Exclusive: Season 1 of Apple TV+’s legal thriller Presumed Innocent will compete in the Limited or Anthology Series categories at the 2025 Emmy Awards. The designation has been approved by the TV Academy, sources said.
It comes after Presumed Innocent was submitted as a drama series for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, earning star Jake Gyllenhaal a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series, Drama. The show also is being featured in various drama category Emmy prognostications.
The reason for the switch is the evolution Presumed Innocent took over the last few months. The show started off as a limited series adaptation of Scott Turow’s bestselling novel of the same name with no blueprint for a second season.

No one would expect a guy like Jon Hamm to be robbing his neighbors.
In Your Friends & Neighbors, Hamm steps back into leading man role for his Apple series when he stars as Coop, a family man who bets on just that fact when, after he did it all — he got the cars, the house, the stuff — it all comes crashing down.
Newly divorced and having lost his job, Coop (Hamm) decides to start robbing his rich neighbors. “Rich guy loses his big job, has liquidity problems, turns to petty crime. That’s not savvy, that’s stupidity,” he’s told. “Maybe it’s just desperation,” he replies in the trailer (below).
The drama has already been renewed for a second season ahead of launch. Your Friends & Neighbors releases its nine-episode first season on April 11 with two episodes, followed by a weekly episode release on Fridays through the May 30 finale.

House of the Dragon Season 3 promises more fiery action as the Game of Thrones prequel looks to build on its record-breaking run at HBO. One of HBO's top executives ups the anticipation for Season 3 by teasing a bloody and "exciting" battle from the start.
Speaking with Deadline at The White Lotus Season 3 premiere, HBO's Head of Drama Series and Films, Francesca Orsi, stated that Season 3 will begin with the Battle of the Gullet, one of the bloodiest events in the show's source material, George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood. The battle was teased in the Season 2 finale, and Orsi insists House of the Dragon will waste no time getting into it during the Season 3 premiere. “I’m really excited. I think you’re going to be in for a great surprise on how we start the [season] with an exciting battle,” Orsi said. “You know what, it was worth the wait.

HBO series House of the Dragon has a new cast member for the upcoming third season. Happy Valley star James Norton is set to play Ormund Hightower. As Variety reported, Ormund is cousin to Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox) as well as nephew of their father, Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans). As Alicent's cousin, Ormund is also second cousin to her Targaryen sons, the fleeing King Aegon II(Tom Glynn-Carney) and his eye-patched psychopath brother Aemond (Ewan Mitchell). Ormund's title is Lord of Oldtown.
So that sets up the so-called "Green" side of House Targaryen. Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) leads the "Black" side of House Targaryen. The end of House of the Dragon Season 2 saw armies on both sides mustering for war and a handful of new dragon riders entering the fray.

We've heard that the third season of House of the Dragon will film from March through October of this year, a good long time. We have more evidence that things are ramping up now, as Redanian Intelligence reports that director Nina Lopez-Corrado is joining the lineup for the upcoming season.
Lopez-Corrado is an experienced television director who has worked on shows like The Night Agent, Supernatural, FBI: International, and Perry Mason, the latter of which was a severely underrated HBO period drama that in no way deserved to be canceled two seasons in, Fyi. Lopez-Corrado is also part of the directing lineup for the upcoming season season of The Last of Us, another heavy HBO genre drama, so she seems to be carving out a niche for herself. If you can get in good with the people at HBO, you'll have some interesting work ahead of you.

House MD broke the mold with its protagonist, Gregory House. While other TV doctors are celebrated for their impeccable bedside manner, House was appreciated for his cruel method of diagnosing rare diseases. As such, patients were not entirely keen on his mannerisms, but he still managed to save their lives.
It's also astounding that Princeton-Plainsboro has allowed House to work for so long. Even though he's a fantastic doctor, he often does more harm than good to get to the bottom of a case. Thus, while Dr. House is a key part of the hospital, his methods are entirely unethical.

If there’s anything fans anticipate in House of the Dragon all season long, it’s the dragon fight scenes. Nothing is more terrifying and nerve-wracking than seeing these giant beasts take the battle up in the sky, and Season 1 of the hit HBO franchise delivered one of the most intense dragon fight sequences.

The epic finale of the first season was so memorable because not only did it break our hearts with the death of Prince Lucerys Velaryon, but it also kickstarted the major event of the show: the Dance of the Dragons.

The aerial fight between Lucerys Velaryon and Aemond Targaryen above Shipbreaker Bay after their visit at Storm’s End was one of the most exhilarating spectacles in House of the Dragon.

