Dean Zanuck represents the third generation of one of Hollywood's most illustrious film families. His grandfather was the legendary Darryl F. Zanuck, Co-Founder and Chairman of 20th Century Fox, and his father was the Oscar-winning Producer, Richard D. Zanuck.
In a career that spans over 25 years, Zanuck has developed and produced a host of memorable and commercially successful feature films. He served as a Production Executive for the Zanuck Company on Warner Bros' True Crime (1999), directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. He again served as an Executive on Paramount Pictures' Rules of Engagement (2000), starring Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson.
Zanuck was also involved in the development and production on such blockbusters as DreamWorks' Academy Award-winning Road to Perdition (2002), directed by Sam Mendes, starring Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, DreamWorks' Deep Impact (1998), Columbia Pictures' Big Fish (2003), Warner Bros' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), and Walt Disney Pictures' mega-hit, Alice in Wonderland (2010), directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp.
After nine years as Head of Development and Production for The Zanuck Company, Zanuck formed Zanuck Independent and Zanuck Family Entertainment.
Zanuck Independent produced the award-winning comedy/drama, Get Low (2009), starring Bill Murray, Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek, the sci-fi fantasy The Zero Theorem (2013), directed by Terry Gilliam, starring Christoph Waltz, Matt Damon and Tilda Swinton, and the supernatural thriller, Voice from the Stone (2017), starring Marton Csokas and Emilia Clarke. Next up is the WWII romantic drama, The Man Who Saved Paris, starring Andy Serkis and Mackenzie Foy.
In addition to overseeing Zanuck Independent, Zanuck is producing a slate of family films and multi-platform properties for Zanuck Family Entertainment. The first to go into production was Little Ludwig, a 3D animated rock opera with Warner Bros. Pictures. Currently in pre-production at ZFE is The Rise and Fall of Arbogast J. Hogg, an innovative multi-platform venture encompassing movies, books, apps and other digitally integrated products.
