David Fincher’s HBO Comedy Series Stopped Midway through Production

HBO and David Fincher seemed like they had put together a strong partnership. The network had picked up his dramas Utopia (with Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn) and the 1950s L.A. noir Shakedown (with L.A. Confidential author James Ellroy) along with the half-hour comedy series Videosyncrazy (formerly known as “Living on Video”), which took place in the burgeoning music video industry of the 1980s. Videosyncrazy revolves around Robby (Charlie Rowe), a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed college dropout who drives to Hollywood to become a big-league director and lands his first job as a production assistant at a company that produces music videos. The show also stars Jason Flemyng, Kerry Condon, Elizabeth Lail, Corbin Bernsen, Paz Vega, and Sam Page. THR adds that the show is supposed to be along the lines of Entourage and follows “directors, record executives and crew members, many of them who dabble in drugs.” [caption id="attachment_363067" align="alignright" width="350"] Image via Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros./caption]

In the wake of the pirated leak of an advanced DVD screener of the first four episodes of HBO's "Game of Thrones" this season, the cable network has announced a change to its policy.

HBO has confirmed that it is shifting to a streaming-only policy for advance reviews of its programming, ending years of mailed out DVDs to critics and journalists. The shift takes affect as of Tuesday with the next batch of "Veep" episodes to be made available through HBO’s secure streaming site. [Source: Variety]

'House of Cards' Season 2 episode 3: Doormats and matadors, laws and sausages

Warning: Do not keep reading if you haven't watched the first three episodes of "House of Cards" Season 2 yet. On deck for Tuesday (Feb. 18), "Chapter 16."

Where we are:

This episode focuses on avoiding a government shutdown, with Frank extending an olive branch to the Republicans of agreeing to raise the retirement age and make some entitlement reform if the Republicans will pass the omnibus bill.

The way Frank figures, the retirement age is going to be raised eventually, so why not make a show of bipartisanship and get credit?

Everything seems fine, with Frank working with Senate Majority Leader Hector Mendoza to hammer out a compromise and get him to write in a formal agreement that if the Senate passes the retirement age amendment, it will signify passage of the entire omnibus bill.

Except Tea Party leader Curtis Haas balks and takes his caucus with him. The Republicans' absence means

Is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. the Hero Series That TV Deserves, Or the One It Needs Right Now?
The Broadcasting Company of America threw its mighty S.H.I.E.L.D. at you on Tuesday night — but was it truly super?

A small-screen follow-up/companion piece to The Avengers, Iron Man 3 and other Marvel-ous movies, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. resurrects (or did it?) Agent Phil Coulson (again played by Clark Gregg) for the purpose of assembling a team of agents that will investigate extra-normal and superhuman people (but never “mutants,” says 20th Century Fox’s lawyers!) and events worldwide.

Scandal! Grey’S Anatomy! Downton Abbey! The Vampire Diaries! General Hospital! The TV Addict Week in Rewind

Least Likely To Be In On A Joke: ABC’s Scranton affiliate won’t run an ad for the fictional Dunder Mifflin paper company during the Oscars because it doesn’t want to promote NBC’s The Office. You know, a show that’s about to end and therefore presents no future threat to their ratings?

Most Coveted Import: Forget those “reports” that Welsh hunk Tom Ellis was going to help Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary get over Matthew’s death. TVLine says that instead, he’ll be heading to the spook opera Gothica.

Best Flashback: Longtime General Hospital viewers are thrilled that everything old is new again now that the show is revisiting the legendary Luke/Laura/Scott triangle.

Why We Are Terrible People: Fine, we’ll admit it… the Radaronline.com claim that The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills producers are working overtime to get LeAnn Rimes to

TV on Tap: How "Arrested Development" Transforms the TV Series, E! Loves Whitney Cummings, Means It, and ABC is Enthusiastic about Joss Whedon's "S.H.I.E.L.D."

We get a whole hour of Cyndi Lauper on Saturdays thanks to her new reality show, Still So Unusual.