Presumed Innocent is making major changes for Season 2. The next installment of Apple TV+'s hit legal thriller will feature a new female lead, succeeding Jake Gyllenhaal's Rusty Sabich and leaving the Scott Turow universe.
Presumed Innocent Season 1 exhaustively adapted Turow's bestselling novel of the same name, with no obvious path forward for a second season. According to Deadline, Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. TV have acquired the rights to Jo Murray's upcoming debut legal thriller novel Dissection of a Murder. The book follows the female protagonist, Leila Reynolds, who receives her first murder case. Leila is out of her depth, but the defendant only wants her and to make matters worse, her husband is the prosecutor. Soon, Leila is fighting to keep her own secrets buried too. House MD is still considered one of the best medical dramas of all time. Doctor Gregory House is probably one of the most iconic fictional doctors, a character heavily inspired by the popular fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. Fans of House MD tuned in for the show's unique medical mysteries, controversial cases, and House's cynical and sarcastic personality. And with every season, House MD delivered some of the best and most shocking storylines with its season finales.
Every season finale of House is memorable in its own right, either because of its controversial nature or for the multiple shocking twists. Most of the time, the season finale of House MD gave closure to an overarching storyline that developed through the season. Other times, the season finale helped to set up what was to come next for House and his medical team. But no matter the case, while every season finale of...

The Old Man season 2 sees a significant drop in its Rotten Tomatoes score, especially compared to the near-perfection of the show's debut. Based on Tom Perry's 2017 novel, with the Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges in the lead role, the action thriller debuted on FX in June 2022. The story centers around a seemingly average older man with a dangerous past that comes back to haunt him. The Old Man season 2 is about to debut after a delay, premiering on FX on September 12 with two episodes, and streaming on Hulu the next day, but the reception has not been too positive.
Only six reviews have been added so far, which means the score is bound to fluctuate, but The Old Man season 2 started with just 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics are evenly split, with three reviews that lean positive and three that lean negative. But it's a far cry from the reception...

Plot: Former CIA agent Dan Chase and former FBI Assistant Director Harold Harper set off on their most important mission to date — to recover Emily Chase after she is kidnapped by Faraz Hamzad, a powerful Afghan tribal leader. With all three men claiming her as their daughter, Emily finds herself in an identity crisis that has dire implications.
Review: The first season of The Old Man was a unique take on the espionage drama, pitting the great Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow opposite one another despite not sharing the screen until the final episode. Truncated by Bridges’ cancer diagnosis and recovery along with a bout of Covid, the first season of The Old Man concluded with three episodes less than originally intended. Still, the series presented two of our best acting talents, complemented by solid performances from Alia Shawkat and Amy Brenneman, as the series set up an even more exciting sophomore run.

House of the Dragon fans have found a lot to love about the latest season of dragons, dynasties, and death, which is the Game of Thrones universe. However, many have voiced the same complaint about the Season 2 finale the lack of a huge battle. Many seemingly expected the sophomore season of the show to culminate in the Battle of the Gullet, but instead the show went out with a whimper, disappointing those expecting to see fire rain down on Westeros. Showrunner Ryan Condal addressed why Season 2s ending was more about building expectations than delivering another brutal, visual piece of eye candy.

The following article contains Spoilers for Presumed Innocent season 1.
Peter Sarsgaard, one of the several great actors to appear in Apple TV's thriller Presumed Innocent, doesn't have any plans to return to the show for its already confirmed second season. This isn't related to a bad experience doing the show, apparently; he's just not interested in doing sequels of any sort. Of course, we dug around his catalog, and no, he hasn't appeared in any sort of sequels to his films or TV shows. So that tracks.
In Presumed Innocent, Peter Sarsgaard plays Tommy Molto, a prosecutor who's forced to work for the state in a trial against Rusty Sabich (Jake Gyllenhaal), one of his peers. Sabich is accused of brutally killing Carolyn Polhemus, another prosecutor who he had an affair with, and all signs point to the attorney whose odds are not exactly in his favor. Presumed Innocent executive producer/director Greg Yaitanes was a total Jake Gyllenhaal fanboy when he met the actor prior to working with the actor on the hit series. I usually just want to get [the fanboy thing] out of the way, Yaitanes told MovieWeb in a recent interview. Working with Tim Robbins [in Castle Rock], I had to geek out about Shawshank Redemption. But I go to films because Jake's in them. I'll go see Prisoners because he's in it. I'll go see Enemy because he's in it. It attracts me his work and his way of working, which is incredibly natural. There's such an ease that he has in front of the camera that has taken 30 years to craft, and it's beautiful to watch.
Its something to marvel at in Presumed Innocent, in fact. Yaitanes directed about five episodes of the series, which is based on Scott Turow's bestselling 1987 novel, which was...

