'Low Winter Sun' premiere: Lennie James plays opposite 'dangerous' Detroit

In 2006, Britain's Channel 4 aired a dark two-part TV movie called "Low Winter Sun" starring Mark Strong ("Zero Dark Thirty," "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") as one of two police officers in Edinburgh, Scotland, who conspire to murder a fellow officer and then discover that nothing is as it seems.

Starting Sunday, Aug. 11, AMC airs a 10-episode American adaptation of "Low Winter Sun" set in in the former industrial titan of Detroit.

Strong reprises his role as Detective Frank Agnew; Lennie James ("Jericho," "The Walking Dead") plays his partner in crime, Detective Joe Geddes. Also starring are James Ransone, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Sprague Grayden, Athena Karkanis, Billy Lush and David Costabile; Erika Alexander has a recurring role.

Ironically, along with Strong playing an American, the British-born James continues his run of American TV roles. Playing a police detective and former Jesuit seminarian who turns to the dark side intrigued him.

"I like his history,

Norman | Review

It is very difficult not to feel sorry for Norman (Dan Byrd). His mother died in a car accident; his father (Richard Jenkins) has opted to forgo further treatment for stomach cancer. Norman is left juggling his life as a teenager in high school with his life as the sole caretaker for his dying father. This is a lot of stress for an emotionally fragile teenager and Norman has decided not to tell anyone at school about his father's rapidly deteriorating health. With no one to confide in (or vent to) about his situation, it is no surprise when Norman snaps at his best friend (Billy Lush); but instead of explaining his situation at home -- which, it seems, Norman finds embarrassing -- Norman exclaims that he is dying of stomach cancer. Whether or not this is a simple slip of the tongue or a purposeful plea for attention and sympathy,
