Now on Blu-ray: Lifechanger Is One Of The Year's Biggest Indie Genre Surprises

Canadian filmmaker Justin McConnell's latest feature, Lifechanger, is a fascinating and engaging piece of science fiction/horror that succeeds far beyond its limited means in delivering an unusual experience for film fans looking for some brains with their body horror. The story of a being named Drew who believes he can live forever by draining the life from host after host, taking the lifeforce from unwitting victims, is an examination of our most base drive for survival. We begin with Drew having just taken over the body of a young woman, leaving her corporeal self a dried up husk after "he" takes her body, memories, and senses for his own, fending off the eventual rot that sets in when he stays in the same body for...

FrightFest Presents Review – Lifechanger (2018)

Lifechanger, 2018.

Directed by Justin McConnell.

Starring Jack Foley, Lora Burke, Elitsa Bako, Steve Kasan, Rachel VanDuzer and Bill Oberst Jr.

Synopsis:

A shape-shifter moves from body to body in order to get closer to his former love.

Romance can be found in the most unlikely of places, and there are none more unlikely than the setting of a horror movie. From the Romeo & Juliet-inspired splatter of Return of the Living Dead 3 to the more surreal tragedy of Spring there are numerous examples of horror movies acting as a backdrop to tell a story that pulls on the heartstrings more than the average slasher movie ever could.

Lifechanger, however, has a lot more going on than romance and horror as there are many allegories and metaphors bubbling away under the surface, not least a meditation on the nature of humanity, love and guilt. That may sound a little heavy for what is,

Murderous Shapeshifter on the Lose in Lifechanger [Trailer]

The concept behind writer/director Justin McConnell's latest horror movie is fantastic: a guy with the ability to shapeshift by killing his victims, goes on a murderous spree in an attempt to rekindle a relationship with the woman he loves.

It seems that McConnell's Lifechanger does offer up a reason as to why the shapeshifter needs to change bodies so many times but it seems what's most notable of the movie is that at just shy of 90 minutes long, it moves quickly; "Even the gore is efficient."

Lifechanger stars Elitsa Bako, Lora Burke, Jack Foley, Sam James White, Steve Kasan, Bill Oberst Jr. and Rachel Vanduzer.

  • DailyDead
A deadly shapeshifter takes what it means to be human away from his victims in the new movie Lifechanger, and with the new horror thriller coming out soon in the Us from Uncork'd Entertainment and in Canada from Raven Banner, Daily Dead caught up with writer/director Justin McConnell for our latest Q&A feature to discuss the movie's inception in 2014, the cinematic influences pulsating in the movie's DNA, and the massive practical effects scene that took the combined efforts of 10 people to pull off.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, and congratulations on your latest film, Lifechanger. When and how did you originally come up with the idea for this movie?

Justin McConnell: In 2014 I was getting frustrated with not being able to get a couple of larger films—The Eternal and Tripped—made. So I started brainstorming an idea that could be done on a very limited budget.

Movie Review – Lifechanger (2018)

Lifechanger, 2018.

Directed by Justin McConnell.

Starring Lora Burke, Jack Foley, Rachel Vanduzer, Steve Kasan, Elitsa Bako, Sam White, Bill Oberst Jr.

Synopsis:

A shapeshifter sets about reconnecting with the woman he loves. With only a limited time in each new body, however, the road to reconciliation is one littered with murder and mayhem.

There’s something pleasantly satisfying about a film that centres around a shapeshifter starting off as one thing and ending as something different altogether. With Lifechanger – a Canadian character-horror written and directed by Justin McConnell – this is most certainly the case. But, given the film’s title has the word ‘change’ in it, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise.

Premiering at the 2018 Fantasia International Film Festival – an annual genre film festival based out of Montreal – Lifechanger wastes very little of its economical 80-minute run time. The opening sequence – a naked woman awaking next to a

Lora Burke & Jack Foley in New Trailer for Horror Thriller 'Lifechanger'

"In the quiet moments, my thoughts always turn to her." Uncork'd Entertainment has debuted a new trailer for an intriguing horror thriller titled Lifechanger, from Canadian filmmaker Justin McConnell. The film premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival earlier this year, and it's described as a horror thriller about a "murderous shapeshifter [who] sets out on a blood-soaked mission to make things right with the woman he loves." Though a different description says that he's "not so much a shapeshifter as a body thief", moving from body to body until it decomposes too much. The film stars Lora Burke, Jack Foley, Elitsa Bako, Rachel VanDuzer, Steve Kasan, Sam White, Peter Higginson, and Bill Oberst Jr. as the voice of Drew. This looks crazy gnarly, especially all the body switches and gore. Here's the new red band trailer (+ poster) for Justin McConnell's Lifechanger, direct from YouTube: And here's the original first trailer for Justin McConnell's Lifechanger,