Get ready for an onslaught of "Dune" material now that Hollywood has recognized there's quite an audience for author Frank Herbert's revered sci-fi saga. Not only do we have the upcoming Max series "Dune: Prophecy," the trailer for which reveals several sacrifices will be made, but we'll also see the return of Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides in a third movie from sci-fi maestro Denis Villeneuve.
After "Dune: Part Two" proved massively popular at a time when the box office wasn't exactly at its peak, you better believe Legendary Pictures decided to keep the spice flowing with a third "Dune" movie. The next installment in Villeneuve's epic saga looks likely to be an adaptation of the second novel in Herbert's original run, with Villeneuve previously revealing his eagerness to adapt "Dune Messiah." At this point, the man can basically do no wrong, having proven Herbert's supposedly "unfilmable...

None of them knew for certain who the killer was until right before we shot the eighth episode, so that was the first shock, admitted Anne Sewitsky, the executive producer and director of Apple TV+s sizzling courtroom thriller, Presumed Innocent. Sewitsky, the Norwegian-American filmmaker whose previous endeavors include Monsterland and Black Mirror, directed the head-turning eighth and final episode of the season. The re-imagined tale, one of Apple TV+'s most-watched dramas, revolved around short-fused prosecutor Rusty Sabich (Jake Gyllenhaal), who becomes a prime suspect in the gritty murder of one of his colleagues (Renate Reinsve).
The series is based on Scott Turow's bestselling 1987 novel, which was adapted into the 1990 film starring Harrison Ford. Sewitsky went on to say that Gyllenhaaland the rest of the cast were very surprised by the big reveal. Spoilers below:

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Presumed Innocent” Episode 8.
In the nail-bitingly tense finale for Apple’s gripping courtroom thriller “Presumed Innocent,” audiences finally learned who killed lawyer Carolyn Polhemus (Renate Reinsve), the former lover of Jake Gyllenhaal’s character Rusty Sabich, who was charged and tried for the murder.
In last week’s episode, Tommy Molto (Peter Sarsgaard), who relished the opportunity to prosecute his longtime rival, was ruled out as a suspect, as director Greg Yaitanes confirmed to TheWrap.
Tommy came home to find someone had left a fireplace poker — possibly the one used to kill Carolyn — in his house, with an unsigned, hand-printed note that read, “Go f—k yourself.”
The Verdict
Despite the probable cause for a mistrial, both sides decided to proceed in the finale, appropriately titled “The Verdict,” with Rusty presenting the summation himself, despite Ray’s reservations.

George R.R. Martin has been mostly impressed with Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, recently praising the franchises most devastating dragon battle yet, and the development of several characters that he had perhaps not fleshed out as much in the novel, Fire and Blood. However, that doesnt mean that the author hasnt got his little bugbears about the HBO adaptation, and one of those is a sloppy mistake in a very prominent part of the Targaryen sigil.
No animal that has ever lived on Earth has six limbs. For what it's worth, the show got it half right. Someone got sloppy, I guess. Or someone opened a book on heraldry, and read just enough of it to muck it all up. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

The following article contains Major spoilers for House of the Dragon.
Rhaenys Targaryen dies in a dragon battle, sparking potential changes in the power dynamics of House of the Dragon. Aegon's fate is uncertain after a dramatic dragon fight, while Aemond's rise to the throne seems inevitable. When Jake Gyllenhaal got to the end of the first episode of Presumed Innocent, he found himself reacting much like viewers of the Apple TV+ limited series hopefully would. He wanted to know what happened next.
“Like an audience member, I think I was just drawn into the story in the same way,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter of reading the pilot script for the project that would serve as his first ongoing small-screen role.
Gyllenhaal was also drawn to the prospect of working with both David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams, who both executive produce the show, with Kelley serving as showrunner, and approached Gyllenhaal, who also executive produces the series, about the project.
“The combination of two of them together was so interesting to me,” he said. “I just thought what an interesting thing to collaborate with people like them.”

Some House of the Dragon fans defend Frankel, emphasizing that he is just an actor doing a great job playing a character they love to hate. Hating actors for playing convincing villains is not new - Lena Headey and Iwan Rheon also faced backlash for their roles in Game of Thrones.
Fabien Frankel, who plays Ser Criston Cole on HBO's Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, has been forced to limit his social media comments after receiving online abuse by some 'passionate' fans. As Season 2 of House of the Dragon further explores the Dance of the Dragons civil war, Criston Cole is one of House Hightower's (otherwise known as the Greens) most loyal followers.
