Was a member of the first graduating class of the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax, Virginia. Graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Worked as a middle school teacher, and then as a consultant to the Navy before becoming a professional feature and television writer.
