Revry, the media company that distributes LGBTQ+ content across connected TV platforms, has hired a leading industry executive away from the region’s largest Spanish-language television broadcaster.
Daniel Schnider joined Revry last April as its Head of Business Development and Distribution Partnerships, according to his LinkedIn profile. At Revry, Schnider has worked to develop and execute on various development and partnership-focused strategies, including Revry’s recent launch on Paramount-owned free, ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) platform Pluto TV and its distribution via Tcl TV Plus.
Revry announced his hiring in a press release on Wednesday. A spokesperson said he was brought on in a consulting role after he left Televisa-Univision last year, and was hired to a more-formal position this year.
“The team at Revry are brilliant minds, but also happen to be dear friends whom I grew up with in the streaming media business,” Schnider said in a statement.

Kit Williamson’s new scripted half-hour comedy series “Unconventional” has been acquired by LGBTQ streaming network Revry.
Williamson, a six-time Emmy nominee best known as the creator and star of “Eastsiders,” stars in “Unconventional” as Noah Guillory, a queer millennial struggling with his 10-year marriage, possibly starting a family, and the future of his PhD program while also acting as the sperm donor to his sister Margot’s wife, Eliza.
The nine-episode season – each episode follows a month of Eliza’s pregnancy — will premiere on Revry on Feb. 11.
“‘Unconventional’ comes at a time where stories about marginalized communities are more important than ever and ‘Unconventional’ is an unapologetically queer show,” Williamson said Thursday. “Unfortunately, LGBTQ representation has diminished considerably since ‘Eastsiders’ ended, and mainstream depictions often shy away from the complex realities of queer love. Revry is the perfect home for the series and I couldn’t be more excited about the acquisition.

Tcl’s free streaming service is incorporating a free channel from one of the world’s leaders in LGBTQ+ content.
It seems that essentially all smart TV manufacturers are offering an ad-supported streaming service of their own these days. Tcl is no exception; the TV maker has a platform called TCLtv+ that features a large selection of free ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) channels, and that selection is getting a little bigger. On Thursday, Tcl announced it was adding an LGBTQ-themed channel from Revry, a worldwide leader in queer content.
Key Details: The Revry Fast channel offers a selection of LGBTQ+ content, including originals. The Revry channel is only available in select other places, including The Roku Channel. Revery also offers a subscription on-demand service starting at $7 per month. 7-Day Free Trial $6.99+ / month Revry via amazon.com
The deal between Tcl and Revry means that the main Revry Fast channel will arrive on TCLtv+ later this month.

There’s strength in numbers, and the axiom holds true every bit as much in the business world as it does in the natural world. That’s why smaller, independently-owned streaming platforms like Cineverse, kweliTV, Revry, and others are banding together to form what they have dubbed the Independent Streaming Alliance (Isa).

Founding members of the Isa include Allen Media Group, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (Csse) — which owns Redbox and Crackle — Cineverse, Future Today, kweliTV, Revry, Scripps, Tastemade, Tmb (Trusted Media Brands), and Vevo. Its stated goal is “to proactively engage and work collaboratively with consumers, platforms and media.”
“The formation of the Isa is long overdue,” Csse chief revenue officer Philippe Guelton said. “We are joining forces to promote the value of independent streamers, and to work hand-in-hand with platforms, advertisers, and regulatory bodies to ensure that we have a healthy ecosystem that benefits everyone,...

As the free, ad-supported streaming (Fast) sector continues to develop, a new trade group has been formed by 10 companies looking for parity with major media and tech companies.
The Independent Streaming Alliance describes itself as a “pro-competitive, independent industry forum to proactively engage and work collaboratively with consumers, platforms, regulators, and media.” Its founding members include Allen Media Group, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Cineverse, Future Today, kweliTV, Revry, Scripps, Tastemade, Tmb (Trusted Media Brands), and Vevo.
Collectively, the Isa’s founding companies generate more than a half-billion hours of watch time every month. Although most got to Fast early and have continued to invest there, they share a common concern about being at a disadvantage with ad buyers and other key constituents as larger media and tech companies increasingly throw their weight around. Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount Global and Lionsgate are among the bigger entities taking a closer...

On Valentine's Day, two digital media companies teamed up to create a channel a press release refers to as a "lovechild." Funny or Die has made a move to serve Lgbtq+ audiences by setting up shop on the queer streaming service Revry, where shows like Gay Of Thrones are now available.
As part of its agreement with Revry, Funny or Die has launched a channel that features Lgbtq-friendly content. Gay Of Thrones, in which hairstylist Jonathan Van Ness and his guests recap Game of Thrones episodes, is a natural fit for Revry's viewers.
The podcast Throwing Shade, which is co-hosted by Gay Of Thrones co-creator Erin Gibson and was once linked to a TV deal, is also now part of the Revry library. “Given Funny Or Die’s stellar reputation in pushing edgy, young comedy voices, a content partnership with our youth-driven, boundary-pushing brand was a natural fit,” said Revry...

Film schools have long served as launching pads for film and television careers, and now most major universities offer at least some sort of filmmaking courses, even for those not looking to jump into entertainment. A number of schools have begun looking academically at the impacts of new media on culture and the future of entertainment, but so far the more practical nuts and bolts of web series production and distribution have yet to make it onto into the university course lists. In Los Angeles, two new Web TV education programs have launched this month looking to fill that gap —and at a fraction of a film school tuition. NewMedialocity and Web TV Workshop both offer four-week intro courses for creative types looking to learn how to get an original web series project off the ground. Both take the approach of teaching through experienced guest teachers—those brave souls who...
