The developer of Titanfall, and the IP itself, are now officially a part of EA.
Originally Titanfall wasn't owned by EA, and Respawn didn't work directly for EA. Instead the company used an indie inspired program to publish their game through EA, but they were always open to publish under anyone. They also had full rights to Titanfall to do as they please, which was a big reason the studio heads left Activision over a huge Call of Duty fiasco and created Respawn to begin with.
Now all of that changes. EA has purchased Respawn and put them under the EA umbrella, along with rights to Titanfall. With that EA also announced the studio is working on a third Titanfall game. Respawn has noted that the transition is currently not leading to any layoffs in the studio, and the creative heads will remain in charge of their games. They also...

After years of fans suggesting it, EA sounds like they are considering a halt in yearly Madden and FIFA titles. EA's Andrew Wilson shared the news with the media in a recent interview and suggested the future in both franchises could be in subscriptions that provide roster updates:
“We can really think about those games as a 365-day, live service.”
Wilson stopped short of confirming EA might begin this trend with the next edition of games that roll out, but before fans get too excited over this news...let's remember who we're dealing with here. As it stands right now, the changes year to year in Madden and FIFA titles is minimal at best...so EA is practically already doing that. They're also selling well, and have sold well for a very long time, so it's not like money is an issue.
So why would EA be down for killing their cash cow?...

EA has noted that they may end yearly sports titles in favor of a “subscription like service” that will replace them. This is both an intriguing idea, and yet a fearful idea. Find out after the jump.

EA Chief Andrew Wilson mentioned in an interview that the publisher could drop yearly sports titles in favor of “365 day subscriptions.” While no pricing or structure was mentioned, Wilson explained that the shift from disc to more digital outlets was a reasoning for the change. This would allow EA to treat games as a service, adding details or minor updates throughout the year instead of requiring a whole new game for minor updates.
“There’s a world where it gets easier and easier to move that code around -- where we may not have to do an annual release,” Wilson told Bloomberg TV host Emily Chang...

In the 18 months between Battlefront‘s launch and now, Electronic Arts and developer Dice have consistently promised a more robust sequel in the form of Star Wars Battlefront II, thanks in large part to the addition of a fully-fledged single-player campaign.
It’s arguably the one feature that was sorely missed from the 2015 shooter, and last month’s Star Wars Celebration brought word that Dice’s follow-up will pull content from all three canonical eras, allowing you to take control of Rey and even the fan-favorite Darth Maul. Going one step further, EA boss Andrew Wilson has now claimed Star Wars Battlefront II will come packing “three times the content” of its predecessor at launch, which ought to allay fears that Electronic Arts was planning to lock vast swathes of content behind a Season Pass.

Robert A. “Bob” Wilson — father of Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson and Andrew Wilson — has died, Luke confirmed to the Dallas Morning News. Luke told the outlet that his dad died Friday after years of battling Alzheimer’s disease. He was 75.
A longtime presence in Dallas’ television arena, Bob helped pave the way for Kera, North Texas’ public broadcasting station. His influence inspired a 2011 documentary called Bob Wilson and the Early Years of Kera, released as the station marked its 50th anniversary — a celebration whose gala Bob was too sick to attend at the time, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Though the writing has been on the wall for some time, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson has now officially acknowledged that Titanfall 2‘s sales figures were lower than expected.
Wilson touched on Respawn’s sequel during a recent earnings call, and though the executive stopped short of disclosing exact numbers – mind you, EA is reportedly backing away from posting specific sales figures for any of its titles – Andrew Wilson confirmed that Titanfall 2 missed the mark sales-wise. EA still maintains a “great relationship” with Respawn, according to the CEO.
Looking back with the benefit of hindsight, many have since attributed the sequel’s poor performance to a late October release window – remember, Titanfall 2 was sandwiched between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – however, Andrew Wilson believes the first-person shooter will enjoy strong sales momentum over the coming...

