David Peñaranda (Valencia, 1999) is a Spanish film director, screenwriter, and photographer whose work has been recognized nationally and internationally. He made his directorial debut in 2020 with the short film El gato y el ratón (2020), which garnered multiple awards across various festivals. In 2021, Peñaranda worked as a 2nd Assistant Director on the feature film Tengamos la fiesta en paz (2021). The following year, he directed Colgados por el arte (2022), a celebrated short film that earned accolades, including the Audience Award at the prestigious Radio City International Film Festival.
Peñaranda's success continued in 2023 when he won First Prize in the 'Docs en Moviment' competition, organized by DocsValència, for his short documentary '(Des)Bloque creativo'. Later that year, he released Interlude: The Feeling of Dance (2023), an evocative exploration of dance and movement.
In early 2024, Peñaranda received a Special Mention of the Jury at the esteemed À100 competition, organized by À Punt and Las Provincias, for his short film L'emboscada (2024), inspired by the work of Luis García Berlanga. That same year, he directed Cartographic Drift (2024), his latest documentary, further solidifying his reputation as a filmmaker with a unique vision and narrative voice.
