Movie Review – The Book of Love (2016)

The Book of Love, 2016.

Directed by Bill Purple.

Starring Jason Sudeikis, Maisie Williams, Orlando Jones, Paul Reiser, Mary Steenburgen, and Jessica Biel.

Synopsis:

Henry is an introverted architect. After the death of his wife in a car accident, he sets out to help Millie, a homeless teen, to build a raft to sail across the Atlantic.

For a movie titled The Book of Love, there isn’t much to do with a book of love. What audiences largely get instead is even worse; a nonsensical saccharine mess involving a recent widow (Jason Sudeikis) forming a bond with a stray New Orleans-accented teenage girl (Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones) that wishes to follow in her father’s footsteps and sail out on adventure, using a makeshift raft. The obvious metaphor here is that they are both escaping their troubles and horrible reality. It’ll also no doubt result in death,

Trailer for The Book of Love starring Jason Sudeikis, Maisie Williams and Jessica Biel

The first trailer has arrived online for director Bill Purple’s upcoming drama The Book of Love. Previously titled The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, the film stars Jason Sudeikis, Maisie Williams and Jessica Biel; watch it below…

“After the accidental death of his free-spirited pregnant wife, Penny (a luminous Jessica Biel), reserved architect Henry (Jason Sudeikis) struggles to find meaning in his life and in the work that once consumed him. As he continues to work on the house he and Penny were building together, Henry is drawn to a mysterious young runaway named Millie (Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams) whom Penny had often talked about helping. Though Millie mistrusts Henry at first, the two build a tentative friendship as she reveals her ambition to build a raft to sail away from her dark past and start anew. Taking on the father role he was meant to have,

Jason Sudeikis & Maisie Williams in First Trailer for 'The Book of Love'

"This is madness!" "No it's not!" Electric Entertainment has unveiled a trailer for an indie titled The Book of Love, formerly known as The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea when it first premiered. The story is about an introverted architect name Henry, played by Jason Sudeikis, who befriends a homeless teen and helps her build a boat. That sounds a bit weird, but obviously it's a quirky little indie drama about supporting the (crazy) dreams of others. Maisie Williams stars in this, with Jessica Biel, Mary Steenburgen, Paul Reiser, Orlando Jones and Joshua Mikel. This seems to be inspired a bit by the Kon-Tiki story, and it also reminds me of the real story of a girl who sailed around the world - as seen in Maidentrip. Check it out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Bill Purple's The Book of Love, direct from Et's YouTube: Henry is an introverted architect.

Maisie Williams Sets Sail In First Trailer For The Book Of Love

The Book of Love is long and boring, according to Peter Gabriel, but it happens to be the new title for Bill Purple’s upcoming adventure drama starring Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones.

Originally called The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, Purple’s original pic – one written by Robbie Pickering – enjoyed its worldwide debut at Tribeca back in April, and is now teetering on the verge of theatrical release. And so, to drum up excitement, Entertainment Tonight has today lifted the lid on the rousing first trailer for The Book of Love (see below), and in it we see Williams’ runaway teen Millie set sail with the help of reticent architect Henry (Jason Sudeikis).

Fostering an unlikely friendship between the two, Purple’s feature film debut takes place soon after Henry loses his pregnant wife (Jessica Biel) and though that may be a premise that could so easily dissolve into soppy melodrama,

‘The Book of Love’ Trailer: Maisie Williams Sets Out for the Deep Blue Sea
When last we saw Maisie Williams, she was providing some much-needed fan service by offing an especially despicable character on “Game of Thrones.” A girl has both a name and a mission in “The Book of Love,” a new film co-starring Jason Sudeikis and Jessica Biel. Jessica Biel Talks Filming While Very Pregnant, How She Got Hubby Justin Timberlake to Score Her New Movie

Jessica Biel Talks Filming While Very Pregnant, How She Got Hubby Justin Timberlake to Score Her New Movie
There's a reason Jessica Biel is so convincing playing a woman about to give birth in her new indie drama The Book of Love—it's because she was about eight months pregnant when she shot the movie. "We had five days to shoot you or else you couldn't fly," Book of Love's director and co-writer Bill Purple said last night during a Q&A with Biel (and moderated by yours truly) at the New Orleans Film Festival. "It was a scary time." Biel laughed, "It was always good to be laying down at that point in my pregnancy." Purple added, "We shot in February and it was like 30 degrees. Our crew buried heaters under the ground to keep Jessica warm. I felt so bad. It was...

Tribeca Review: 'The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea' Starring Jason Sudeikis, Maisie Williams, Jessica Biel, And More

Two recent films are bound to come to viewers’ minds while watching Bill Purple’s feature debut “The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea,” one more obvious than the other. The less obvious point of comparison is “Demolition,” Jean-Marc Vallée’s recent seriocomic examination of a man’s eccentric (to put it mildly) expressions of his grief over his wife’s sudden death. Though the grieving husband in Purple’s film, Henry (Jason Sudeikis), doesn’t have the same obsession with destroying physical objects in order to better understand their inner workings as Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal) in Vallée’s film does, Henry — also a successful middle-class type with a penchant for caution that is shattered by his personal loss — similarly finds himself developing a mania that seems crazy to most outside his usual circles: an obsession with helping a homeless girl, Millie (Maisie Williams), fulfill her dream of building a