Electronic Arts has long made it clear that the focus of Star Wars Battlefront was to nail the “core multiplayer experience,” and it’s hard to argue that EA and Dice failed to deliver.
But for all of the praise directed at Dice’s Battlefront reboot, many lamented the lack of content and, in particular, the decision to forego a single-player campaign altogether. Thankfully, the Swedish dev has been keeping one ear to the ground, and plans are already in place to deliver a Star Wars Battlefront 2 that is not only “much bigger” and “more ambitious” than its predecessor, but one that will also expand the focus beyond the multiplayer realm.
With a holiday 2017 release fast approaching, Dice has called upon the help of Criterion and Motive, two fellow EA studios assisting on the sequel’s development. Touting an “all-new single-player campaign,” EA head honcho Andrew Wilson offered up some...

Pinocchio is probably a bit low on your list of classic tales that could use a 21st-century makeover, but a take that’s helmed by Matteo Garrone (Tale of Tales, Gommorah) and led by Toni Servillo (The Great Beauty) is, if nothing else, more interesting than most possible combinations. (I’m still a bit peeved the Paul Thomas Anderson-Robert Downey Jr. one never took off, though.) Per Variety, the director’s Archimede Productions is partnering with Jeremy Thomas’ Recorded Picture Company and Le Pacte on a project that will combine physical materials with CGI for the purposes of a “a unique fantasy world of mystery and wonder, with a story filled with luminous, funny and touching moments.” Whatever that actually means.
Garrone takes it as a continuation of his previous feature, Tale of Tales, but also says it’s “a dream of mine that goes back in time,...

Alexander McQueen was one of the most acclaimed, celebrated British fashion designers through his tragic death in 2010. Now, Pathé and director Andrew Haigh will make a biopic of McQueen starring actor Jack O’Connell. It will be written by Chris Urch, award-winning playwright of “The Rolling Stone” and “Land of our Fathers,” and based on Andrew Wilson’s biography “Blood Beneath the Skin.”

The film will follow McQueen and his creative process in the months leading up to his 2009 show where he stunningly re-worked his greatest designs from the past 15 years, providing an intimate portrait of the man behind the brand and a celebration of the genius whose designs were just as much art as fashion.
O’Connell is best known for his starring roles in British prison drama “Starred Up,” historical thriller “’71” and most recently, Jodie Foster’s thriller “Money Monster.

Continuing on his rise to the big leagues, English actor Jack O’Connell has agreed terms to headline Pathé’s untitled Alexander McQueen project, one which will be directed by Andrew Haigh.
A biopic based on the life and legacy of the legendary fashion designer has been kicking around for some time, and today’s casting of O’Connell stands as one giant, exciting step forward. Coming hot off 45 Years, Haigh will direct from a script penned by acclaimed playwright Chris Urch (The Rolling Stone). Andrew Wilson’s biography Blood Beneath the Skin is said to be the main jumping-off point, chronicling McQueen’s rise to prominence through London’s fashion scene. Born in 69, Alexander McQueen began life as a working class son of a Scottish taxi driver in Lewisham, London. Having worked as chief designer at fashion house Givenchy, the visionary is perhaps best known for founding his own Alexander McQueen label.

The latter isn’t expected to arrive until late next year, but Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson firmly believes that both upgrades will prove “great additions” to the entire industry.

Electronic Arts has posted its earnings call for the full fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, heralding news of a “phenomenal” year for the publisher and, unsurprisingly, a Star Wars Battlefront sequel.
It’s now expected to release in 2017, promising “bigger and better worlds” that feature content from Disney’s new wave of feature films. Elsewhere, the third-person Star Wars games in the works at Visceral Games – creative minds behind Dead Space and last year’s Battlefield Hardline – is on course to hit in 2018. No word of when the recently-announced Respawn game will arrive, but considering that the developer is hard at work on Titanfall 2, it’s unlikely to drop anytime before 2018.
As for Dice’s flagship Battlefront series, the franchise is in remarkably good health now that last year’s licensed game has shipped over 14 million copies since launch. That’s a tally that broke past even EA’s internal sales forecasts,...

