Daniel R. Chavez was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. A graduate of North Hollywood High School and UCLA, majoring in Business with a minor in Film, he began his career with Columbia Pictures and rose thru the ranks gaining great insight into how a major studio operates. Daniel went on to management and executive positions with The Walt Disney Co., SoundStorm and Gray Matter. When Daniel was appointed Vice President of Post Production Services for Warner Bros. he was able to feel the real warmth of creative fires, establishing relationships with industry artisans and icons within film and television. During this time he was reading many scripts and began writing in earnest. This in turn allowed his passion for directing to surface. In 2010, Daniel launched DragonCove Studios, a full service production company where he began producing and directing commercials. With a full understanding and practical experience of concept to air, he fulfilled a goal by making "Broken Glass" - his writing and directorial award-winning feature film debut. Both original productions and acquisitions continue to be the main pursuit of Chavez and his DragonCove Studios banner.

While Vice President at Warner Bros., Daniel R. Chavez was given advice and encouragement from Clint Eastwood to pursue his dream of directing.
During the filming of "Broken Glass", writer/director Daniel R. Chavez sent the head shot of Cesar Garcia (played Hector Villalobos) to the producers of "Breaking Bad". Cesar subsequently appeared in 5 episodes of the hit series.
Daniel R. Chavez studied with three of the top script writing gurus before penning his feature film debut "Broken Glass". They were Syd Field, Robert McKee and John Truby.
Daniel R. Chavez' drama group took 1st place in the southern California Shakespeare Festival Group Tragedy for "Romeo & Juliet" his Freshman year in high school. Daniel played the part of Romeo.
During post production on "Proof of Life", Daniel R. Chavez worked with composer Danny Elfman to configure the Warner Bros. scoring stage for multitudes of authentic tribal drums from Africa as well as other countries.
Daniel worked with Mc G on the initial previz (pre-visualization) for "Superman Returns" before Bryan Singer came aboard.
Daniel worked with director Dennie Gordon on turning the Warner Bros. scoring stage into a set for her film "New York Minute" featuring the Olsen twins.
While an executive at Disney, Daniel proposed at the famously secret Club 33 in Disneyland. His oldest son Stephen was born on December 5th - the same day Walt Disney was born.

I love film making and being on set. It's this sublime marriage of technical expertise and artistic bravery. If that's not enough, the product of that incredible blend can emotionally move or inspire individuals for generations to come.
When I write about what scares me, I conjure thoughts that while frightening compel me to explore ferociously. It's cathartic and emotionally draining at the same time.
