Based on the Israeli format Nevsu: A Young Multi-Cultural Couple, the potential single-camera series centers on a married couple (played by Bizuneh and Behrs) with deeply divergent backgrounds: he’s from a

Connecticut Theater Review: ‘Familiar’ by ‘Walking Dead’ Star Danai Gurira
Cross-cultural conflicts are at the heart of Danai Gurira’s overstuffed new play, depicting an emigrated, upscale Zimbabwean family living in suburban Minneapolis as it prepares for the wedding of their eldest daughter. But as the show’s premiere at New Haven’s Yale Repertory Theater makes clear, it’s the cross-genre conflicts that trip up the production as it careens from sitcom to melodrama to political tragedy to human comedy.

Fresh ideas of race, roots and responsibility abound from talented scribe Danai Gurira, who made an impact with her terrific play “Eclipsed” and as co-writer for Obie-winner “In the Continuum” — though she’s best known as the actor who plays Michonne in TV’s “The Walking Dead.” Seen at first through a prism of a jokey sitcom, this new play’s high aspirations just don’t fit, at least not under Rebecca Taichman’s helming.

When the bride-to-be and

Saving Lincoln, a historical drama about the relationship between President Abraham Lincoln and Ward Hill Lamon, his bodyguard and close friend, just opened in limited release in New York, Los Angeles, and select cities. Director Salvador Litvak is taking a novel approach to telling the story: he uses actual historical photographs as backdrops in his scenes. Actors, who performed in front of a green screen, were placed in front, providing a unique look.

The film stars Tom Amandes as Abraham Lincoln, Lea Coco as Ward Hill Lamon, Creed Bratton, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Josh Stamberg, with Bruce Davison as William H. Seward and Penelope Ann Miller as Mary Todd Lincoln.

Exclusive: Creed Bratton Talks History, The Office and Saving Lincoln
For the past nine years, comedy fans have gotten to know Creed Bratton for his role as a fictional version of himself on NBC's The Office. Those fans will see him in a completely different light in his new role as Senator Charles Sumner in the indie drama Saving Lincoln, debuting in theaters February 15.

I know what you're thinking. Yes, another Abraham Lincoln movie, timed perfectly for Honest Abe's birthday earlier this week. However, this is not at all what you are likely expecting. First off, this drama tells the essentially untold tale of Lincoln's bodyguard Ward Hill Lamon (Lea Coco), who spent more than four years thwarting assassination attempts during the Civil War. It also paints a rather intriguing picture (both literally and figuratively) of Lincoln (Tom Amandes) and his behavior towards the end of his life. I recently had the chance to speak with Creed Bratton over the phone to discuss this movie,

Giveaway – Win A Saving Lincoln Prizepack

Upcoming period film Saving Lincoln hits theaters on February 15th is based on a true story. When Abraham Lincoln (Tom Amandes) is elected President, he brings only one friend to Washington: his banjo-playing, joke-telling former law partner and confidant, Ward Hill Lamon (Lea Coco). Lamon is also large and handy with a gun, and when the first assassination attempt occurs in 1861, Lamon appoints himself the President’s bodyguard. He serves Lincoln faithfully throughout the four years of the Civil War and from this unique perspective, Lamon witnesses every aspect of Lincoln’s fiery trial as Commander-in-Chief, from the constant military and political pressure, to the personal losses of friends and family members.

Lamon soothes Lincoln’s tormented soul, saves him from repeated attempts on his life, and introduces him at the Gettysburg Address. Lamon is not present on that fateful night at Ford’s Theater in 1865 because Lincoln sends him on a mission,

Exclusive: Penelope Ann Miller Talks Mary Todd in Saving Lincoln
Penelope Ann Miller discusses her role as Mary Todd Lincoln in Saving Lincoln, in theaters this weekend

After the Best Picture nominee Lincoln and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter last year, I would have never imagined another movie about Honest Abe would be coming so soon. Just days after celebrating our 16th President's birthday, Saving Lincoln arrives in theaters Friday, February 15. While all three share the same historic figure at the heart of each movie, they are all incredibly different. Saving Lincoln is based on the true story of Ward Hill Lamon (Lea Coco), the longtime bodyguard of Abraham Lincoln (Tom Amandes) who thwarted several assassination attempts throughout the Civil War. Penelope Ann Miller also stars as the Potus' wife Mary Todd Lincoln in director Salvador Litvak's drama, which utilizes the unorthodox technique of using historic still photographs as the backdrops for each shot.

Tom Amandes stars as America's 16th President, with Lea Coco portraying U.S. Marshal Ward Hill Lamon, who prevented several assassination attempts during the Civil War. I wonder where this Ward Hill Lamon guy was during that night at Ford's Theater, though. Take a look at the first footage from director Salvador Litvak's intriguing drama.

'9 to 5' still timely to Drama Desk
"9 to 5," the musical version of the 1980 hit movie comedy, received a generous stimulus package from the Drama Desk on Monday, netting a record 15 nominations from the organization of New York-based theater critics, reporters and editors for its annual awards.

Other top nominees included "Shrek the Musical" with 12, "Billy Elliot" with 10, "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" with six and the "Hair" revival with eight.

The previous record for the most noms was 14 shared by five shows -- "The Secret Garden" (1991), "Ragtime" (1998), "The Producers" (2001), "Hairspray" (2003) and "The Drowsy Chaperone" (2006).

"9 to 5" opened March 30 on the same night as Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of "Waiting for Godot," which received two nominations. Those are the last two productions of the 2007-08 Broadway season.

Unlike the Tony Awards, the DDs consider Broadway, off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway equally in all of its categories. The noms were determined by a seven-member committee. The winners will be voted on by
