I think I can safely say that not only I, but Mr. David Hoffman, are both pretty excited to see The Monuments Men. And having read the book a while back, I am really curious to see how George Clooney turns this fascinating true story of men picked to save the worlds cultural treasures from being destroyed by the Nazi's, into a 2 hour representation. The movie was scheduled to come out Dec 18th...was scheduled. It seems time is not on Clooney's side and the film is being pushed to Feb 2014. Wait, February?...

A thank you is in order to David Hoffman for taking over the Fearless Forecast this past Friday while I was taking care of some issues. Anywho, Despicable Me 2 was the clear-cut winner this weekend beating out The Lone Ranger. It did much better than expected, earning $82.5 million dollars, fourteen and a half million dollars more over the predicted $68 million. The reviews have been kind to the sequel, not to, however, The Lone Ranger.

The Young and the Restless tallied 23 nominations as honors were announced this morning for the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Restless’ impressive take helped CBS lead all networks with 50 overall nominations. PBS and ABC followed, with 44 and 38 nods, respectively.
General Hospital, which earned 19 nominations, joined Restless in the race for Outstanding Drama Series, and Sesame Street received 17 nods, including three for Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo who faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
Good Morning America and Today will bring their ratings rivalry to the Emmys, where they’ll be joined by CBS Sunday Morning in the Outstanding Morning Program category.

Yesterday, David Hoffman gave us the teaser poster for The Hangover 3 that "borrowed" from the last Harry Potter film. It's pretty funny and based on that the third film feels likes it's going to a completely new and (hopefully) fresh direction. However, with the new teaser, while it does manage to bring some laughs and site gags, it feels like it's being Die Hard-ified.

Which is it Khan, Gary Mitchell.or other?
There's no doubt Star Trek Into Darkness looks incredible, and people lucky enough to have an IMAX ticket to The Hobbit will get to see how impressive the first 9 minutes of the sequel are. In that 9 minutes, they'll learn more about the villain Benedict Cumberbatch is playing, John Harrison and his intentions for Kirk and the Enterprise crew. David Hoffman shared his theories about Cumberbatch looking eerily similar to Gary Mitchell, not Khan from the original series earlier this week in a screenshot.
Possible Spoiler Alert ahead...

Look everyone, Michael Bay would like to take a moment and get serious about the Ninja Turtles script. You remember the script that was leaked a couple of weeks back? (read David Hoffman's funny take on it here). The leaked script that was all the proof needed to confirm out worst fears about a Teenage Ninja Turtles movie being produced by Michael Bay? Well Bay, in a rare moment of appeasement, is now trying to quell those fears by going on the defensive. Bay went to his website to address the issue. Fire away Michael.

Sure enough the day after I call The Dark Knight Rises latest TV spot the last trailer we need watch before July 20th, Nokia makes me look like an idiot as they released a far, far superior preview. The same thing happened to Gtbp's David Hoffman last month when he criticized an underwhelming Dark Knight poster only to have three outstanding character posters of Bane, Batman and Catwoman (like the one above) emerge the following day. Sorry we can't be as perfect as this new trailer all the time.

After months of anticipation, Snow White and The Huntsman has finally been released and to mixed reviews. Currently holding a mid 40s on rottentomatoes.com and a One Abiding Dude Rating from David Hoffman, this may not have been the Snow White film everyone was hoping for.
I have spoken to people who have seen this and the general consensus is that men will hate this film and women, on the other hand will enjoy it. But that didn’t stop people from throwing their money at it. Yes, the film came in first place this weekend earning $56 million.

This poster is okay, but the new ones will make you go batty...
David Hoffman wasn't too impressed by The Dark Knight Rises poster (above) released yesterday, and can't say I blame him. The background is spectacular, only problem this Batman doesn't look like he belongs with it. Maybe we're being overly critical at this point because Nolan and company have set the promotions bar so sky high for this franchise. Perhaps that poster was a lead in to the three new character banner posters that arrived online today, which fall into the rare category of mind-blowing wicked, ultra bad ass. ...

