True Crime Series Based on Sunny Von Bülow Murder Case in Development with Ucp

Universal Cable Productions is developing a show based on the trial and aftermath of Sunny Von Bülow’s murder, Variety has learned.

The scripted series marks an entry into the highly popular true crime genre for Ucp, following the success of TV projects like “Making A Murderer” on Netflix, “The Jinx” on HBO and the “Serial” podcast.

Set in the early ’80s, “The Von Bülow Affair” will follow the infamous trial of British socialite Claus Von Bülow for the murder of his wife, Sunny. The series is based on the 1983 book of the same name written by William Wright. Ilene Rosenzweig (“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”) has been tapped to write the TV adaptation.
