Horror maestro John Carpenter hasn't directed in a movie in a decade and a half, but he doesn't consider himself retired. While he still feels great love for filmmaking, he's found himself unwilling to get back on a set again if he has to worry about the budget.
Carpenter discussed his career in a new interview with Variety, coinciding with how the famous filmmaker is getting his name added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He confirmed that he still has no active plans at this time to get back into the director's chair, but clarified that he's still willing to do so once again, albeit under the "right circumstances." Perhaps that means the 77-year-old director isn't through just yet, so as long as it's comfortably funded and stress-free.
"Plans? I don’t know," Carpenter said of his filmmaking future. "I would love to direct again, given the right circumstances.

The Friday the 13th horror franchise's future as a film series is uncertain. However, Peacock and A24 have officially ordered a prequel series.
The series has been in the works for a few years, as Peacock ordered the prequel, titled Crystal Lake, in 2022. Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller was originally attached as writer and showrunner, but left the project in May 2024, noting that A24 "decided to go a different way with the material." Now the Friday the 13th prequel series has just received an exciting update as Linda Cardellini has officially joined Crystal Lake as the leading lady, Pamela Voorhees, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
This isn't the first time the No Good Deed actress was tied to the project, so the casting news doesn't come as a shock. The actress was previously rumored to be in talks for the project in February, after rumors that Charlize Theron was also interested in the role of Pamela,...

Despite appearing as a sort of spin-off of Arrow, Arrowverse’s The Flash, which premiered in 2014, became the fictional universe’s most-beloved series. Grant Gustin’s charismatic portrayal of Barry Allen, combined with a great cast and story development, led to The Flash becoming an absolute hit series.
And while the series ended in 2023, and the Arrowverse soon followed, fans are still hopeful that the whole concept might make a comeback in one way or the other. In light of that, some of the original cast members recently discussed a potential revival in the form of a movie.

Grant Gustin revealed his initial reaction to The Flash's "Duet" episode. Fans consider that Supergirl crossover a highlight of the Arrowverse, especially Kara Danvers and Barry Allen's musical number.
The Flash was the best show in The CW's Arrowverse. Fans went through a rollercoaster of emotions across nine seasons of The Flash, especially its crossover episodes. Season 3's "Duet" caught audiences by surprise, however; the plot involved Kara Danvers and Barry Allen trapped in a musical dreamworld. "Duet" was surreal because it broke from the show's grounded narrative, but audiences loved the novelty. Critics praised "Duet" for its lighthearted tone and endearing ensemble, but Grant Gustin had reservations about filming that episode; he told Michael Rosenbaum that "Duet" was an odd turn for the show.

When Zack Snyder set up the Dceu with Man of Steel back in 2012, the question was asked: who would play the rest of the Justice League members alongside Henry Cavill? Ezra Miller was later cast as The Flash, but after controversy, the actor is not expected to reprise the role in the Dcu.
Whilst certain Dceu actors have made clear they expect to be cast in other DC roles, and later would be in Gunn's Dcu, Miller will probably not return. Miller's 2023 movie was not successful, but Grant Gustin found success as the star of the Arrowverse series. Neither are slated to appear as the speedster in the Dcu, though Gustin is open to re-playing the role (per ComicBook).

The CW's The Flash Star John Wesley Shipp has talked about the immediate connection he had with his co-star and fellow Barry Allen actor Grant Gustin. Shipp starred as the titular DC character in 1990's The Flash CBS series before returning to play Gustin's father, Henry Allen, in the Arrowverse.

In response to Cbr's question about how long he has been involved with the character, he stated, "35 years. As many years as Grant Gustin has been alive." Having played the iconic DC character the Flash longer than anyone, Grant Gustin has now given insight into how he kept the Scarlet Speedster fresh for so long. Gustin played the Barry Allen incarnation of the character in The CW's The Flash for nine seasons and also appeared in crossovers and other shows across the Arrowverse.
Gustin told Cbr at Megacon that the show retained its freshness because he took the responsibility of playing the Flash seriously. "It was never an intentional thought about how to keep it fresh," he began. "I'm a very scene-by-scene actor. I wanted to keep it realistic. When a TV show has an unforgettable pilot episode, it instantly pulls viewers in for what's to come next. Whether it be the characters, the high-quality production, or the unexpected twists, people grow curious about where the story will go. However, if the series finale is disappointing and poorly conceived, the ending could leave a noticeable stain on the show's legacy and become a part of television infamy.
Shockingly, these TV shows had the best of both worlds since they started so strongly to pull viewers in, only for the final episode to cause them to question whether the investment was worth it. The Crazies has reached the #2 spot on the free streaming service Tubi, bringing the 15-year-old remake starring Timothy Olyphant relevant once more. The film takes place in the fictional town of Ogden Marsh, Iowa, which becomes infected by a biological agent that turns those infected by it into insane killers. While not a conventional zombie film by any means, it still plays into many tropes associated with the genre and, if anything, is scarier given the more intelligent nature of those infected in this film.
The film is a remake of the 1973 film of the same name, written and directed by zombie icon and legend George Romero. Unfortunately, the original film was considered a box office failure when it was first released in 1973 but has since been reexamined as a cult classic, thus leading to the remake in 2010, with Romero even serving as an executive producer for this updated version.

