Locating Silver Lake Review — Eiff 2018

Dumped by his girlfriend during graduation so that he doesn’t feature in her family photographs, would-be writer Daniel (Josh Peck) is left to begin a new life in Los Angeles lovesick and alone. He takes a room that’s Silver Lake adjacent, in a house shared by landlord Jose (Amaury Nolasco) and single mother Louisa (Valerie Cruz). When Jose suggests that he visits a local bar in order to take his mind off his ex and perhaps treat his writer’s block with some new experiences, he meets Seth (Finn Wittrock), a mysterious, motivated stranger who promises to do both.

To say much more would be to do Locating Silver Lake, the filmmakers and their audience, a disservice, for it is meticulously and methodically crafted to unfold in a very specific way. It’s not that there are potentially ruinous spoilers, per se, so much as an order to

Tyrant's Moran Atias Joins Midseason Fox Medical Drama The Resident
Tyrant alum Moran Atias has been added to the cast of The Resident, Fox’s midseason medical drama fronted by The Good Wife‘s Matt Czuchy.

Focusing on three doctors (played by Halt and Catch Fire‘s Manish Dayal, Czuchry and People vs. O.J. Simpson‘s Bruce Greenwood) and a dedicated nurse (Revenge‘s Emily VanCamp) at different stages of their careers, The Resident promises to “rip back the curtain to reveal the truth of what really happens, both good and bad, in hospitals across the country.” (I’ve screened the pilot and it’s a shame it’s being held for midseason.

I often question why movies are remade, especially those where it seems the remake has come just to remove subtitles and translate it to an English-speaking audience. This seemed to be the case with The Loft which is a new version of the director Erik Van Looy’s own movie Loft

The Following season 3 episode 1 review: New Blood

The Following America's craziest, most violent, unpredictable and poor taste show starring Kevin Bacon, is back for season 3...

This review contains spoilers.

3.1 New Blood

No matter where you go in New York City, there's some sort of dimly lit basement full of construction equipment. It seems like, as part of a power-saving measure, nobody ever has the lights on and they're incapable of turning them on. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the world of The Following, America's favorite dumb show about people getting shot, stabbed, strangled, and otherwise mutilated for entertainment purposes. Love it or hate it, and most people seem to hate it, this is a show that knows what it's here for, and it doesn't waste much time before jumping right into the kind of mayhem that we expect from Joe's cult of crazies.

It's a lovely wedding for Gina Mendez (Valerie Cruz) and her partner, capped off

The Loft is a remake of a 2008 Belgian film in which fFive friends who share a loft for their extramarital affairs begin to question one another after the body of an unknown woman is found in the property. The film was originally set to hit theaters in August, but Universal yanked it from the calendar back in June. Directed by Erik Van Looy, the film features a massive ensemble cast including Karl Urban, James Marsden, Isabel Lucas, Rhona Mitra, Rachael Taylor, Eric Stonestreet, Margarita Levieva, Kristin Lehman, Matthias Schoenaerts, Valerie Cruz and Robert Wisdom. The whole thing sounds like a mess and the release date movement makes it seem as if it's a troubled picture, but I can't deny a fair amount of curiosity and want to see it.