Mass Effect Andromeda, Battlefield 5 and Respawn’s all-but-confirmed Titanfall 2 may still be searching for firm release dates, though during a post-earnings financial call (via GameSpot) CEO Andrew Wilson noted that all three titles will launch during fiscal year 2017.
Outside of business jargon, that places the trio in question on course for a debut somewhere between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017, with common logic dictating that Andromeda and Dice’s Battlefield 5 will occupy the all-important fall window, while Titanfall 2 will echo its predecessor by making its titanic bow in March of next year.
That’s merely conjecture, of course, and while there’s scant detail to be found about either release, Wilson did offer a fleeting update regarding Respawn’s sequel. Building on the success of the Xbox console exclusive, the EA executive teased that Respawn’s follow-up is already “looking fantastic,” and that he has “great faith in [Respawn] to build a spectacular game.

Video-game maker Electronic Arts enjoyed a helping hand from Hans Solo and company, with its “Star Wars Battlefront” game helping turn in solid fiscal third-quarter earnings Thursday. Murtada here with the biopic news of the week.
After 45 Years I’d watch whatever Andrew Haigh decides to do next. His follow-up choice though would be exciting even in a vacuum; without knowing any of his previous films. Haigh is going to make a biopic of the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen (1969-2010). The movie will be based in part on the biography Alexander McQueen: Blood Beneath The Skin, by Andrew Wilson, which was published in the UK last year.
McQueen had a fascinating life which could make for a great film in Haigh's hands. Growing up in a London council flat, his talent took him from Savile Row to Givenchy to his own eponymous design house that continues to thrive. Alongside John Galliano, he was dubbed fashion’s "British enfant terribles". Carrying on the tradition of designers like Jean Paul Gaultier who went against the norm and...

Andrew Haigh ("45 Years") has signed on to direct and Chris Urch to write the Alexander McQueen biopic at Pathe.
Andrew Wilson's biography "Blood Beneath The Skin" will partly serve as inspiration for the film about a taxi driver's openly gay son who became an iconic and prestigious UK fashion designer who had the likes of Prince Charles and David Bowie for clients.
He became head designer at Givenchy before starting his own label, but the success also saw him become dependent on drugs and ultimately commit suicide in 2010 just over a week after his mother Joyce had died of cancer.
Damian Jones will produce the project which aims to get into production before the end of the year. Haigh is also developing an adaptation of Willy Valutin's novel "Lean on Pete" about the friendship between a teenboy and a racehorse.

It may not have been greeted with the same furore as the most recent trailer for The Force Awakens, but today’s international teaser for J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi follow-up reminded us all once again that, almost irrefutably, this holiday season belongs to Star Wars. While Disney has laid siege to one medium, Dice and publisher EA will be vying for the mind share in another in the form of Star Wars Battlefront, the pair’s high-profile licensed title that is setting out to render the beloved original trilogy like never before.
That striking authenticity not only encompasses the locations – of which include Hoth, Sullust, Endor and Taootine – but also the characters themselves, with previous sizzle reels spotlighting Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Leia Organa and Emperor Palpatine. Now, it’s left to famed bounty hunter Boba Fett to enter the fray, and one loyal YouTuber has stitched together the...

Electronic Arts has mapped out its sales estimation for Dice’s soon-to-be-released licensed title Star Wars Battlefront, gauging that the high-profile shooter is on course to sell upwards of 13 million units within its first four months on the market – before March 31, 2016, essentially.
This comes hot on the heels of the overly successful beta test for Battlefront, which itself brought in over 9 million unique users across its week-long period of testing. Couple that with the excitement generated for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and EA and Dice’s shooter couldn’t be releasing at a more opportune time.
Addressing the early estimation – which is up from the initial estimate of 10 million – CEO Andrew Wilson spoke to the company’s investors to say that:
“What we have seen is that Star Wars is bringing in two groups that are very important groups to us,” Wilson revealed. “One are gamers that have lapsed,...

