A self-proclaimed 80s film nerd with a penchant for comedy, drama, thrillers and sci-fi, award-winning international filmmaker Jason Bourque has written, directed and produced a wide variety of features, television movies, series and documentaries.

In 2007 Jason co-wrote and co-directed the ground-breaking theatrical documentary "Shadow Company" narrated by Gerard Butler. An in-depth look into the global soldier of fortune industry, the festival hit (SXSW, Hot Docs) was reviewed favorably in the New York Times, Variety and has been used as a teaching tool for the US Senate. Jason co-directed "Darwin's Brave New World" for CBC and ABC Australia, an award-winning docudrama series shot in five countries. "Music For Mandela", his last feature documentary shot throughout South Africa, won the People's Choice Award at the Amnesty International Film Festival.

A prolific genre screenwriter based in Vancouver British Columbia, Jason has written thirty produced scripts and has several high-profile projects slated for 2023 including the action thriller "Sixteen", the supernatural horror "Iris" and the comedy drama "Widows Club". Recent releases include "The Fixer", his second television mini-series for Sonar, Muse Entertainment and FOX UK. Jason served as a story editor and writer (2 episodes) on the new high-octane thriller series "Insomnia" on Amazon Prime.

Jason's theatrical feature "Black Fly" (writer/director) premiered at VIFF and received nominations for Best Canadian Film as well as 10 Leo Award nominations. It won for Best Male Lead Actor. Accolades include Best Feature at the Arizona Underground Film Festival and the UBCP / ACTRA Award for Best Newcomer. Jason's latest award-winning theatrical feature "Drone" is an indie success story. Starring Emmy-award winner Sean Bean, it was released theatrically in the US and was the #1 Indie and #2 thriller on iTunes. Recent releases include the feature "Grand Theft Auto Girls", Hallmark's "My Christmas Family Tree" (highest rated MOW of 2021) and "A Christmas Tree Grows in Colorado" (Vanity Fair's best Christmas movies of 2020). Upcoming releases include two episodes of "Medinah", the world's first Arabic / English science fiction series shot in Qatar. Jason recently produced the romantic comedy "The Right One" released in early 2021 through Lionsgate Entertainment. This was followed by the award-winning LGBTQ theatrical drama "When Time Got Louder", made in association with his production company Gold Star Productions Inc.

  • Trivia
His first feature, "Maximum Surge (2003)", was shot in nine days on an ultra-low budget, and incorporated a half-hour of video game footage starring Yasmine Bleeth and Walter Koenig. Based on its success, he was given the opportunity to direct the MOW "Wildfire 7 (2002)", later that same year.
