Sid Acharya is an Australian composer who is known for his internationally acclaimed
studio albums and music for film. His style is most recognizable by use of electronic moving elements with
deep and melancholic orchestral textures, mostly within the genre of contemporary classical music.
His music has been used for a variety of purposes with NASA, ABC, and trailer label Methodic Music, in addition to placements in film and documentaries.
His philosophy behind his compositions is to provide a place for listeners to go to, to reflect and think about their lives - a form of therapy which Sid believes to be invaluable.
Sid was raised in England for some time, and mainly in Aberdeen, Scotland for the first 10 years of his life, until moving to Newcastle Australia with his family in 2009 where he attended Newcastle Grammar School and graduated in 2016. His exposure to a variety of cultures and locations around the world, particularly his youth in the shire of the Scottish Highlands was a key force in shaping his musical style. His exposure to soundtrack-driven film by composers such as Hans Zimmer, James Horner and Howard Shore in his youth was a driving force of his passion and love of film score. Although Sid attempted formal piano lessons for some time, he had no interest in playing pieces written by other composers and wished to write his own music. Contributing to this, Sid struggled to play by traditional method of sight reading as he cannot read sheet music and would play by ear instead. Without formal musical training, Sid began experimenting with musical software and looping programs in his teenage years, which formed the basis of his knowledge for his introduction to orchestral music in 2017. As he began learning about orchestral composition through self-teaching and trial and error, he developed a true passion for composing contemporary classical music and film soundtracks and began scoring to film during his studies at The University of Newcastle of film production. As he worked on soundtracks for his fellow student's films, he began to expand his ability and revise his sound.
In 2018, Sid released his first soundtrack, for a university-funded documentary of Tomaree National Park, NSW. He composed the soundtrack using free software, limited by the budget available.
The same year, he released his first narrative-driven album, An Ocean of Stars, inspired by his love of space and astronomy and portrayed emotions of loneliness and vastness.
His next symphonic piece, For Her Heart, released in 2019 expanded Sid's audience as it quickly raised his listening numbers and placements, reaching hundreds of thousands of streams across platforms.
Later in 2019, Sid further developed his skill and craft with the release of EP Hymns of the Highlands, which further grew his audience.
In 2019, Sid began freelancing as a composer, and was soon picked up by a talent scout in Los Angeles, with whom he worked with to secure 7 full length albums of commercial production music with Los Angeles based trailer music label, Methodic Music.
Following his steadily growing success in 2019, Sid spent most of 2020 working on his most acclaimed album to-date, Stories from the Sky, which was released the same year in 2020, and has since received several millions of streams across platforms.
In 2020, Sid's music was used in an exclusive NASA event, where - for the first time in history, the USAREC oath was delivered to new recruits from outer space, by astronaut Andrew Morgan aboard the International Space Station.
Sid continues to release studio albums and also composes original soundtrack for film.
