- While making the short film Beyond Dream's Door (1983), Woelfel established lifelong relationships with the two stars, Rick Kesler and Nick Baldasare. The actors went on to appear in many of his other films, including the 1989 feature-length remake, and at Woelfel's 2010 wedding, Baldasare was his best man and Kesler officiated the ceremony.
- His family built and owns the infamous Pink House, a flamingo-pink Victorian mansion in Wellsville, New York. He shot the short film Come to Me Softly (1988) there, providing a rare glimpse at the interior. His parents, Julian and Marcile Woelfel, co-authored a 2018 book about the house and the family's history with William A Paquette.
- [making movies] Most of the challenges to filmmaking have to do with time and money and there is never enough of either unless there is too much of both, so the genre of movie doesn't change that too much.
- To have somebody ask you about your film career is always a little bit staggering, cuz you're like, "Is this really enough of a moneymaker to be called a career?"
- I have this saying that every movie ever made is both the best movie ever made to somebody (aside from the filmmaker or their mother), and every movie is the worst film ever made to somebody. I've rarely found a movie that doesn't have somebody on either end of that crazy spectrum.
