Studiocanal adds production exec, expands role of UK CEO Danny Perkins

One World Films exec joins Studiocanal, which announces expanded production role for UK CEO Danny Perkins.

Studiocanal has expanded its international film production activities with the appointment of producer Matthew Gledhill [pictured] as senior vice president, international production, and by assigning a broader production remit to UK CEO Danny Perkins.

The Paris-based film and high-end TV division of the Vivendi-owned Canal+ Group said Gledhill’s arrival on March 31 was part of the ongoing development of its international film production activities.

Gledhill, who joins from One World Films, will act as an executive producer on international feature films produced in-house by Studiocanal.

He will also oversee titles produced by Ben Stassen’s Belgian-based 3D/4D animation studio nWave Pictures, which is a subsidiary of Studiocanal. Past features by the company include Robinson Crusoe and The House Of Magic.

Viggo Mortensen Is "Far From Men"

Viggo Mortensen has joined David Oelhoffen's $7.7 million French-language feature "Loin des hommes" ("Far From Men") for One World Films.

The story is inspired by Albert Camus' short story "The Host," Mortensen plays a French teacher in a small Algerian village in 1957 during the war of independence from France.

He is ordered to take a dissident to the authorities to turn him in but the two men unexpectedly bond. Marc du Pontavice and Matthew Gledhill will produce.

Klaus Badelt’s ‘War of the Buttons’ Score Released

Strategic Marketing Group has released a soundtrack album for the new movie adaptation of War of the Buttons (La guerre des boutons). The album includes the original score by composer Klaus Badelt, which was recorded with the London Metropolitan Orchestra. The soundtrack is currently only available in France, but a domestic release is expected in the near future. To listen to audio clips from the score, check out the French Amazon site. La guerre des boutons is directed by Yann Samuell (Love Me if You Dare, My Sassy Girl) and produced by Matthew Gledhill. The movie tells the classic story of the battles waged by a band of kids from two rival villages in the southern French countryside. The film was released in France last month. No domestic release date has been announced so far.

Philippe Rombi has also recently scored another version of War of the Buttons entitled La nouvelle guerre des boutons.
