Born in Izmir, Turkey, Semih Tareen moved to the US to study film and film music. In 2001 he graduated from the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program where he studied with 2-time Emmy award winning composer Hummie Mann.
His scores range from full symphonic scores, recorded in film scoring stages in the United States, to scores produced in his studio using the latest technology. One of Tareen's latest scoring projects, "Gomeda", a feature length horror/surreal/fantasy film from Turkey, was released nationwide in theaters in Turkey, and had its international premier at the 2007 Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film. To further develop his skills specifically for cinema, Tareen studied filmmaking at the Seattle Film Institute where he completed his 16mm short film titled "Yellow". Yellow has screened at numerous film festivals and has been nominated for four awards at the Terror Film Festival: Best short thriller, best cinematography, best music, best actress. In addition to his western music education, he studied Turkish music with oud virtuoso and composer Munir Nurettin Beken.
