Universal TV Ups Kiersten Robinson to Senior VP Current

Universal Television has promoted Kiersten Robinson.

The longtime NBCUniversal employee will serve as senior vp current programming, reporting to recent International Studios import JoAnn Alfano. Universal Television president Pearlena Igbokwe announced the news Tuesday.

Said Igbokwe, “Kiersten is a smart, dedicated executive who has earned the respect of her colleagues and the producers she works with and I’m thrilled she will be taking a greater leadership role in our expanding current group.”

Following in the footsteps of recipients such as Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Mariska Hargitay will be presented with the Monte Carlo Television Festival’s top award — the Crystal Nymph — at its opening ceremony on June 15.

Hargitay, who plays Lt. Olivia Benson in the long-running NBC series, has won the lead drama actress Emmy and a Golden Globe along the way, as well as grabbing seven other Emmy nominations and six SAG noms. She is also an exec producer of the show and has directed multiple episodes.

Monte Carlo TV Festival Embraces the Streamers

Netflix might not have been welcome at the Cannes Film Festival this year, but it and other streaming platforms will take center stage further along the Mediterranean coast at this month’s Monte Carlo Television Festival.

Known for its glamorous location, red carpets and press junkets, the festival opens June 15 with the world premiere of Amazon Prime Original series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” from Paramount Television and Skydance Television.

The presence of the streaming services can be felt throughout the program of the festival, which sees itself as a key European launch pad for U.S. and international dramas.

Canadian broadcaster Corus Entertainment has unveiled its package buying at the recent Los Angeles Screenings after picking up dramas and comedies from CBS Television Studios and NBC sibling Universal Television during its annual Hollywood shopping expedition.

The friends, family, and fans of DuShon Monique Brown, who played Chief Boden's assistant Connie on the hit TV show Chicago Fire, were hoping to get some closure when her cause of death was finally revealed. Unfortunately, the information released on May 31 has only caused more confusion. TMZ reports that the 49-year-old actress died of sepsis from an unknown origin, so it's still unknown how her blood got infected and lead to her untimely passing, though obesity and high blood pressure also contributed to the condition. The sad news of her passing first broke on March 23. DuShon had sought out medical help recently for chest pains days earlier. Docs released her, but then she went into cardiac arrest in her home. ‘Chicago Fire’ Actress DuShon Monique Brown’s Cause of Death Released
Chicago Fire” actress DuShon Monique Brown, who died in March at age 49, died of a blood infection, the Cook County, Illinois medical examiner’s office told TheWrap on Thursday.

According to the medical examiner, Brown’s immediate cause of death was sepsis, though the origin of the blood infection is unknown.

Hypertensive cardiovascular disease and obesity were also contributing factors in Brown’s death, the medical examiner’s office added.