Alex Greenfield and Ben Powell, the writing duo behind Frightfest flick The Sand – which is due for VOD release in the UK from the Frightfest/Icon Film shingle Frightfest Presents on October 19th – have scored second place in the prestigious 2015 ScreenCraft Horror Screenplay Contest behind Scott Hamilton & Pj Hamilton’s script, a werewolf tale entitled Bad Moon Rising.
Beating out over 1,000 other submissions, Greenfield and Powell’s script for Plague Ship tells the story of a newly married couple whose honeymoon becomes a nightmare when a deadly plague breaks out on their luxury cruise ship. The pair must do anything and everything to keep each other safe, both from infection and from the ship’s crew, who have decided that slaughtering passengers is the only way to keep the plague from spreading.
I’ve had a sneak peek at the screenplay and it’s safe to say I was hooked from page one.

It's no secret that Visceral Studios - the EA studio behind acclaimed the Dead Space series and this year's Battlefield Hardline - has been working on a story-driven Star Wars game since last year.
Details have been thin on the ground, but social media posts by staff working on the game - including former Uncharted leads Amy Hennig and Todd Shashwick, as well as voice actor Nolan North - indicate that the title could be dedicated to Han Solo.
Numerous posts over the last few months, as identified by Game Informer, have included appearances of Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon, as well as references to pirates and quotes from Solo himself.

2014 may have been the first year since ’97 that EA didn’t release a new iteration in the Need for Speed franchise, but if the company’s CEO Andrew Wilson is to be believed, then ardent fans of the long-running racer will soon discover that the wait was worth it.
During a recent earnings call to investors, Wilson claimed that 2015’s entry into the series — in development at Swedish dev Ghost Games, following up on the well-received Rivals — is “already looking spectacular.” Alas, the executive remained mum on any further details pertaining to the title, though it would seem that this year’s new installment is relatively far in development, with all signs pointing to an E3 reveal in June.

As we approach year two of the new generation of consoles, I can't help but be disappointed. Two games currently sit on my shelf, unplayable in the way they were advertised to me. These aren't Indie titles, mind you, or bargain barrel franchises.
Ten years ago, if GTA: San Andreas gad promised me a set of cooperative heists missions only to not once, But Twice fail to provide it to me on promised dates, the game would be in the trash. If Halo 2 had launched its competitive online multiplayer to endless problems and glitches for the first three months, the franchise wouldn't have lived to see Halo 3.
It's unfair to single out just those two games, as several others, including Watch Dogs, NBA 2K15, and Battlefield 4, all launched with broken features, some of which still haven't been resolved and won't be.
What changed from then to now? Why is it...

Another public beta is in the cards for EA’s Battlefield Hardline and it is said to be slated for sometime in early fall, in advance of the game’s scheduled October 21st release date. The first beta for Battlefield Hardline ended on June 26th for PlayStation 4 and PC, several weeks after it was announced at the 2014 Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3).
For EA, the news of another beta later this fall suggests they are trying to avoid the errors that plagued Battlefield 4 upon its release on next-generation consoles. The game runs in mostly smooth form online nowadays, but as recently as several months ago, users experienced rampant disconnection, lagging, and other annoyances during online play.

Yesterday EA announced their plans for an E3 2014 preview show that will be live streamed in a few places (details on that will be given below), but they didn't say what would be discussed. EA has been very keen to talk about its new Ignite game engine, which is set to power the majority of its sporting titles on next gen, and the tech does look very promising. However, PC owners looking forward to a next gen FIFA may miss out on this advancement, at least for now.
Talking to Polygon, EA Sports exec, Andrew Wilson, stated that the majority of FIFA fans' gaming PCs out in the marketplace are not able to cope with the new engine.
"Even though there were some PCs on the marketplace that could run that engine, the lion's share of PCs on the marketplace could not,” he said.
"The majority of the gamer base that was playing the game on PC did not have a PC spec that would work with that.
