WWE’s ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’ Will Be Interrupted for Muslim Prayer

WWE rings the start bell on its “Greatest Royal Rumble” pay-per-view from Saudi Arabia today, with a 50-man battle royal anchoring the show. Do to the geographical location and the sheer length of the titular contest, the event will be interrupted by an intermission for Muslim prayer, the pro wrestling organization told TheWrap.

“The break will not impact the television viewing audience,” a WWE spokesman said. “We are working with the Gsa and expect it to be approximately 15 minutes.”

The Gsa or General Sports Authority is the government body responsible for sport in Saudi Arabia.

WWE SmackDown 04/24/18 – The Good and The Bad

Liam Hoofe rounds up this week’s edition of SmackDown Live…

The Good

Miz TV with Big Cass

The Miz opened this week’s SmackDown by stating that wherever he is, is the company’s A show, and in fairness, he has proven that claim on several occasions. His promo work on Daniel Bryan during last night’s show was excellent, and the company holding off on a confrontation between the two is a smart move. There is big money to be made the first time these two men meet.

Instead, Bryan will be squaring off with Big Cass at Backlash, who was out to explain his attack on Bryan last week on this week’s show. Cass said that he also returned from injury and that no-one seemed to care, he ripped into Bryan and the Yes Movement and really got himself over as a heel. Cass was great here,

WWE SmackDown Review 04/17/18 – The Good, The Bad and The Shake-Up

Liam Hoofe breaks down this week’s edition of SmackDown…

The Good

Heel Shinsuke and the Main Event

Who would have thought that a heel Shinsuke Nakamura was just what we needed on Tuesday nights? Shinsuke has been excellent as a heel so far, and his low-blow on Aj during this week’s main event, and his subsequent claim that he doesn’t speak English were excellent. Aj Styles, Daniel Bryan, and Shinsuke Nakamura are an excellent main event trio, chuck Samoa Joe into that mix and you have something really quite special.

The main event match itself was also good fun, with Aj and Bryan taking on Aiden English and Rusev. With the SmackDown mid-card well and truly shaken, Rusev may be able to ascend up the roster a little easier in the new landscape.Big Cass’ arrival at the end of the bout sets up a potential feud between him and Bryan,

WWE SmackDown 4/3/18 – The Good, The Bad and The Pointless

Liam Hoofe rounds up this week’s episode of SmackDown…

The Good

Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon

I have been very vocal over the last few months about Shane McMahon on WWE television. His ongoing feud with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has, for the most part, been pretty terrible. The feud, however, has been saved over the last few weeks thanks to some excellent segments, and the incredible return of Daniel Bryan.

So, after months of struggling against each other for power, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon simply hugged out their differences. In any other circumstance, this would have been a bit of a silly way to draw a line under things, but Daniel is so over that the crowd ate it up and the whole segment just worked. Having Daniel apologise to Shane was a bit lame, but Shane then returned the favour, at least making sense of some things.

WWE Smackdown 2/20/2018 – The Good, The Bad and The Pointless

Liam Hoofe with his take on this week’s SmackDown Live…

The Good

Fatal Five Way One-on-Ones

As with any multi-man PPV match in the WWE, the company will spend the weeks leading up to the match giving us every possible one on one match-up they can get out of the situation. Last week, we saw Dolph Ziggler Vs Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens Vs Baron Corbin, and this week we got Kevin Owens Vs Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin Vs Aj Styles. While this formula feels tired, and takes the shine off the five men stepping in the ring together at the PPV itself, the matches this week were, as they were last week, fairly decent outings.

Ziggler and Owens put on the night’s best match to kick things off. The match was good, up until the finish, which saw Zayn run down to the ring and allow

WWE SmackDown 2/13/18 – The Good, The Bad, and The Pointless

Liam Hoofe takes a look back at this week’s SmackDown Live…

The Good

The Qualification Matches

This week’s SmackDown opened with the previously announced match between Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler. The match never got started, however, because Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens attacked Corbin backstage, before coming to the ring to beat down Ziggler. This set up two matches for the night, one between Owens and Corbin and another between Zayn and Ziggler.

Both of these matches, especially the match between Zayn and Ziggler, which went on last, were great. For once, matches involving Zayn and Owens didn’t feature any sort of shenanigans and it was a nice reminder that they are two of the most talented performers on SmackDown and that they deserve better than this ongoing mess which is dominating Tuesday nights. Zayn and Ziggler stole the show in the night’s main event

WWE SmackDown Review 30.1.18 – New Us Title Number 1 Contender, Tension Between Sami and Kevin?, Money in the Bank Cash In Attempt, Mixed Match Challenge Thoughts

Liam Hoofe reviews this week’s SmackDown Live…

This week’s SmackDown kicked off with Royal Rumble winner, Shinsuke Nakamura in the middle of the ring. Nakamura was out to address his victory and his upcoming WrestleMania match with Aj Styles. Nakamura cut a promo where he named superstars in the rumble and talked about how he hit them with his knee, then he mentioned Aj Styles and said he was going to do the same to him at WrestleMania. He was then interrupted by Sami and Kevin, who, of course, were annoyed over the decision at the Royal Rumble.

