‘Deception’ Canceled After One Season On ABC

  • Deadline
ABC has opted not to renew new midseason drama Deception for a second season.

Written by Chuck alum Chris Fedak, Deception premiered March 11 and easily won its Sunday 10 Pm slot thanks to a lead-in from the debut of American Idol on ABC. Deception‘s bow drew a 1.3 in 18-49 and 6.1 million total viewers — the network’s best scripted premiere numbers in the hour since Quantico in September 2015.

It was a respectable start for a drama in the current ratings environment, though not a breakout. By April 23, though, the series had dropped to its lowest demo rating: a 0.6, with 3.38 million viewers. The series has since recovered a bit, drawing a 0.7-0.8 for its subsequent airings, but that wasn’t enough. In most current ratings, Deception’s Season 1 average is 1.2.

Jack Cutmore-Scott stars as superstar magician Cameron Black in the series, from Warner Bros TV and Berlanti TV. When his career is ruined by scandal,

NBC Picks Up Drama ‘Manifest’ To Series, Renews ‘Blindspot’ For Season 4

  • Deadline
Given the strong emotional reaction everyone at NBC had to Manifest, some had been wondering what was taking so long for the pilot to be picked up to series. The missing plane mystery thriller drama comes from an outside studio, Warner Bros. TV, and as we noted yesterday, along with the buzzy pilot, the studio also had bubble sophomore drama series Blindspot at the network, making for some tricky deal-making.

Negotiations have completed successfully, with Manifest, from Jeff Rake and Robert Zemeckis, ordered to series and Blindspot renewed for a fourth season. While not a strong linear performer, Blindspot has been remarkably consistent and has an established fan base. Additionally, at last year’s renewal, NBC reportedly negotiated a license fee reduction, so I’d heard the series, starring Sullivan Stapleton and Jaimie Alexander, has been profitable for the network. And it certainly has been very profitable for the studio

Warning: The following Q&A contains major spoilers from Blindspot‘s Season 3 fall finale. Proceed with caution.

Let’s hope Kurt Weller knows a good couples therapist in New York. If the final minutes of Blindspot‘s fall finale were any indication, he and Jane will need some serious counseling in 2018.

After fearing for weeks that Roman would reveal to Jane what happened in Berlin, Weller decided he couldn’t live with the secret anymore and broke the news to Jane himself: Not only did he meet Jane’s long-lost daughter while he was in Germany… but he killed her.

So what does this mean for the couple (and the show) moving forward?

Et spoke with creator Martin Gero about what Weller’s surprising confession means, how this upends Jane and Weller’s relationship in the long run and

Blindspot Ep Sheds Light on That Jane Shocker: 'It's a Huge Part' of Season 3
