Irene Cruz (Madrid 1987) is a Spanish cinematographer and photographer who resides in and works between Berlin and Madrid. She studied cinematography at the EFTI school thanks to a scholarship. Irene has a highly poetic approach to photography, with a personal style that features meticulous lighting and is adaptable to all kinds of sequences.
As DOP she has participated in several feature films: the thriller "Diana" (Alejo Moreno, 101 min, 2018), "Proven Facts" (a feature documentary film and series of 3 chapters of 60 min each, 2021). She is shooting the second part of the feature-length documentary, "Fraud" (Alejo Moreno TBD). Recently she has also worked with the renowned director and screenwriter Tirso Calero on "Mago" (2022, Mediterráneo Media).
Within the field of German cinema, she was the DOP of "Janine zieht auks land" (Fiction, Jan Eilhardt, Nordmedia 2023), "Bad Luck" (Jan Eilhardt, Kultur Brücke 2022) and "Nicht Fertig" (Hector Salgado, Tunnel Films, TBD).
In 2021- 2022 Irene has been one of the DOPs of "Planet Sex", a six-part doc series starring Cara Delavigne (Jessica Chermayeff, Vicki Cooper, Ana Veselic, BBC, HULU).
In her more commercial side, Irene has directed, worked as DOP, and as a photographer in numerous advertising campaigns for major brands such as Dior, Levi's, and Skintist. She has also created video art pieces, most notably her work for the Deutsche Oper (2014-17). In 2021, she was recognized as one of the "Filmmakers of the Future" by Canon Europe, and she serves as a brand ambassador for Canon and MPB as a content creator. While she actively collaborates with other brands such as Robisa, Peli Cases, Angelbird, Feelworld, and Lomography, Irene works independently and is not exclusively tied to any production company.
Since 2019, Irene has been an associated member of the AEC (Spanish Society of Cinematographers) and of CIMA (Association of Women Filmmakers in Audiovisual Media) since 2018. In Berlin she is part of the organization of Women+ Film Network Berlin and Arsenal - Institut for Film & Videokunst (by the Berlinale's Forum section).