They talk about how Shane McMahon screwed them, and how they should be champion. They tell Naks that he should be facing them at WrestleMania and he calls them losers. Just as they go to attack him, Aj Styles makes his way to the ring. He talks about how his

WWE Royal Rumble 2018 Review

Liam Hoofe reviews the 2018 Royal Rumble…

After weeks of build, the Royal Rumble is finally here. The event is arguably the most exciting on the WWE calendar and after several years of disappointment, fans had high hopes heading into this year’s event, which was headlined by the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble. Did it deliver? Let’s take a look at each of the matches and rate them from 1 to 5.

Aj Styles Defeated Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens

Wow, the WWE title match opening the show. While things started off quite slowly here the match really got going in the final third and there were some nice spots. Sami and Owens played their roles well here and the match was an enjoyable opener. The screwy finish gives Sami and Owens plenty to complain about on this week’s SmackDown, and Aj getting the clean victory makes him look strong.

WWE Royal Rumble 2018 Predictions

Liam Hoofe looks into his crystal ball and predicts the outcomes of this Sunday’s Royal Rumble event…

January is a cold, long, hard depressing month for most, but for wrestling fans, it is one of the most exciting months of the year. The WWE’s annual Royal Rumble match is the company’s most exciting and unpredictable event and this Sunday’s show brings us not one but two Royal Rumbles, with the first ever, 30-women Royal Rumble match taking place at the event.

This year’s Royal Rumble is honestly, very difficult to predict. The possibility of a Daniel Bryan return still looms large, the debut of several new talents looks likely and the long-awaited arrival of Ronda Rousey could happen this Sunday, all of which would make this one of the most exciting Royal Rumble events in the history of the PPV.

The company has, however, let

Wrestling Daily News Roundup – Tag Team Champion Arrested for DUI, New Us Champion Crowned, WWE Confirms Signings of Three Superstars

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Tag Team Champion Arrested for DUI

Pro Wrestling Sheet has confirmed that current Smackdown Live Tag Team Champion Jey Uso, real name, Joshua Fatu, was arrested this past weekend in Texas for reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Uso was pulled over and arrested around 1 am on Sunday morning and was released later the following day.

Just what this means for the current tag champ is currently unknown, as he did appear on last night’s edition of Smackdown Live, where he and his brother, Jimmy, were attacked during a backstage interview by their Royal Rumble opponents, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin.

New Us Champion Crowned on Smackdown

Bobby Roode defeated Jinder Mahal on last night’s edition of Smackdown Live to become the new United States champion. The title has been vacant since Dolph Ziggler left it in

WWE SmackDown Review 16.1.18 – New United States Champion Crowned, Royal Rumble Hype, Mixed Match Challenge Thoughts

Liam Hoofe reviews this week’s edition of SmackDown Live…

This week’s SmackDown began in a way that many modern wrestling shows don’t – with an actual wrestling match. Xavier Woods and The New Day cut a brief promo before Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers made their way to the ring for the Us Title Semi-Final match between Woods and Mahal. The two competitors, especially Woods, have done a great job at hyping this match over the last week or so, with Woods attacking Mahal across all social media platforms. It’s easy to forget that the three New Day members all are talented as single performers sometimes. As matches go, though, this one didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Jinder was booked to dominate the majority of the bout and his slow, methodical wrestling approach is just not that entertaining. Mahal has come a long

WWE SmackDown Live Review 9/1/18 – Tag Team Title Match Made for The Royal Rumble, Handicap Tag Match Main Event, More Tension Between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan

Liam Hoofe reviews this week’s episode of SmackDown Live…

This week’s SmackDown Live kicked off, for once, with WWE Champion Aj Styles in the ring. Aj was being interviewed by Renee Young about his upcoming handicap match at the Royal Rumble against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. Aj admits that it will be difficult for him to win but he will the two hard and fast and he will prove once and for once that this is the house Aj Styles built. Halfway through his phrase, Owens’ music hits and Owens and Zayn make their way to the ring. They talk about becoming the first ever co WWE champions, they head to the ring ready for a confrontation but, nope! out comes Shane McMahon to a collective sigh from everyone watching at home.

