Alexis Bicât was born in London and is of Chechen, Russian, French, English and Irish descent. A member of BAFTA Connect and Directors UK, he holds a degree in English Literature and Film from London Metropolitan University, as well as a Masters in Psychology from the University of Highlands and Islands.
Bicât grew up in the Cotswolds and was educated at a local comprehensive school. His passion for the performing arts began early, first as an actor with Chipping Norton Theatre. Title roles in Aladdin, Robin Hood and Ernie's Incredible Hallucinations led to professional parts in Christmas Present (1985) and Inappropriate Behaviour (1987). His musical interests included drumming (he turned down the role of drummer in rock band Ride) and the trumpet, which he played in the Oxford County Orchestra. He moved to London to start his film career and set up Parent Films as a teenager. The nascent outfit went on to deliver a number of nationwide theatrically released short films, including the multi-award winning To Catch a Crow (2000) and Noise Control (2003) which starred Nick Moran.
Bicât also directed the Raindance Film Festival, co-founded the third largest film market in the world (the pre-MIFED London Screenings) and composed music for Fox Children's Productions. Heading to Los Angeles to hone his craft, he worked on a heist movie with the producers of The Long Good Friday (1980) and Edge of Darkness (1985). Now living between London, Los Angeles and the Cotswolds, he has resumed his directing career with Romchyk (2025), an acclaimed short film highlighting the cost of the war in Ukraine. The film has been watched by Pope Francis and won the audience award for best emerging filmmaker at Cambria Film Festival.
