He graduated from Fordham University in 1947. A college classmate, renowned baseball announcer Vin Scully, encouraged him to apply for an announcing job at WRC-TV in 1950.
He was the host of It's Academic (1961) for 50 years.
He prepared for the show by researching pronunciations. He once spent an hour on the phone with the Russian Embassy until he could pronounce a Russian word properly.