Shane cuts his usual rubbish and announces that Owens and Zayn will have to compete

WWE SmackDown 19/12/17 Review: Clash of Champions Fall-Out, Dolph Ziggler’s Us Title Celebration, Six-Man Main Event

Liam Hoofe reviews this week’s edition of SmackDown…

Following the events of Clash of Champions, SmackDown Live kicks off this week with Daniel Bryan out to open the show. Bryan hypes up the Women’s Royal Rumble and then announces that Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura and Aj Styles will take on the team of Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in tonight’s main event.

Shane comes out during Bryan’s promo to address what happened on Sunday night. Shane explains that after Bryan had fallen on him and broken the count on Sami, Shane’s emotions took control for a moment and when Sami rolled up Orton and he couldn’t bring himself to count the three. Bryan tells Shane that he needs to stop his emotions getting the better off him and that he made the fast count to save Shane from himself. He says that

WWE Clash of Champions Review

Liam Hoofe reviews WWE Clash of Champions…

WWE finished their calendar year off last night with Smackdown’s Clash of Champions. The company has had a reasonable year from a PPV standpoint but the Blue Brand has struggled for the latter half of the year, mostly because of Jinder Mahal’s title reign. Did they manage to close out the year in style with Clash of Champions? Let’s take a look back at each match and see.

Dolph Ziggler Defeated Bobby Roode and Baron Corbin To Win the United States Championship

What an opening bout this was! While hype for Clash of Champions has not exactly been through the roof, if this is the type of match-up we can expect throughout the night then things should be okay. Ziggler picking up the victory was a massive surprise and the finishing moments were very well executed. Roode and Corbin still

Wrestling Daily News Roundup – Two Impact Stars Headed to WWE?, The Miz Return Update, WWE Holds Annual Tribute to the Troops

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Two Impact Stars Headed to WWE?

When you take a look back at superstars that never got the chance to achieve their full potential in the WWE, two names often come in the discussion – Ethan Cartner III and Lashley. The two men, both former WWE employees, have gone on to become two of the biggest stars in Impact Wrestling and many fans have long hoped that they would get another chance to prove themselves in the WWE.

Well, it looks as though we may not have to wait for this much longer. Dave Meltzer, in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, indicated that the duo could well be heading back to their former home when their contracts expire with Impact Wrestling. While it is not clear exactly when that is, it looks as though it may be in the coming months.

WWE Clash of Champions Predictions

Liam Hoofe with his predictions for this Sunday’s WWE Clash of Champions Event…

WWE will give us its final pay-per-view event of the year this Sunday night when WWE SmackDown presents ‘Clash of Champions.’ The event, an old WCW favourite, will see every one of SmackDown’s titles defended and will be a big indication of who will be heading into WrestleMania season with gold around their waist. The company has been fairly consistent with their events this year so can Clash of Champions see out 2017 quite nicely? Let’s take a look at each match and predict who is walking away victorious Sunday night.

Pre-Show: Zack Ryder Vs Mojo Rawley

Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley have done very little to build this feud since the duo broke up on SmackDown a few weeks back. With it being the only match on the pre-show, though, it will likely get

Wrestling Daily News Roundup – Several Changes to Clash of Champions Card, Chris Jericho Definitely Not at Wrestlemania, Triple H Vs Roman Reigns

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Several Changes to Clash of Champions

Last night’s edition of WWE Smackdown saw several changes made to the pre-existing matches at Clash of Champions, and one new match added to the card. Here is the updated card for the event:

Aj Styles Vs Jinder Mahal (WWE Title)

Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura Vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn (Shane McMahon as Guest Ref, If Owens and Zayn lose, they are fired from the WWE) The New Day Vs The Usos Vs Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin Vs Rusev and Aiden English (Tag Titles) Charlotte Vs Natalya (Lumberjack Match) (Smackdown’s Women’s Title) Dolph Ziggler Vs Bobby Roode Vs Baron Corbin (Us Title)

The most notable addition to the card is the tag match involving Owens, Zayn, Orton and Shinsuke. As I wrote in my Smackdown review, I suspect

Wrestling Daily News Roundup – Three Matches Announced for Clash of Champions, Paige Set for In-Ring Return, Nxt To Find a New Home

Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…

Three Matches Announced for WWE Clash of Champions

This weekend, via the official WWE YouTube channel, the company revealed the following three matches will be taking place at WWE Clash of Champions on December 17th:

The New Day Vs The Usos Vs Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin

Charlotte Flair Vs Natalya

Baron Corbin Vs Dolph Ziggler Vs Bobby Roode

Also taking place on the card is a match for the WWE title between Jinder Mahal and Aj Styles. It would appear that the company has made several changes from what were the initial plans for the event. The addition of Dolph Ziggler is a random choice, though it could have been done to protect Roode, with Ziggler likely taking the pinfall loss and holding the Roode/Corbin feud for a little longer.

The New Day will no doubt add even
