Terry started his composing professionally at the National Theatre, where he had been an experienced music director and orchestrator. He first worked there as co-orchestrator of the multi-award winning 'Guys and Dolls', which was followed by 12 years of National Theatre productions with leading actors and directors. He has also written music for many other UK theatres. He has written 2 musicals: 'The Birds', commissioned by the Istanbul City Theatre, which ran for 4 years, and 'Kes! The Musical' for the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, and later at York's Theatre Royal.
In the recording studio, Terry has conducted or orchestrated the music for many films and TV programmes, amongst these 'Youth', 'Florence Foster Jenkins', 'Mr Turner', 'The King's Speech', 'The Illusionist', 'Brideshead Revisited', 'The Gruffalo', 'Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes' and many more. He often conducts live orchestral performances to films and enjoys playing live piano to silent films.
Terry is an associate artist of choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne's company, New Adventures, writing scores for 'Lord of the Flies', 'The Car Man', 'Play Without Words' (Olivier Award for Best Entertainment), Edward Scissorhands and Dorian Gray.
