Richard Henkels is an award-winning cinematographer known for his striking visuals and contemporary, naturalistic style. Henkels latest series State of Siege, based on the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, eight-episode series is based on journalist Sandeep Unnithan's book Black Tornado, Directed by Matthew Leutwyle. Henkels is as well known for his highly acclaimed documentaries Author: JT Leroy Story, American Epic, and the Mel Brooks: American Masters special for PBS and Sundance; and photographed the narrative films Life Before Her Eyes with Uma Thurman, Mall starring Vincent D'Onofrio & Gina Gershon, and Condemned with Dylan Penn & Lydia Hurst.
Influenced by his early work in skater punk videos on the streets of Philadelphia and his formal education in the highly-stylized world of Art Center College of Design, Henkels brings a unique blend of raw energy and precision styling to his relentless pursuit of storytelling.