News

The upcoming season of Arrested Development will feature 14 episodes that each tell their own story. Each one will have elements that connect to each other, eventually giving a bigger picture when the whole season has been watched. As Alyssa Rosenberg of Think Progress notes, that makes it the first TV show that can be watched in any order, making it a show that can be watched in a nonlinear fashion, something that could only be achieved on a streaming service like Netflix.

Apparently, ABC chief Paul Lee was so enthusiastic about Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot when talking to reporters at the TCA that its difficult to imagine it not making the fall schedule.

TV on Tap: "Happy Endings" Gets David Alan Grier, Fox is Developing a Martha Stewart-Themed Comedy and Sam Page Heads to the "Last Resort"

For its tenth season, Top Chef is heading to a backdrop of Seattle.

News

Here's even more reason to keep hoping for Last Resort to survive (aside from being a very compelling show): Sam Page will appear on the thriller, playing the brother of military contractor, Kylie.

Happy Endings has found Brad's new boss — David Alan Grier will play the role.

I've repeatedly suppressed the urge to wish for Count Vertigo to appear on Arrow. He's the only Green Arrow villain I know (aside from heroin addiction) but he also doesn't belong to the non-powered corner of the DC Universe. Thus, imagine my surprise at the news that Vertigo will be the season's big villain... and interestingly he'll have some version of his powers. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for Cheshire, though.

Reelz will air the second season of Bomb Girls.

ABC is developing a comedy starring out Chelsea Lately panelist Fortune Feimster.

Lie to Me Reviews: Welcome to Cal-apaloosa!

  • TVfanatic
Lie to Me kicked off 2011 with Cal-apaloosa, as "Funhouse" and "Rebound" being shown back-to-back.

The two installments had two things in common: first, Lightman took both jobs to help a child; second, Lightman was as great as he has ever been.

While the writing for both episodes was exceptional, I found that I was really drawn to "Funhouse" a bit more. From Lightman eating a banana while sitting calmly in the middle of a patient fight where everyone else was standing, to him talking to his mother, who very well played by Paula Malcomson, I thought the episode was one of the best ever done.

I will freely admit that I have been a big fan of Malcomson since I first saw her on Deadwood years ago. But, really, it was Tim Roth who made the episode as satisfying as it was. He did such a great job of acting drugged up,

the oh-no! DVD of the week: ‘Slave’

This has absolutely no potential to be exploitive, right? Young naked blond woman with the word “slave” emblazoned behind her head? Nah: When David’s (Sam Page) fiancé Georgie (Natassia Malthe) is kidnapped while on a vacation in Spain, she becomes the trophy of a dangerous and masochistic psychopath known as the White Arab (David Gant). While Georgie fights for her life and her sanity, David must wade through a quagmire of corrupt officials, drug dealers and crazed locals in an attempt to discover her location and rescue her before it is too late. Totally a reasonable and rational and evenhanded treatment of the tough subject of sex trafficking, I’m sure. I mean, look at how the Region 2 version handles it:

Hot for teacher: 'Gossip Girl,' 'Life Unexpected,' 'Pretty Little Liars' make the grade

Remember how scandalous it was when Pacey (Joshua Jackson) lost his virginity to his English teacher on "Dawson's Creek" back in 1998? (Yes, that was 12 years ago. Yes, you're that old.) Pacey was pretty daring, in that he'd already encountered Miss Jacobs in class before he told her, "I'm the best sex you'll never have," which inspired... well, sex.

These days, student-teacher hookups are all over T.V. once again... but this time, they're accidental.

Say you're a teenage girl and you're out at one of your favorite hangouts. You bump into a very attractive guy, meet-cute style. You talk. He stares soulfully into your eyes. You make a deep connection. Then, depending on how mature you're feeling, you either kiss a little, have a steamy bathroom make-out session, or spend the night together "talking" in his bed. The next morning - bam! You discover he's your teacher.

Oops?

If you can relate,

Meanwhile, Serena (Blake Likely) discovers something about her new boyfriend, Colin (guest star Sam Page), that may put an end to their relationship just as it was getting good. Penn Badgley,
