights to the drama “Mothers Day,” starring Courtney Cox, Rosalyn Sanchez, Susan Sarandon and daughter Eva Amurri Martino, Sharon Stone, Christina Ricci and Paul Wesley, Variety has learned exclusively.

Screen Media is planning on a second quarter release that will be tied to Mother’s Day on May 8, 2016.

Lotus Entertainment will be taking meetings with international buyers during the American Film Market to continue to sell foreign rights.

Mothers Day” is Paul Duddridge’s feature film directing debut, with Nigel Levy co-directing. The script by Paige Cameron is based on a concept by Duddridge.

The production company is Siempre Viva Productions in association with Aloe Entertainment and Mass Hysteria Entertainment. Producers are Danielle James and Amy Williams, who are both working mothers.

The "Mother’s Day" cast continues to grow as Courteney Cox and Roselyn Sanchez have joined Paul Duddridge’s "Mother’s Day" cast, it was announced recently by the film’s producers Danielle James and Amy Williams. The drama is currently in production; shooting in Los Angeles will be completed by the fall, with a planned 2016 release date. The cast includes Susan Sarandon and her daughter Eva Amurri Martino, Sharon Stone, Christina Ricci, and Paul Wesley.

The film, which has been in development and production for the past three years, is being fostered by producers are Danielle James and Amy Williams who are both working moms.

In "Mother’s Day," interwoven stories of what it is to be a mom are tied together through the story of hip and happy single gal Rigby Gray, a rock photographer who is riding a career high when an unlikely and unexpected pregnancy forces her to turn her lens inward. As Rigby slowly comes to terms with what it might mean to change her life forever, she discovers with fresh eyes her own relationship with her estranged mother and, through a series of photographs documenting motherhood in all its varieties, she considers what it means to be maternal at all.

The film hopes to be a celebration of the unparalleled love between mothers and their children, the myriad of ways we connect in our modern day world, and explores the most important foundational relationship in our lives – the one with our mother.

Courteney Cox is known for her roles on the highly-successful shows “Friends” and “Cougar Town,” which just wrapped its sixth season, as well as her iconic role in the "Scream" films. Cox is represented by Wme and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Roselyn Sanchez can currently be seen in the Lifetime hit show “Devious Maids,” which is in production on its third season. Her film credits include "Rush Hour 2," "The Game Plan," "Nightstalker," and "Act of Valor." Sanchez is represented by Apa and Alchemy Entertainment.

Ellen Page is attached to star in the Rosalind Ross-penned indie drama "Lioness". The true story tale follows Lance Corporal Leslie Martz, a U.S. Marine and lesbian who was stationed in Haditha, Iraq. No director is attached at this stage.

Martz was sent to Afghanistan as a leader of a Female Engagement Team and tasked with the dual mandate of gaining the trust of Afghan women by equipping them with necessary skills for independence but also secretly extracting information from them about their Taliban husbands. [Source: THR]

Ellen Page to star in ‘Lioness’
The actress will play a Us Marine in the drama inspired by the real-life female soldiers who deployed alongside Special Forces under the Lioness Program.

James Dahl is producing Lioness from a screenplay by Rosalind Ross about a female operative on an anti-Taliban mission in Afghanistan.

Page will next be seen opposite Julianne Moore and Michael Shannon in Freeheld, which Lionsgate will release on October 2. She is currently filming Tallulah opposite Allison Janney for Route One Entertainment and Ocean Blue Entertainment.

Dahl’s credits include The End Of The Tour starring Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segal that A24 will release on July 31. Ross wrote El Rey Network’s Matador.

Original Danish "The Killing" star Sofie Grabol has joined the cast of Søren Kragh-Jacobsen's $3.7 million psychological thriller "The Hour of the Lynx" from "Submarino" scribe Tobias Lindholm. Shooting kicks off late September.
