Man Gets Weaponized in Upgrade [Trailer]

The set-up for Leigh Whannell's sophomore feature is a well warn trope: man's wife is killed and man is left for dead. Except he's not dead, he's quadriplegic. When given the opportunity to avenge his wife, he volunteers for a program where a nanobot is surgically implanted into his body, giving him not only full movement but essentially making him superhuman.

This is Upgrade, the latest from Whannell who previously directed Insidious: Chapter 3.

Produced by Blum House, Upgrade stars Logan Marshall-Green as Grey, the man who volunteers to have a computer implanted into his body, making him Robocop-lite.

It's easy to guess that on top of avenging his wife, Grey is going to run into some problems with the computer and/or the people that implan

Upgrade Trailer Turns a Paralyzed Man Into a Hyper Violent Revenge Machine

Blumhouse has released the first trailer for their upcoming sci-fi/horror flick Upgrade. The movie stars Logan Marshall-Green in the lead role, who many in the more general moviegoing public became familiar with last summer in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This gives him a chance to lead a movie on his own, but this is certainly a departure from the Marvel-style comic book movie. Upgrade more or less turns him into a superhero, but an ultra-violent one in what looks to be one of the more inventive genre movies coming our way in 2018.

The trailer for Upgrade is filled with eyebrow-raising shots and action, which all come as a result of the interesting premise. Basically, a guy who can't walk is implanted with an experimental chip that can take over his body and turn him into Jason Bourne. Only this movie is hardcore R-rated, so there's a lot more blood and violence.

First Upgrade Trailer Teases What May Be One Of 2018’s Most Stylish Action Flicks

By now, there shouldn’t be a horror fan reading this who isn’t familiar with the work of Leigh Whannell. Having previously penned films such as Saw, Insidious and Dead Silence, the screenwriter/actor has proven himself to be quite the asset for studios looking for bold new intellectual properties.

So, as was the case with Insidious: Chapter 3, he’s writing and directing the upcoming science fiction/action flick Upgrade, which I must admit is taking me by surprise. As you can imagine, I naturally thought this to be a horror movie upon first hearing that Whannell was behind it, but I’m pleasantly pleased that the footage I’ve thus far seen has defied my expectations.

In short, the picture “centers on Grey Trace, a technophobe in a utopian near-future when computers control nearly everything – from cars to crime-surveillance – who’s paralyzed in a freak mugging. But when
