‘Two,’ from ‘The Photographer of Mauthausen’ Director Mar Targarona, Joins Film Factory Sales Slate (Exclusive)

‘Two,’ from ‘The Photographer of Mauthausen’ Director Mar Targarona, Joins Film Factory Sales Slate (Exclusive)
One of the Spanish-speaking world’s biggest sales forces, Film Factory Entertainment has swooped on sales rights to thriller “Two” (“Duo”), directed by Mar Targarona and the latest production from top Spanish genre auteur producer Rodar y Rodar.

Producer of two milestone titles of Spain’s genre auteur scene – J.A Bayona’s “The Orphanage” and Guillem Morales’ “Julia’s Eyes,” Targarona has built her own directorial career on suspense thrillers that prove unexpected and unpredictable in tone and resolution, such as 2016’s “Boy Missing” and “The Photographer of Mauthausen” – part true-events inspired record, part edge-of-set entertainment – in particular drawing strong notices. “Two” looks no exception. Its singular premise sees two strangers, a man and a woman in their 30s, wake up in an unknown place, naked and glued to each other by their stomachs. They struggle to understand how and why they got there – becoming increasingly terrified as they discover clues and the truth emerges.

Annecy: ‘Winnipeg, the Seed of Hope’ Set for Mifa Territory Focus
“Winnipeg, the Seed of Hope,” the Quirino Awards winner of a special call for projects made by La Liga – a joint venture of Argentina’s Animation!, Mexico’s Pixelatl and Spain’s Quirinos – will form part of a La Liga Annecy showcase featuring a bevy of the most anticipated animation titles from Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

One of Annecy’s Mifa market territory focuses, the La Liga spread bows Wednesday, June 17, online for delegates at Annecy, the world’s biggest animation event.

Adapting a graphic novel by Spain’s Laura Martel, “Winnipeg, Neruda’s Ship,” the project was initially created by Toni Marín, an executive producer on Ignacio Ferreras’ Annecy special distinction winner “Wrinkles,” based out of Barcelona’s La Ballesta.

Chile’s El Otro Film, France’s Marmitafilms and Spain’s 3 Doubles Producciones have boarded the project.

“Winnipeg, the Seed of Hope” tells a largely unknown true story — the odyssey of 2,200 Spanish refugees,

Polanski honored at Krakow Film & Music Fest

Polanski honored at Krakow Film & Music Fest
Pictures from the 2016 Krakow Fmf, which featured live performances of the scores from Sicario and Drive.

Now in its ninth year, Krakow’s Film and Music Festival (Fmf) brought together film composers and music professionals for a series of masterclasses and concerts in the heart of the city’s historic old town. This year’s festival ran from May 24-30, with an additional concert concluding its musical showcase on May 31.

The festival kicked off with a special distinction award for Roman Polanski, who was honoured by the Polish Filmmakers Association (Spf) for his contribution to Polish cinema. The 82-year-old Krakow native, who survived the Nazi’s Second World War takeover of Poland, leapt to the stage to receive his accolade and said: “I’m just a boy from Krakow, I never thought I would get this far.”

Polanski is back in the headlines this week after the Polish government said it will appeal a court’s decision

Krakow’s Film and Music Festival composes itself

Krakow’s Film and Music Festival composes itself
A celebration of film and television music was once again at the heart of Krakow’s Film and Music Festival, now in its eighth year.

Running from May 27-31, the event brought together more than 58 international composers - including Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love, Mon Roi), Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones), Jeff Beal (House of Cards), John Lunn (Downton Abbey) and Trevor Morris (The Borgias, The Tudors) – for a culmination of performances, panels and master classes.

“Composers are not often given the attention they deserve,” said Artistic Director Robert Piaskowski. “So we wanted to create a space that presents film music as art, and where audiences can come and appreciate a score’s symphonic sounds.”

Piaskowski is not alone in his interests. The festival now aligns itself as the start of the season, with similar musical events taking place in Tenerife and Cordoba in July and Vienna and Gent (that also hosts the World Soundtrack Awards) in October
