TechTV fuses units; 7 jobs cut

TechTV is in the process of consolidating production units, an initiative that resulted in the loss of seven staff positions Thursday. A spokeswoman said the changes were to increase production efficiencies. "Some of our original programming is going to share production teams since they already share so many topics and resources," she said. Staffing now being added for Unscrewed With Martin Sargent and X-Play will result in a net growth in personnel numbers, the spokeswoman added. In a related move, Chris Pirillo was replaced by Leo Laporte as host of Call for Help. Laporte, who was the original host of the advice program, will continue as the host of Fresh Gear. Fellow host Sumi Das is unaffected by the changes."