Many stars got their start in Disney Channel Original Movies and television shows, but some of the former Disney child stars eventually disappeared from Hollywood. Any millennial who grew up watching and loving the Disney Channel will recognize Kay Panabaker. Her breakout role was on The WB's "Summerland," the Aaron Spelling drama about teens being raised by their aunt after the death of their parents.
Although not listed as one of our best Disney Channel shows of the 2000s, she was in season 1 of "Phil of the Future," a quirky sitcom about a teenager from the year 2121 stuck in the year 2004. The Flash is one of the biggest superheroes in DC Comics history, but he has also been one of the biggest superheroes of the past decade. Make no mistake about it, that is down to the success of the TV series, which ran for an incredible nine seasons on The CW. Sure, not all nine of those seasons were among its greatest hits, but its historic run helped make the Scarlet Speedster a household name, with fans instantly falling in love Grant Gustin's performance as the character and sticking with him for the better part of a decade.
But that's not the only mainstream appearance for the character, as Barry Allen's chaotic speedster was also a fixture of the DC Extended Universe movie franchise. This time, he was played by Ezra Miller, who appeared in films such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and his own solo movie.

During the '90s, moviegoers were flooded with serial killer thrillers on a pretty frequent basis. Perhaps an early indication of the public's fascination with true crime, these films enticed viewers with their twisted plots, depraved protagonists, and usually a good guy detective or two, hot on the case. There are classics such as The Silence of the Lambs or Se7en, but the time was also flooded with lesser but still worthy efforts, such as Kiss the Girls and The Bone Collector, to name a few.
By the time the 2000s were ushered in, these films had become less lucrative at the box office and weren't released as frequently, but one snuck in that put a...

The Flash series has been recognized as one of the worst points for DC’s Arrowverse. It was a show that went on for too long, forcing audiences to witness something great get turned into something unrecognizable. While there is no denying that the series was awful by its end, Grant Gustin’s show did manage to do one thing that takes the cinematic universe years to accomplish: it introduced many new characters.

From iconic Flash villains to original characters of their own, fans saw the series bring life to several iconic comic book figures. One that perhaps has the most interesting and bizarre storyline has to be Danielle Panabaker’s Caitlin Snow.
With how many powers she has gotten over the years, fans cannot help but wonder what would happen if she and Barry Allen had a child together.

Many things went wrong in the 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th. The obvious departure in tone and focus from the original film turned many die-hard fans away. However, for horror fans looking for some light entertainment without getting too deep, Friday the 13th is perfect. In the remake, two groups of campers go to Crystal Lake and its surrounding area, and it soon turns into a feast for blood with a surprisingly low survival rate. It's action-packed and thrilling, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
With a star-studded cast, the film features Supernatural actor, Jared Padalecki, in the lead role. He plays Clay Miller, a young man who becomes involved in the mystery of Crystal Lake following his sister's disappearance. The Flash star Danielle Panabaker plays Jenna, who accompanies Clay on his mission to find his missing sister. Many fans feel that Clay is one of the good things about the film,...

The Flash television series was easily a massive fan favorite throughout the time it aired. Even after concluding its run and the Arrowverse as a whole with its ninth and final season, Grant Gustin continues to please fans as the best iteration of Barry Allen to date. But while the majority of the saga was praiseworthy, some parts weren’t, and the cast still regrets it.

While the adaptation was truly remarkable, there have been some storylines that would have better suited the lore had CW not decided to butcher them short. This, in particular, includes the “Flashpoint” event from the comics – something that was, rather perfectly, brought into live-action, but couldn’t stay long enough due to creative decisions as opposed to the cast’s wishes.

In the high-speed world of Grant Gustin’s The Flash series, where meta-humans battle villainous foes and time travel often complicates relationships, love took on a different kind of velocity for audiences. Well, apparently, after Gustin’s Barry Allen ended up with Candice Patton’s Iris West, following their initial association in Season 3, fans expressed their disappointment in the pairing.

When it comes to popular shows like The Flash, every fan’s two cents about characters can snowball into a lively debate! Ah, Grant Gustin’s portrayal of The Flash! It’s being lauded, applauded, and even critiqued. But let’s cut through the fluff and talk about the elephant in the room—criticism surrounding how characters like Caitlin Snow, played by Danielle Panabaker, were developed vis-à-vis the likes of Iris West and Cisco Ramon.

It’s no secret that some fans believe Caitlin’s character arc has taken a few too many detours compared to her teammates, Iris and Cisco, who enjoyed significant growth and even superpowers. While the former often seemed to be running in circles, her journey as a vital member of Team Flash has been anything but mundane.

