The deal was negotiated for New Republic by Lindsay Conner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. Jason Sloane at Sloane, Offer, Weber, and Dern negotiated the deal on behalf of Dmc.
Dmc debut feature came from John Maclean’s Slow West, which won the World Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. Other producing credits include Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth and Assassin’s Creed, which stars Fassbender. Future projects include Calm With Horses, from director Nick Rowland, Dreadful Ned, written by Joe Murtagh, and The Lesser Bohemians, adapted from the novel of the same name by Eimear McBride.

Producer Brian Oliver’s New Republic Pictures (Nrp) has signed Michael Fassbender and Conor McCaughan’s Dmc Film to a first look feature production deal.
Fassbender and McCaughan are joined in the partnership with Nrp by producers Daniel Emmerson and Theo Barrowclough.
Dmc’s productions have included Slow West, Macbeth and, with New Regency and Fox, Assassin’s Creed. The company’s upcoming projects include Calm With Horses, co-produced with Element Pictures, Joe Murtagh’s Dreadful Ned, novel adaptation The Lesser Bohemians and Hayley Squires’ Gentle In The Bones.

Paramount describes the movie as an epic musical fantasy telling the incredible human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years.
The film, scripted by Lee Hall, follows the fantastical journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John.
The film is an adaptation of Boston Teran’s novel, set during the 1910 Mexican revolution, the story is told through the eyes of a small-time assassin named Rawbone (Craig) and a young Bureau of Investigation agent called John Lourdes. The pair – who are also estranged father-and-son – work together to infiltrate the Mexican criminal underground.
This will mark Field’s third feature-length directorial outing, his last being 13 years ago with ‘Little Children’. Filming is expected to commence in Spring 2020 once Craig wraps on ‘Bond 25’. Hacksaw Ridge’s Brian Oliver will produce.

A live-action independent version of “The Little Mermaid,” starring British actress Poppy Drayton, has been set for release nationwide exclusively in AMC Theatres beginning Aug. 17.
The movie is inspired by the 1837 Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale rather than the Disney animated movie and follows a young girl who discovers an enchanting woman she believes to be the real “Little Mermaid” of lore.
William Moseley stars as a reporter following a story about a mermaid and a magic healing water. Together with his sick niece, played by Loreto Peralta, they travel to a small town in Mississippi to uncover a legend.

Johnny Lin, producer of the upcoming sci-fi thriller Rise and psychological thriller Sacrifice, has acquired the rights to the script which was featured on the was previously included on the coveted Black List, the annual ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced scripts. Lin and his Filmula Entertainment will fully finance and produce the project.
The story follows a young girl who, after being told that Santa Claus isn’t real on Christmas Eve, is kidnapped by an evil elf named Bucklebee. Under its first-look deal, Paramount will co-finance and distribute some of New Republic films. The two companies have agreed to co-finance Paramount’s Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” starring “Kingsman” star Taron Egerton. Academy Award-nominee Lee Hall (“Billy Elliot”) wrote the screenplay and Dexter Fletcher (“Eddie the Eagle” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”) will direct.
“Earlier stops in my career, especially at Propaganda Films and Cross Creek Pictures, allowed me to learn all aspects of production, finance, distribution, and marketing, and to construct my own company from that extensive knowledge base in every aspect of the business,” Oliver said in a statement. “Building a new company from the ground up was a bit more challenging than I imagined and there have been a couple starts and stops with potential financing partners, but I believe the things I learned throughout this process will allow me to position my investors in even better ways for continued success.”

New Republic made its first spec purchase in December for the Matt Tente original screenplay “GreenRush” written by Matt Tente. The film will be a character-driven heist thriller set in the world of legal marijuana dispensaries. New Republic is producing the project with Will Packer and James Lopez of Will Packer Productions.
Oliver was the co-founder of the production and financing company Cross Creek Pictures before launching New Republic Pictures. At Cross Creek, he was responsible for spearheaded award-winning films such as “Black Swan” and “Hacksaw Ridge.”
Films that Oliver has helped produce have received 13 Oscars nominations, 14 Golden Globe nominations and 23 BAFTA Award nominations, along with more than $1.4 billion of worldwide box-office grosses.

The creative team from Cross Creek, including John Hilary Shepherd as head of development and Courtney Shepherd as creative executive, will be joining the new venture. New Republic has also hired former Pixomondo head of production Bj Farmer as vice president of production and Angus Sutherland, formerly of Exclusive Media and Imr International, as vice president of acquisitions and production.
Matthew Quigg joins New Republic from Paramount Television and the company said it plans to announce more hires in television, digital and new media in the future.
The deal with Paramount was negotiated on behalf of Oliver and New Republic by Kenneth Deutsch at Latham & Watkins and by Lindsay Conners of Mannat and Phelps.
