Uri Music Review

  • Bollyspice
18th September 2016 is a date to be remembered as four heavily armed militants laid down a bloody attack upon Kashmiri border security forces in the town of Uri. Based on those events is the film of the retaliation, Uri: The Surgical Strike. Vicky Khausal leads a unit to hit those suspected of having committed this attack with a surgical strike approach, attacking the heart of the suspected groups. There are a lot of guns and noise, there are a lot of explosions and so the music can either be an assistant to this noise or it can play as a breaker in between scenes to give the audience a chance to calm down after a particularly gory moment. Shashwat Sachdev of last years Veere di Wedding is on hand to give a short but punchy album.

Challa (Main Lad Jaana) is a known, traditional cry to drive Sikh troops into

Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi Music Review

  • Bollyspice
2016’s Happy Bhag Jayegi was a very successful romantic comedy about Harpreet Kaur (played by Diana Penty) who ran away from her wedding with Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Shergill) to find herself in Lahore taken in by Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol). In 2018 Happy is back, but this time with Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role in Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. Set in China this time, there’s bound to be plenty of machismo, the girl coming out on top, some great one-liners and a strong Punjabi vibe. Sohail Sen has been asked to pen the score for this album, so it will be interesting to see how musically he brings Punjab to China.

Where else to begin this soundtrack but with some classic bhangra in Swag Saha Nahi Jaye. Shadab Faridi, Neha Bhasin and Shivangi Bhayana are all asked to bring people onto the floor with this bhangra set to

Gold Music Review

“The dream that united our nation” is the tagline to the new film being released this Independence Day based on the true events of India’s first hockey team. Gold follows Akshay Kumar as he leads India’s own first hockey team to their first gold medal in 1948. A powerful story about great players who stood up first under the banner of British Raj and then successfully took the gold medal at the Olympics for the first time as the Indian team. Under the production banner of Farhan Akhtar, Excel Entertainment, this inspiring movie will need not only an inspiring soundtrack but also as a period movie, stick to the sights and sounds of the age. As Akshay’s character is also Bengali, there will need to be a certain flavour of Kolkata added to the mix. Thus, Sachin Jigar will headline with additional work by Arko Pravo Mukherjee and

Sanya Malhotra as Babita Phogat Suhani Bhatnagar as young Babita

Music by: Pritam

Authentic. That was the first thought that entered my mind when I left the theater. The raw portrayal of the father-daughter dynamic as well as the accurate depiction of wrestling as a professional sport for women really sealed the purity of the film for me.

Based on the true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir) and his 2 daughters, Geeta (Fatima) and Babita (Sanya), we follow the young women through their struggles of becoming the Professional Wrestlers they are today. Sprinkled with humor and inspiration, this may just be the must-go movie of the year.

The premise of the film begins with Mahavir Singh, former National champion in wrestling,

Baloch Pakistani sufi singers for Rakeysh Mehras Mirzya

Baloch Pakistani sufi singers for Rakeysh Mehras Mirzya
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Mirzya is a full-blown musical with composer Shankar Mahadevan along with his partners Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendosa, pulling out all stops to make the legendary love tale of Mirza and Sahibaan as epic in proportion as possible. The title song alone involved the blended talents of Sufi singers from India, Pakistan and Balochistan. While Daler Mehndi and the upcoming young Sufi singers The Nooran sisters, Jyoti and Sultan from Jalandhar comprise the Indian contingent of singers for the title track, from Pakistan came the legendary Sufi singer Sain Zahoor who sings predominantly at religious shrines. That isn't all. The internationally celebrated Balochi folk singer Akhtar Chanal Zahri also flew in to pitch in for the title song giving a kind of epic heft to Gulzar's lyrics. Quite a full house, one must say. Says Shankar Mahadevan, "Sain Zahoor is an interesting character! His look itself is so amazing.

Shorgul, a political drama inspired by sensitive real-time incidents that shook the foundation of democracy, set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh launched its trailer. A 24 Fps Films Production, the film is based on Intolerance and aspires to make audiences contemplate on where humanity stands amidst the noise of religious, social, political and economic prejudice.

The film will touch upon grave subjects that have transpired in the recent past such as Muzzafarnagar, Godhra, Babri Masjid riots apart from making references to bureaucratic misdoings, mind games and controversial master strokes of some high profile dignitaries.
