Lisa Thrasher, J.D., is an Independent Film Producer and Entertainment Lawyer with 20 years of entertainment industry work in Hollywood and a Film Business & Producing Professor at George Mason University. Lisa's films range from romantic comedy to drama, many of which have both premiered at top-tier film festivals and achieved commercial and critical success, winning numerous honors and awards including "Bini," a Student Academy Awards finalist (Narrative - Domestic Film School category.) Go Magazine named Lisa as one of the "Women We Love."
For over a decade Lisa co-headed POWER UP Films, a Los Angeles film production company for women and the LGBTQ community. As the President of Film Production & Distribution, Lisa developed, produced and/or distributed over twenty-five films, PSA commercials, and video content including: "GIRLTRASH: All Night Long" (Netflix, Amazon); "ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE" (Berlinale, Teddy Award Nominee; South by Southwest, Best Narrative Feature Jury Award) (Netflix); "Get to Know Us First" PSA Campaign (NBC, ABC, CBS); "Little Black Boot," (Sundance); "Billy's Dad is a Fudge-Packer" (Sundance); "DEBS" (Sundance; Berlinale, Best Narrative Short); and Stuck (Sundance, Honorable Mention.)
At 20th Century Fox Lisa conducted International Anti-Piracy Litigation, Trademark Prosecution, and International Affairs with Foreign Heads of State to protect the Studio's films. Lisa also represented 20th Century Fox on the Motion Picture Association of America's International Anti-Piracy Committee.
Lisa has taught film producing and distribution at a number of Universities and film festivals, including: Howard University in Washington, D.C.; Chung Ang University in Seoul, South Korea; University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York; Barcelona Mostra Lambda; Madrid's Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences; South by Southwest; Frameline; Miami LGBTQ; Belfast International; BFI London LGBTQ; Out in Africa at Johannesburg and Capetown; Taipei Women's; Tampa International LGBTQ; and, served as a Short Film Screener for the Sundance Film Festival.
Lisa earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, focusing on Intellectual Property & Entertainment Law. Lisa studied Photography, Fine Art and Graphic Design at Parsons School of Design and Photography, Fine Art and Film at Virginia Commonwealth University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography & Film.
