Hounds of Love movie review: serial-killer porn

MaryAnn’s quick take… Lurid, pointless thriller teases us with a teenaged girl’s sexual and mortal peril, creating awful suspense around her abuse. Her terror is your titillation. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

The bare arms and legs of teen girl athletes, all smooth and tanned, as they run around on a ball court. So enticing! So alluring! Who is watching them? Serial-killer couple Evelyn and John White, their lazy covetous murderous gaze brought to us in slow-motion by screenwriter and director Ben Young. But it’s not the Whites who have slowed down time or chopped off the girls’ faces and heads — we may presume the couple see the girls’ full bodies at regular speed as they sit watching from their parked car nearby; they’re not even close enough to have

Hounds of Love: why do comedians make such chilling villains?

When comics break out of the mould – as Stephen Curry does in this tale about a sexual abuser and killer – the laughing stops suddenly

Related: Hounds of Love review – savagely intense Australian horror is the scariest film of the year

John White is not a funny guy. In Hounds of Love, a movie all the more disturbing for being based on real life, this Australian creep abducts and sexually tortures schoolgirls before killing them. He manipulates his insecure girlfriend into being an accomplice. He’s scrawny and obsessive-compulsive and altogether perfectly horrible.

Hitchcock/Truffaut – Review

I was 12 years old in 1968. One of my favorite places was the library, in those days the closest library to us was the Tesson Ferry Branch in South St. Louis County. My most prized possession was my library card.

My Mother used to drop me off there on a Saturday or a summer weekday and I would spend the whole day reading. One of those days I pulled a book off the shelf called Hitchcock/Truffaut and sat down to read it. I knew who Alfred Hitchcock was from his television show, and from his monthly Mystery Magazine as well as anthologies that I was reading avidly, Tales That Frightened Even Me, More Tales for the Nervous and, my favorite, Stories to be Read After Dark.

I was aware that Alfred Hitchcock was most renowned for directing movies. I had seen a few on television, Saboteur was a mainstay on Kplr TV,

Review — ‘Hounds of Love’ Is a Harrowing and Grimly Satisfying Experience

Hounds of Love’ Is a Harrowing and Grimly Satisfying ExperienceA deranged couple with a desire to kill, a teenage girl with a will to live.

A twisted relationship between a man and his wife sits at the center of writer/director Ben Young’s feature debut, but it’s the more innocent one between a teenager and her mother that viewers will hope prevails as the harrowing and unsettling Hounds of Love heads towards its conclusion.

It’s the late ’80s and Christmastime in Perth, Western Australia, and Vicki (Ashleigh Cummings) is enduring a common right of passage for teenagers the world over. Her parents have split, but while her dad tries to retain her affection with the gift of a new puppy, her mom (Susie Porter) is trying to establish ground rules. Vicki scoffs at her restrictions though and instead sneaks out into the night for a party, but along the way she has the misfortune

Two New Justice League Dark Clips Highlight Batman And Constantine

The two clips below from Justice League Dark see Etrigan make short work of the Demon's Three and Batman having a pretty unusual post-workout shave. While Etrigan is taking care of his demonic brethren, Constantine appears to be stealing...cash? Or was he looking for something else and just decided to pocket the money while he continued to search? That would certainly be very Constantine-esque. Justice League Dark is out on digital January 24, 2017 and blu-ray/DVD on February 7, 2017. Justice League Dark is directed by Jay Olivia and stars Matt Ryan, Camilla Luddington, Jason O'Mara, Jb Blanc, Ray Chase, Enrico Colantoni, Roger R. Cross, Jeremy Davies, Rosario Dawson, Brian T. Delaney, Alfred Molina, Jerry O'Connell, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Laura Post, Fred Tatasciore and Nicholas Turturro. It's rated R for Mature Content. Synopsis: Batman assembles a League of mystic heroes - the likes of Swamp Thing, the Demon, and

Joining them are Zatanna, Etrigan the Demon, Boston Brand and Swamp Thing.  That's quite the powerful team assembled, one that might even give the real Justice League a run for their money.  Surely they'll be enough to defeat Felix Faust and his dark minions. First Justice League Dark Clip Reveals Constantine's Poker Face

The latest DC All Access features a new clip from Justice League Dark, out on digital January 24, 2017 and blu-ray/DVD on February 7, 2017. Out of all the DC Comics superheroes (or anti-heroes in this case) John Constantine is probably the last person you want to play poker with, let alone try to cheat. Though we don't see how things turn out, I'm guessing things didn't go well for the demon (and I don't mean Etrigan). Also, as a bonus, the new DC All Access also has an inside look at the final chapter of Telltale's Batman game - The City of Light. Justice League Dark is directed by Jay Olivia and stars Matt Ryan, Camilla Luddington, Jason O'Mara, Jb Blanc, Ray Chase, Enrico Colantoni, Roger R. Cross, Jeremy Davies, Rosario Dawson, Brian T. Delaney, Alfred Molina, Jerry O'Connell, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Laura Post, Fred Tatasciore and Nicholas Turturro. It's rated R for Mature Content.

Ahs: What You Need to Know About the Real Mystery of the Lost Roanoke Colony

American Horror Story returned several weeks ago, and season six has been full of the same chills and surprises we're used to. Season six, aka Roanoke, features an old farmhouse and a yuppie couple eager to get away from city life. But the biggest mystery of all is one word, Roanoke, and it takes us all the way back to high school history class. Roanoke, also commonly known as the Lost Colony, was a 16th-century colony established on Roanoke Island in North Carolina. Led by John White, a renowned artist and close friend of the settlement's founder, Sir Walter Raleigh, it was the first British settlement in North America by the English, and White's granddaughter, Virginia Dare, was the first English child born on North American soil. Settling was not easy, and after running into problems with the local tribes, White returned to England to ask for help. It took him three years to return,

American Horror Story Season 6 Episode 3 Review: Chapter 3

  • TVfanatic
This was the best installment of the season yet.

American Horror Story Season 6 Episode 3 was a great, suspenseful hour of the series. It also managed to introduce a delightful new character – betting Cricket will go down in Ahs history as a fan favorite – and clarified a huge amount of backstory regarding the "principal" ghost, the Butcher.

One criticism to address right off the bat: "Chapter 3" was a major info dump. Like, it was so noticeably obvious that a character just went ahead and called it as it was.

The spirits downloaded to me like a paranormal zip drive.

Cricket Permalink: The spirits downloaded to me like a paranormal zip drive. Added: September 28, 2016

Zip file, indeed.

Cricket was literally traipsing through the woods when the ghosts took it upon themselves to telepathically transpose the 411 about their history, motives, and plans? Uh-huh. Right. Gotcha.

Despite how unimaginatively the exposition was laid out,

Ahs: My Roanoke Nightmare – What the Lost Virginia Colony Could Tell Us About Season 6

Ahs: My Roanoke Nightmare – What the Lost Virginia Colony Could Tell Us About Season 6
After last night's premiere, American Horror Story's sixth season is already proving to be just as creepy as the last five – and has a theme that's got some scary roots in reality.

This season's subtitle, My Roanoke Nightmare, is connected to the lost colony of Roanoke, a 1500s British settlement whose inhabitants disappeared without explanation. More than 400 years after the fact, there's still no definitive answer as to what happened.

While Roanoke in the Ahs world is still a bit of mystery, we aren't completely in the dark about its apparently real-life inspiration. Here's what we know about America's "lost colony.