While remakes are a longstanding tradition in the horror genre, 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ushered in a decade-dominating trend of reinventing classic genre properties for the new millennium. Hoping to replicate the success of Texas Chainsaw, production company Platinum Dunes re-teamed with director Marcus Nispel for a contemporary take on Friday the 13th in 2009.
Like many of the best remakes, Friday the 13th doesn’t recycle the same plot and characters from the 1980 film. The script, penned by Freddy vs. Jason scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, strikes a careful balance between fresh and familiar by blending novel concepts with interpolated elements from the first four Friday the 13th films — from Mrs. Voorhees to sackhead Jason to the iconic hockey mask.

Moms really are superheroes, aren't they? That's at least what a bedazzled Stanley cup said at my last Kindergarten parent night. I may have even seen it on a rear window a time or two next to a stick figure woman wearing a cape standing next to a gaggle of children. But all joking aside, it's true. We go above and beyond the call of duty.
As our children grow, we see them absorb some of our own hobbies; like my obsession of watching fictional superheroes on the big and small screen. I'll never forget the day I sat my four-year-old down to watch Thor (Chris Hemsworth) land in Wakanda and told him, "this is a very important thing. Please be quiet." My second born's first word was "Martha." Needless to say, little Willian and Henry are hooked. As older lads now, they watch it all, from "Zach Snyder's...

Bruce Campbell pitches a potential Sky High reboot as a TV series, revealing he's open to returning as Coach Boomer for a revival. Sky High has an enduring appeal, with many of its cast members continuing to appear in the superhero genre. With the superhero genre still thriving and audiences familiar with superhero tropes, Campbell's Sky High pitch holds promise.
At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Bruce Campbell pitches a potential reboot of his and Kurt Russell's 2005 Disney superhero movie Sky High. Starring Campbell as a superhero-turned-teacher with a destructive voice, the movie followed a young teen with two celebrated hero parents enrolling in a school for potential heroes as he waits for his latent powers to kick in. A success with critics and at the box office, Sky High has attracted a cult following, and many of its stars have returned to the comic book movie subgenre in the following years.

The Friday the 13th universe is expanding, though not in the way we've all been hoping for, at least not yet. No, there aren't any new movies on the way, but Horror, Inc. exclusively revealed their plans to IGN last week to launch the "Jason Universe," which will include immersive experiences, games, merchandise, and other entertainment.

Lovecraft in Re-Animator (listen) and checking out an early adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray (listen), somehow we’re already on our third episode of February. And while the holiday doesn’t line up, we couldn’t pass up a chance to revisit Friday the 13th (2009) for its fifteenth anniversary.
In the Marcus Nispel remake, a group of friends travel to the palatial country house of Trent (Travis Van Winkle) near what was once Camp Crystal Lake. As Trent’s girlfriend Jenna (Danielle Panabaker) bonds with Clay (Jared Padalecki) over the disappearance of his sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti), their friends Chewie (Aaron Yoo), Bree (Julianna Guill), Lawrence (Arlen Escarpeta), Nolan (Ryan Hansen) and Chelsea (Willa Ford) are being picked off one by one by Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears).
Who will survive their encounter with survivalist Jason? Can anything top the...

There’s a solid chance this month’s edition of “Revenge of the Remakes” ends up as one of my favorite column entries. George A. Romero’s The Crazies and Breck Eisner’s The Crazies inspire an exceptional case study about the peaceful coexistence between remakes and originals. Both filmmakers choose unique perspectives when dooming small-town America, even though the early 1970s and dawning 2010s validate eerily similar conspiracy paranoias. Stacking these Trixie-toxin thrillers back-to-back validates why remakes aren’t here to piss all over your safe, swaddling nostalgia blankets. Remakes aren’t the enemy — they’re a golden opportunity.
Romero’s The Crazies could only accomplish so much as a commentary against bureaucratic incompetence given the $270K budget. It benefits from a facelift, much like how Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes reaches its full potential as a bloodthirsty 2000s revamp. That’s not a shot at legends...

Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). In those pages, we got to read the description of a scene where a character would have been killed by iconic masked slasher Jason Voorhees while riding down a zip line. But those weren’t the only pages Shannon and Swift shared from the script last Friday. They also unveiled a couple pages that reveal what happened to Jason’s dad – and you can read them in this embed:

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift were the writers who cracked the Freddy vs. Jason story and pulled that project out of development hell, where it had been trapped for a decade. Six years later, when Warner Bros. teamed up with Paramount and Platinum Dunes for a Friday the 13th reboot, Shannon and Swift were again the writers. (You can hear all about that Friday the 13th in our latest Wtf Happened video.) Since the reboot made over $91 million at the global box office on a budget of $19 million when it was released in February of 2009, it was no surprise when it was announced that it was going to receive a sequel, to be shot in 3-D and released on August 13, 2010. Then the studios couldn’t agree on the money split, so the sequel was shelved… but not before Shannon and Swift had already written the full script. Today, to celebrate Friday the 13th,...
