“The Crown” is going out on a high note.
Elizabeth Debicki won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her role as Princess Diana in Netflix’s “The Crown.” Debicki was nominated but did not win last year for the fifth season (the statue went to Jennifer Coolidge for “The White Lotus”).
Debicki beat out fellow nominees Christine Baranski (“The Gilded Age”), Nicole Beharie (“The Morning Show”), Greta Lee (“The Morning Show”), Lesley Manville (“The Crown”), Karen Pittman (Mia Jordan), and Holland Taylor (“The Morning Show”).
The statue adds to “The Crown’s” massive Emmy haul over the years: Prior to Sunday’s ceremony, the six-season drama won 21 Emmys, including one for Emma Corrin, who portrayed a younger Princess Diana in Season 4 of the show.

One would be hard-pressed to find a casting director who doesn’t revel in the joy of discovering brand-new talent. “It’s one of the most exciting parts of the job,” says Robert Sterne, casting director on The Crown, the series that over the course of six seasons has embraced both British national treasures like Imelda Staunton, Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter, and turned lesser-known actors like
Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor into bona fide stars. “With something like The Crown, when you see somebody being given an amazing creative opportunity to really explore and develop their craft in a supportive environment that will then take them to the next stage, it is incredibly satisfying.”
Finding that diamond in the rough is not the easiest task. To cast Prince William, Prince Harry and Catherine Middleton for the final installment of the series, Sterne and his team combed through 15,000 submissions before,...

Jonathan Pryce was more than ready to portray Prince Philip when the call came five years ago for him to embody Queen Elizabeth’s consort in the Netflix drama hit The Crown.
“He’s someone I’ve lived with all my life,” he says.
From a distance, of course.
“He’s been part of my life, part of all our lives, since 1953, when I watched the Queen’s Coronation aged six,” he says. His family, in Carmel in Flintshire, North Wales, was one of the first on their street to have a television set.
Those memories were summoned once the call came, seven decades later, to play the man, who in public at least, was always seen walking behind his sovereign; hands clasped in the small of his back, his anointed spouse’s “strength and stay.”
Once Pryce burrowed into the whopping reams of background “the size of a book,...

“The Wire.” “The Hour.” “The Affair.” “The Crown.”
Dominic West has been a television mainstay for more than two decades now, but would you believe he has never received an Emmy nomination throughout his entire career? Luckily, that seems poised to finally change.
As of this writing, 14 out of Gold Derby’s 17 Experts from major media outlets are predicting that West’s Emmy curse will finally be broken with a Best Drama Actor nomination for Season 6 of “The Crown.” The English actor hopes to follow in the footsteps of Josh O’Connor, who won a lead acting Emmy in 2021 for his portrayal of Prince Charles on Netflix’s regal drama. West took over the role in Season 5 and continued playing the real-life royal until the series finale in December of 2023.

Prince Harry’s Heart of Invictus docuseries wasn’t exactly a smashing success for Netflix. New viewership data reveals that relatively few people bothered to watch the show, which spotlights the stories of wounded veterans training for the 2022 Invictus Games.
‘Heart of Invictus’ was one of Netflix’s least-watched new shows
Heart of Invictus dropped on Netflix on August 30, 2023. The show from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions received a favorable response from critics, with an 86% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But the average Netflix subscriber wasn’t enthralled, and the series failed to crack the streamer’s Top 10 list of most-watched shows in the days after its release.
Now, Netflix has revealed more details about how many people watched Heart of Invictus, and it’s not pretty. The show racked up just 300,000 views in months following its late-August release, according to What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report,...

“The Crown” can only play a pair of Queens at the Emmys.
Emmy winner Olivia Colman, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth in the series finale episode of Netflix’s monarchy drama, is not eligible to submit in the guest drama actress race by only a few seconds. However, her co-star Claire Foy, who also portrays Her Majesty in her younger years and appears in the same episode, is eligible and will be the sole guest submission for the series, angling for her second win in the category.
The “Sleep, Dearie Sleep,” written by Peter Morgan and directed by Stephen Daldry, clocks in at a robust 72 minutes, the longest of any episode across its six seasons. In the series’ final moments, Imelda Staunton’s Elizabeth looks back on the highs and lows of her reign as she grapples with the idea of handing the crown to Charles. Her younger self appears to...

“The Crown” is gearing up for its last hurrah at the SAG Awards, an organization that has bestowed a number of prizes onto the Netflix regal show over the years. It claimed the highly coveted TV drama ensemble prize twice (2019 and ’20), while individual winners through the years were Claire Foy (2016 and ’17), John Lithgow (2016) and Gillian Anderson (2020). Now the sixth and final season is hoping to prevail for a third time, which would tie it with “Downton Abbey” in this category at three total wins.
Season 6 faces off in the TV drama ensemble race against fellow nominees “The Gilded Age,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show” and “Succession.” Elizabeth Debicki is “The Crown’s” only solo acting nominee this year, with her co-nominees in the TV drama actress category being Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).

