Grammy Chief Neil Portnow Announces Task Force to Improve ‘Female Advancement’

In the wake of Recording Academy chief Neil Portnow’s ill-worded comments after the Grammy Awards Sunday night — in which he said female artists and executives need to “step up” — and a low number of female nominees and winners, the Academy has announced a new initiative that aims to “overcome the explicit barriers and unconscious biases that impede female advancement in the music community.” While details were scarce at press time — and a letter calling for Portnow’s resignation signed by a group of female music industry senior executives arrived just minutes after the announcement arrived — the organization promised more information in the coming weeks.

Portnow’s letter follows in full:

“To The Music Community…

“After hearing from many friends and colleagues, I understand the hurt that my poor choice of words following last Sunday’s Grammy telecast has caused. I also now realize that it’s about more than just my words. Because those words

'The Voice' Season 13 Winner Is Here -- Find Out Who Won!

The Voice has declared its season 13 winner!

Chloe Kohanski took home the top prize during Tuesday night's live results show finale. The 23-year-old rocker from Tennessee was on Team Blake, and it's no surprise that she looked visibly excited and a tiny bit surprised when she was declared the champ.

She also got a massive hug from her coach, Blake Shelton, as confetti fell. The 41-year-old country crooner -- and the only coach besides Adam Levine to be on the show all 13 seasons -- is now a six-time coaching champ.

One of the music competition's youngest contestants left in the competition, Addison Agen (Team Adam), was the runner-up, while Brooke Simpson (Team Miley) came in third and Red Marlow (Team Blake) came in fourth.

All four put on amazing performances throughout the evening, though Addison getting bluesy with Norah Jones on "Don't Know Why" and Sia performing in a life-sized doll box while belting out "Titanium" with Brooke

The Voice Season 13 Finale Recap: Was the Right Singer Named the Winner?
Remember how, as Season 12 of The Voice drew to a close, there was actual suspense about whether Chris Blue or Lauren Duski would be named the winner? Season 13 hasn’t been like that. For what seems like ever, Chloe Kohanski has dominated in both iTunes sales and our weekly TVLine polls. So Tuesday’s results show was really just a long, long wait to hear her victory announced. Stephanie Laing’s Online Network Pypo Teaming Up with Norwegian Air

Laing: Jazo PR

Pypo, the multi-platform comedy network for women founded by Emmy winner Stephanie Laing, has partnered with Norwegian Air. According to a press release, the airline’s flights will feature exclusive Pypo content as their onboard entertainment beginning March 2018. The deal will also see Pypo “produce a unique event for Norwegian in early 2018” as well as potentially develop Norwegian Air-specific programming.

“We are very happy to have Norwegian as the first airline to dedicate a channel for Pypo on their flights, a channel for their female passengers to laugh and be entertained. As a frequent flyer and a woman, I appreciate an airline catering to my needs,” Laing commented.

“We are truly excited to partner with Stephanie Laing and Pypo, which is a whole new direction for Norwegian. Together we will be able to bring our passengers fresh content,” added Anders Lindström, Norwegian’s Director of Communications, USA. “We’re very pleased to be able to partake in Stephanie’s creative world and having something so unique produced for us.”

Designed for women “who are taking control of the conversation,” Pypo’s website produces original programming and editorial content. Each week the network chooses a topic to delve into via its content and social media. Pypo’s goal is to build “a place for women who are looking for a new narrative; one that speaks directly to who they are, and what they want.”

Rose Byrne (“Bridesmaids”), singer-songwriter Norah Jones, Michaela Watkins (“Casual”), comedian Kathy Griffin, and Mo Gaffney (“Ab Fab”) are among the stars of Pypo programming. Pypo directors include Laing, Susan Jacobson (“The Holding”), Gracie Otto (“The Last Impresario”), and Camille Solari (“A Tale of James Brown”).

Laing is Pypo’s creative director. She has helmed the short “Trouble & the Shadowy Deathblow” and two episodes of “Veep” as well as produced projects like “Vice Principals,” “Divorce,” and “Banshee.” Laing’s feature directorial debut — the Gugu Mbatha-Raw romantic drama “Irreplaceable You” — is currently in post-production.

Stephanie Laing’s Online Network Pypo Teaming Up with Norwegian Air was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
