April 17th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 11, Deep Blue Sea 2

Maybe it’s because this week’s home entertainment releases happen to be falling on the same time as Tax Day, but Tuesday’s Blu-ray and DVD debuts are what my grandfather would refer to as “slim pickins.” In terms of new titles, we’re finally getting the long-awaited sequel to Deep Blue Sea as well as the latest season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on both formats. Cult film fans will want to nab the new Blu-ray for Day of the Reaper, as it’s a very limited edition release, and for those of you looking to fill in a gap in your personal collections, The Skulls arrives in HD on April 17th, too.

Day of the Reaper

Five women on vacation are stalked by a hooded cannibal killer in the town of Sunnyville Florida. Silly antics and H.G. Lewis-style gore follow the survivors in this camp super-8 epic.

Supernatural Recap: Did [Spoiler]'s Surprise Return Ease an Old Death?
Warning: The following contains spoilers for Thursday’s Supernatural.

Another dearly departed fan favorite resurfaced in apocalypse world during Thursday’s Supernatural — and this familiar face brought on some major feelings for Dean.

After landing over there, the hunter and Ketch spot Charlie (guest star Felicia Day), who is a member of the resistance in that reality. Dean knows that no version of Charlie would give up the location of her people — he’s right; “Bite me,” she tells Michael’s men — so he becomes focused on saving her from certain death. Ketch mistakenly assumes that Dean is fixated on

The Magicians Season 3 Episode 7 Review: Poached Eggs

The stakes get bigger and the plot lines thicker during The Magicians Season 3 Episode 7.

There have been quite a few recent episodes that I have felt exemplified the strength(s) of The Magicians. But this latest installment is perhaps one of the best at showing how far this series has come (and is ahead of others shows) in terms of developing a story.

As I’ve said before, juggling a large lead ensemble, multiple worlds and a handful of both tangible and intangible threats is an incredibly hard thing to do. It’s even harder to do cohesively.

Still, even harder to do while keeping us all thoroughly entertained. But in case you missed it, “Poached Eggs” has done it. The episode felt, action-wise, like what a midseason climax should be.

I don’t think there was a single moment when I felt like a plot wasn’t being addressed,

The Magicians Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Do You Like Teeth?

Revelation is at the center of The Magicians Season 3 Episode 6, as a new part of the Fairy Queen’s plans, Julia’s magic and Quentin’s guilt are all unveiled.

There were a lot of moving parts that fell into this larger theme of the reveal this week, and it left me feeling quite satisfied just one episode out of the season’s halfway point. I will say that it felt like there was a lot more than usual happening.

As we saw at the end of The Magicians Season 3 Episode 5, Alice “figured out” how to transfer magic between her and Julia. And as I had hoped, we learn that the easy solution is incredibly dangerous thanks to Penny.

As a result of Alice and Julia almost catching themselves on fire, Julia is finally forced to reveal that she has magic. I thought the Dean’s response was appropriate (albeit

Felicia Day Previews Her ‘Magicians’ Character’s Motivations

Felicia Day Previews Her ‘Magicians’ Character’s Motivations
The Brakebills group is getting some unexpected help on their quest to restore magic to Earth and Fillory.

While sailing to sea on the Muntjac in search of the fourth of seven keys that will bring back magic, Quentin (Jason Ralph) happens upon Poppy, played by Felicia Day, a Brakebills Draconology grad student who’s been stranded in Fillory for months.

“Poppy has the key Quentin’s looking for, which solves his problem, but that brings other problems,” Day tells Variety about her new character on Syfy’s “The Magicians.” “Poppy’s motivations in the episode are not completely altruistic.”

Ahead of her debut on “The Magicians,” Day spoke with Variety about bringing Poppy to life, her run-in with Quentin, and whether she’ll meet Josh (Trevor Einhorn).

How familiar were you “The Magicians” books, or Poppy, before getting cast?

I had actually read the books many years ago when they first came out. The author

The Magicians Sneak Peek: Quentin Comes to Felicia Day's Rescue
On this Wednesday’s The Magicians (Syfy, 9/8c), Quentin rescues guest star Felicia Day from the sea, and it’s a good thing he does — because she might just be instrumental in saving the world.

In TVLine’s exclusive video, Poppy (Day) is pulled from her raft onto a ship by Q, who is surprised to see that she’s sporting a Brakebills jacket. As fans of the Lev Grossman books on which the series is based know, Day’s character is a postgraduate fellow who is doing field work in Fillory as a Dragonologist.