Exclusive: UTA has signed actor Luther Ford, who broke out with his turn as Prince Harry in The Crown‘s final season, for representation in all areas.
A film student booked from an open casting call, Ford can be seen in the Emmy-winning Netflix drama’s last set of six episodes, appearing opposite Ed McVey, who portrays Harry’s older brother, Price William. Released in two volumes, beginning last November, Season 6 hinges in part on the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and the impact the loss had on her two sons. It takes place from 1997 to 2005, during Tony Blair’s tenure as Prime Minister, and finds Harry the black sheep of the family, in contrast to William, who understands that he’s part of something bigger than himself, as part of the royal family. This year’s SAG Awards nominations for drama ensemble run the gamut in terms of total cast members nominated. You have “The Gilded Age” on one side with a jaw-dropping 34 people represented. And then you have “The Last of Us” on the other side with just two — hi, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! HBO’s zombie apocalypse series has now tied the Screen Actors Guild record with “Key and Peele,” which was the first TV show to nab an ensemble citation with just two stars: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
The “Key and Peele” funny duo lost to “Orange Is the New Black” for comedy ensemble in 2016, which had a whopping 34 cast members nominated that year. Hmm, a two-person cast losing to a 34-person ensemble? Might SAG Awards history repeat itself? “The Last of Us” competes this year against “The Gilded Age” (34 cast members), “Succession” (18), “The Crown” (15) and “The Morning Show...

King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s wedding day included lots of laughter. And reportedly Queen Elizabeth II was behind a lot of it. The late monarch giggled about the bride’s fashion mishap. [This story contains spoilers from the final season of The Crown.]
With the release of the last six episodes of The Crown on Netflix have come new questions about the fictionalized depiction of the British royal family.
In part two of the sixth and final season of the critically acclaimed historical drama, the stage is set for the future heirs to the throne as Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams) are granted permission to wed, and Prince William (Ed McVey) and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy) rekindle their relationship after a brief break.
“Those couples coming together felt like a beautiful end to our story,” executive producer Suzanne Mackie told The Hollywood Reporter in a previous interview. “That, in a way, peace is restored to the land.”

The final episodes of The Crown are here, and they could very well leave Prince Harry “triggered,” according to a royal expert. Covering 1998 to 2005, the second part of the sixth and final season, which debuted with part I in November 2023, depicts the years following Princess Diana’s death. But it’s the series’ focus on the Duke of Sussex’s brother, Prince William, as played by Ed McVey, that could hurt Harry most.

Prince William is the ‘linchpin’ in Part II of ‘The Crown’ Season 6
Royal expert Tessa Dunlop, who has seen the final episodes of The Crown, told Ok! Magazine the focus on William “puts Harry’s feelings of being spare in context,” (via Express).
Take, for instance, the first episode of Part II. It’s titled “Willsmania,” and all about William grappling with his newfound attention from the public in the wake of Diana’s death.

When Luther Ford sent in an audition tape to star in the final season of The Crown, putting his best foot forward to play Prince Harry in Netflix’s hit series, the 23-year-old didn’t expect to land the gig. As a university student studying editing and directing, Ford says he didn’t have professional acting experience or attend any kind of drama school, but his brother’s girlfriend texted him about an open casting call for the role of Harry and encouraged him to give it a go.

Forget Justin Timberlake or Nick Carter, in the late ’90s there was one heartthrob above all others who was guaranteed to make girls go wild: Prince William.
With his blossoming good looks, fancy title and tragic backstory, the British royal became the subject of teenage dreams across the globe. His face was plastered across magazines, hordes of screaming girls would gather outside anywhere he was scheduled to make an appearance, and, cementing his status as a pop culture icon, he even had an unwitting cameo in “Princess Diaries 2” when his photo flashed up on screen as a potential husband for Anne Hathaway’s character Mia.
The right royal hysteria that gripped the late ’90s and early 2000s is recreated in the sixth and final season of “The Crown” in an episode titled “Willsmania,” in which the bewildered teenager, still reeling from the loss of his mother Princess Diana, suddenly finds...

Actor Dominic West turned down an opportunity to work alongside his son, Senan West, for the second time on The Crown. The 54-year-old, who reprised his role as Prince Charles in the sixth and final season of the Netflix series about the late Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, stopped his son from doing the same. Why? Because of the scene where Charles tells 15-year-old Prince William that Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) died.
West forbade Senan from portraying William in ‘The Crown’ Season 6 because he didn’t want to tell ‘a boy his mother has died’
A heartbreaking scene in The Crown Season 6 involves West, as the now-King Charles III, telling his sons, the Prince of Wales and Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, that their mother, Princess Diana, played by Debicki, died in a 1997 car accident in Paris, France.

