Theo Avgerinos is an award-winning Greek-American filmmaker known for his work in independent cinema. Born in New York City, he developed a passion for storytelling at a young age, including making a documentary for his Eagle Scout project. He was also a captain of his high school football team.
He graduated from Bucknell University in 2000, where he co-founded the university's first student film production company and spearheaded the creation of Bucknell's first Film Studies major, which later led to the establishment of a dedicated film department.
Theo made his feature directorial debut at age 25 with Fifty Pills, starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Kristen Bell, Jane Lynch, and Michael Peña, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. His follow-up feature, Americons, had a national theatrical release through AMC Theaters.
Most recently, Theo directed Rising Hope, a powerful documentary, over 5 years in the making, exploring resilience and mentorship in struggling communities. The film premiered to critical acclaim, winning multiple awards at its first few festivals.
Beyond filmmaking, Theo has a love for piano, guitar, photography, history and travel. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is married to jewelry designer Daria de Koning.
