With more than twenty-five years of experience in the entertainment business, Rob Word has built a successful career as a producer, writer, programmer, packager and network executive with a flair for creative marketing. Currently, Rob is Senior Vice President of Creative Affairs for Insight Film Studios - the most prolific production company in Canada. Working in Los Angeles for the Vancouver-based production entity, Rob manages the solicitation and development of original programming for filming and post production in Canada - from outline through completed productions. At present, he is executive producing the SciFi Channel series, Painkiller Jane, set to premiere April 13, 2007.
Word has held senior management positions at Pax TV, Orion, ITC, Qintex, Hal Roach Studios, Filmways, CST Entertainment and as a senior producer and programming consultant for Columbia TriStar, Lionsgate, MGM-UA, and Starz/Encore Media. Known for generating revenue with re-purposed library inventory, he was also the HRS/Qintex spokesperson in Washington, D.C., for the successful pro digital colorization hearings. Word's producing credits include, among others, the top rated CBS movie, Wyatt Earp: Return to Tombstone, the 2-hour NBC comedy special, Attack of the Killer B Movies, two action series for the Family Channel, T and T starring Mr. T and Crossbow (both ran for three seasons), and the Emmy-nominated 2-hour special, An Ozzie and Harriet Christmas. Other TV movies include: The Adventures of William Tell starring Robert Forster, Bush Doctor, Peking Encounter and Robin Hood: The Movie.
For Universal Television, he wrote, produced and directed the successful pilot presentations for Hercules, Bandit, TekWar, Midnight Run and Dragon, which launched the popular weekly first-run series, The Action Pack Network. Word wrote and produced the pilot for New World's syndicated daytime teen soap, Paradise Beach. Columbia Pictures commissioned his comedy script, Citizen Curly, based on a pitch. He was also the creator and Executive Producer of Totally Tooned In, an animated series of 65 half-hour episodes for Columbia TriStar International Television.
Local market programming positions include stints with WTOG, Tampa, FL; WFTV/ABC, Orlando, FL; WESH/NBC, Orlando, FL; WCGV/FOX, Milwaukee, WI; WTTO, Birmingham, AL; WINK/CBS, Ft. Myers, FL; and KHIZ, LA-Victorville, CA, as Program Director (and co-owner). He also hosted late night movies and celebrity interview strips for several years in Tampa and Orlando, Florida, and hosted movies on The Z Channel in Los Angeles.
Additionally, Word has hosted and produced numerous live events, including Memories of Lonesome Dove with Robert Duvall, Western Memories starring Ed Harris, Holly Hunter, Wilford Brimley and The Sons of the San Joaquin, and (as one of the founding fathers) the prestigious Golden Boot Awards, a benefit for the Motion Picture and Television Fund (now in its 25th year). He has been honored with a plaque at the Lone Pine Film Festival and emceed or participated in dozens of panels at film festivals across the country. He has been featured in Broadcasting, Electronic Media, Video Review, TV Guide, USA Today, Arizona Highways, Cowboys and Indians, Persimmon Hill, Fangoria, TV World, Animation Blast, Tampa Bay Magazine, American Cowboy, The Big Reel, The Los Angeles Times and Entertainment Tonight.