“The Crown” series finale premiere in London on Tuesday evening brought out the cast and creatives behind the hit Netflix show as well as a smattering of other familiar faces keen to catch a sneak peek of the last-ever episode.
Imelda Staunton, who plays the last iteration of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth and sixth seasons of the series, led the red carpet. Despite the chaos around her — from reporters clamoring to ask questions to photographers shouting her name — the star told Variety her focus had always been on the character.
“I don’t look at maelstrom,” she said. “It doesn’t interest me. I just look at the script, look at the part, go to work.”
Newcomer Meg Bellamy, who joined the series as a college-age Kate Middleton for Season 6, was more emotional about getting the part, which also happened to be her first ever professional acting job.

One of the most polarizing series on Netflix is gearing up for its last episodes.
The first four episodes of The Crown Season 6 launched earlier this month and were as controversial as ever.
Will the series be able to go out on a more low-key note with the second batch of episodes?
We're not sure that's possible, but it would be interesting.
The last batch of episodes are set to premiere on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Once again, the hit drama is doing the time warp by leaping forward to find William (Ed McVey) and Harry (Luther Ford) growing up while trying to come to terms with the tragic loss of their mother, Diana.
In Part 2, "Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother's death as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion," Netflix teases.

The Crown is preparing to release its final six episodes, and on Tuesday Netflix teased nine photos from the Emmy-winning historical drama’s last hurrah.
The first look photos for the second half of season six — which will mark the end of the hit royal drama — show a grown-up Prince William and Prince Harry following the death of their mother Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki), and introduces Meg Bellamy as the highly anticipated Kate Middleton. One of the photos is of Kate’s famous see-through dress, which marks the moment she first caught William’s eye when he was in the audience at her 2002 University of St. Andrews charity fashion show.
The first half of the final season consisted of four episodes (which are now streaming) and focused on Diana’s final months, including her overlooked relationship with Dodi Fayed (played by Khalid Abdalla) and their last moments together...

The final season of The Crown has arrived. Well, Part I, anyway, which consists of the first four episodes. And with it, the award-winning drama’s depiction of Princess Diana’s final days. That means scenes of actor Elizabeth Debicki frolicking in the sun prior to the fateful night in Paris, France, ending in the late royal’s death. Emotional to film for the cast, Debicki found herself “happiest on set” with two of her co-stars. Who exactly? Her TV children playing Prince William and Prince Harry.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains light spoilers for “The Crown” Season 6, Part 1.]
When the ghost of Diana, Princess of Wales, first appears, she says, “Ta-da!”
Narratively speaking, her cheeky apparition arrives in response to Charles (Dominic West) talking to himself. He’s just left Paris after examining her body — a sight spared the viewer, who’s just witnessed Mohamed Al-Fayed (Salim Daw) weep over his son’s corpse — and, on the plane ride back to England, he’s awestruck by his ex-wife’s sway over the world, even in death. “Paris,” he says. “One of the busiest cities in the world, and you brought it to a standstill.” And then there she is. No longer silent and still on a surgical table, but sitting right across from the father of her children. “Ta-da!” she says, as if Charles, let alone any of “The Crown’s” viewers, are in the mood for a magic trick.

Almost seven years to the day since it began, we’re about to give a royal wave of farewell to Netflix drama The Crown, but series six might be its most eye-opening yet, as its first part (out on November 16) deals with the events surrounding the tragic death of Princess Diana.
Some critics’ hackles might be up already after the show previously attracted condemnation for historical inaccuracies, so it will be especially interesting to see how the show covers such an emotive and important event in royal history, and just where the story ends when the final episodes are released on 14th December.
Even so, many fans will be disappointed not to see more recent events get The Crown treatment, like that Prince Andrew interview and Harry and Meghan’s very public royal uncoupling, but is it so far beyond the realms of possibility that the show might have a...

“The Crown” Season 6 has arrived, marking a sendoff for one of the most prestigious – and expensive – shows in Netflix history. The drama series has chronicled the reign of Queen Elizabeth II since her ascent in 1947, with the show rebooting its cast every two seasons to reflect the aging characters. Claire Foy’s Queen Elizabeth in Season 1 and 2 gave way to Olivia Colman’s in Season 3 and 4, which finally gave way to Imelda Staunton’s in these final two seasons.
“The Crown” Season 6 is dropping on Netflix in two halves and covers the tragic final weeks of Princess Diana’s life as it traverses the late 1990s into the early 2000s.
