Sharon Walia is a documentary maker, Journalist and Scriptwriter. She recently wrote, directed and edited her first feature documentary The Movement which follows the everyday heroes saving refugees on land, at sea and from air. The film received a theatrical release via National Amusements and is currently touring independents. Sharon also received a Royal Television Society nomination in the Diversity category for her refugee reports over a one year period. She also made a special feature for BBC Inside Out following a 5 year old Syrian refugee resettled in the UK who is aiming to set up her own Youtube channel to help other refugees.
Sharon has been a keynote speaker and delivered two Masterclasses with the British Film Institute (BFI) in London. She is working on her next feature documentary where she will be offering up and coming filmmakers the opportunity to film with her. Sharon secured an agent with MacFarlane Chard Associates who are currently promoting The Movement and her first feature screenplay 'Syrian Mime' focusing on a female anti-Assad rebel fighter who is forced to escape Syria.