“Poppy’s path intersects with

Digital Media Professor Discusses “Possibilities, Challenges, And Histories” In New Book On Indie Web TV

Since 2009, Aymar Jean Christian has studied, discussed, and contributed to the web series community. Between his writing (which has occasionally appeared on this very blog), his role as a professor at Northwestern University, and his work on his Open TV research project, Christian has established himself as a knowledgable voice in the online video world.

Now, Christian has distilled some of his most relevant knowledge into a literary format. His first book, also titled Open TV, is now available, and it uses lessons from the history of web television to inform the current state of the industry.

Each chapter of Open TV -- which Christian worked on for five years before publishing -- takes on a particular theme, whether it be production, representation, or distribution. Along the way, Christian supports his arguments by citing seminal web series from the past decade, including Felicia Day's The Guild, Issa Rae's

Happy!'s Christopher Meloni and Patrick Fischler Dish and Tell About That Premiere Scene and More

Happy!'s Christopher Meloni and Patrick Fischler Dish and Tell About That Premiere Scene and More
“Can I curse?” asks Christopher Meloni. Although he and Happy! co-star Patrick Fischler are discussing their far-far-out new Syfy series on the TVLine Podcast, he needs a four-letter word to describe his reaction to the pilot script. Which was? “What the f— did I just read?”

We don’t blame him. In the outrageous dramedy, Meloni is Nick Sax, a hitman whose sidekick is the titular unicorn; Fischler, Sax’s maniacal nemesis Smoothie, who — if you’ve seen the eye-popping trailer, you know — intends to remove Sax’s manhood in exceedingly painful fashion. When they shot that massive confrontation for the premiere (Wednesday,

Happy! Review: Syfy's Pitch-Black Shoot-'Em-Up Is a Wild Holiday Ride

Happy! Review: Syfy's Pitch-Black Shoot-'Em-Up Is a Wild Holiday Ride
If your idea of Christmas cheer is a drunk hit man coughing up blood in a dive-bar bathroom to the sounds of “Jingle Bells”… well, Syfy has a holiday treat for you.

To be clear, the network’s wild new graphic-novel adaptation Happy! — debuting this Wednesday at 10/9c — is most definitely not for everyone. It’s an adrenaline-charged roller coaster of sex, drugs and graphic violence, with a wickedly cynical sense of humor to boot. It’s relentlessly in-your-face, and the faint of heart (or of stomach) need not apply. But it’s also one hell of a ride, with gleefully over-the-top action sequences…

After scoring a huge success earlier this year with its Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival, Netflix has now renewed the comedy series for a twelfth season, with creator Joel Hodgson announcing the news in a special video alongside stars Jonah Ray and Felicia Day. Check it out here…

Hodgson also followed the video with a special message to the show’s Kickstarter backers, who crowdfunded the show’s return to the tune of a record $5.7 million:

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return has officially been renewed for another season on Netflix in the ‘not too distant future!’ I wish I had more details to share, but so far, that’s literally everything we’re able to announce – and, of course, I’ll tell you more as soon as I can. But for today, I hope you’ll be as happy as I am to know that our Kickstarter worked: thanks to you,

For those of you who are fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Netflix, you'll be happy to hear that it has been renewed for a new season! I absolutely love this show I couldn't be more excited that we will be getting a new season!

The big announcement was revealed at the conclusion of the annual Thanksgiving marathon of the show that runs on YouTube. This will be the second season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on the streaming network, but it will be the twelfth season of the show overall.

I imagine the original team will all be back. That cast includes Jonah Ray, Hampton Yount, and Baron Vaughn back in the theater as they take part in Kinga Forrester’s (Felicia Day) and Son of TV’s Frank’s (Patton Oswalt) evil experiments of watching hilariously bad B movies. Obviously, series creator Joel Hodgson will be back

MST3K season 12 confirmed by Netflix

Gavin Jasper Kirsten Howard Nov 27, 2017

MST3K season 12 on Netflix is a go! Expect more Mystery Science Theater 3000 on your screens...eventually.

Ever since Mystery Science Theater 3000 returned for its 11th season, fans have been wondering about its future. In the past year, the cast and crew have done a live tour across the Us and announced a six-issue Dark Horse comic miniseries, but they’ve been tight-lipped about another season. With MST3K season 11 being built on Kickstarter cash and Netflix’s supposed money issues, would we even see MST3K season 12?

Yesterday, series creator Joel Hodgson hosted the annual Turkey Day Marathon stateside, along with new cast members Jonah Ray and Felicia Day. After spending half the day showing off classic episodes and clips of the latest season (including a promotional clip of Jonah and the bots watching several minutes of the first episode of Stranger Things), there still