With The Avengers nearly in theaters (May 4th) we've seen a lot of recent casting movement on one of the heroes' next movie. Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and now Jessica Chastain have all been mentioned for parts in Iron Man 3, according to Deadline. Kingsley was reportedly negotiating for the lead villain role. Our David Hoffman told us this past weekend that Pearce will play a geneticist, Aldrich Killian, "who creates a nanotechnology virus capable of turning people into supersoldiers".
And reports have Chastain pegged for the role of a "sexy scientist."...

With David Hoffman, Josh Baldwin, Mario Melidona, and our editor writing about the best films of 2011, I thought I would just flip the script and tell you about the worst film of 2011 (because of school, I haven't seen many films this year. So bare with me if your least favorite is on the list).
No other in 2011 had me scratching my head and face palming harder than Transformers: Dark of the Moon. What a surprise! A Michael Bay film.

So the viral marketing begins with "Operation Early Bird" (to which Get The Big Picture's David Hoffman covered, click here to read) and the twitter handle "fire rises". It's no surprise that promoting the heck out of the IMAX Prologue (which will premiere in front of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol next week) will make the internet buzz with praise/scrutiny by comic book fans. Until then, read up on what director Christopher Nolan has to say about the last installment The Dark Knight Rises.

Gtbp's own David Hoffman wrote about The Cabin in The Woods poster the other day, and pretty much indicated moviegoers should expect the unexpected with this upcoming horror flick that was written and produced by Joss Whedon. Not knowing much about this film, prior to the trailer and not liking the horror genre, I figured this wouldn't be my kind of movie.
However, after watching this trailer, I can safely say I was wrong. This movie is far more than your run-of-the-mill camper/cabin slasher film, not surprising with the brilliant mind of Whedon behind it.

The film of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy keeps alive the myth that cold war spies actually mattered
John le Carré doesn't like it. "I don't watch Spooks," he said at his Tinker Tailor cinema launch. "It's crap." Too many fast women and fast shoot-outs: too much playing fast and loose with the routines he remembers. But then, in the elusive world of espionage, crap flows commodiously in many shapes and forms. As it does, frankly, through Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Leave Spooks in its BBC Sunday slot, locked in mortal battle with Downton Abbey. Both, put politely, are superior tosh. But Le Carré's masterwork and masterly movie? It's great to see the old London back: no speed bumps or CCTV cameras. It's a downbeat delight for film buffs who love pregnant pauses, inscrutable looks and 127 screen minutes without a joke. Yet the point to grapple with here is rather more...

Tavares created this impressive short film Robots of Brixton to honor the thirtieth anniversary of the infamous Brixton riots of 1981, a confrontation between the Metropolitan Police and protesters in Lambeth, South London, England, between 10 and 12 April 1981. The main riot on 11 April, dubbed “Bloody Saturday” by Time magazine, resulted in almost 280 injuries to police and 45 injuries to members of the public and is considered one of the worst race riots ever to take place in the UK.
Here is the description from the short:
Brixton has degenerated into a disregarded area inhabited by London’s new robot workforce – robots built and designed to carry out all of the tasks which humans are no longer inclined to do. The mechanical population of Brixton has rocketed, resulting in unplanned, cheap and quick additions to the skyline.
The film follows the trials and tribulations of young robots surviving at the sharp end of inner city life,...

In our latest Midnight Rant, we discussed the fun of receiving news via Twitter. Sometimes it’s a teaser, others times it can be false. However, there is no denying it’s an effective method of communication. Even big developers like Square Enix like to toy with us.
Square Enix producer David Hoffman has been using his Twitter to tease us with a game called “Project X.” The only real info given is that it’s an RPG, and he thinks it will be great. Here are a number of tweets he has sent out about the project:
- “Unannounced project looking kick ass. I pray the mktg and PR will give it the attn it deserves when the time is right.”- “Is knee deep in review for project X. When revealed it will blow your socks off! The media thought Se and Gpg was interesting -- just wait!
