U.S. Management & Production Firm Zero Gravity Opens UK Office, Taps ‘Sense8’ Exec Producer To Lead Division

La management and production firm Zero Gravity has opened a UK office, appointing Brit producer Leon Clarance to head operations.

The company, whose credits include Ben Affleck starrer The Accountant and hit Netflix series Ozark, previously partnered with Clarance on Andrew Scott thriller A Dark Place (known in UK as Steel Country).

Clarance recently produced Jason Sudeikis-starring movie Kodachrome and was an executive producer on Netflix series Sense8. His remit at Zero Gravity will be to attract acting, writing, directing and below-the-line talent to the company with a view to producing and financing material which has international appeal whilst building a team from scratch.

Clarance, A Dark Place director Simon Fellows and Zero Gravity partner Mark Williams are currently in pre-production on The Department, a sci-fi-thriller created by Fellows and co-written by Luke Garrett which examines current themes of civil liberties and state intervention. Liam Neeson to Star in Action-Thriller ‘The Minuteman’
Liam Neeson is returning to familiar turf, starring in the independent action-thriller “The Minuteman” from director Robert Lorenz.

Voltage Pictures is on board to represent the movie at the Cannes Film Festival. CAA and UTA Independent Film Group will co-represent the U.S. rights.

Neeson has starred in the “Taken” trilogy, along with “Widows,” “The Commuter,” “Run All Night” and “Cold Pursuit.” He’ll next be seen in “Men in Black: International.”

Hell or High Water’ and ‘Outlaw King’ filmmaker, David Mackenzie, has entered into negotiations to take the helm on a new spy franchise ‘Jett Day’.

Dubbed as a sequel to ‘The Accountant’, the film follows a black ops agent on a mission to prevent a newly-discovered diamond mine from falling into Russian hands.

Written and produced by ‘Ozark’ creator Bill Dubuque, Warner Bros are hoping to fill the void between Bond films with this new Spy franchise to keep those audiences fulfilled until the next much-beloved Bond resurfaces for a new mission.

The studio is also hoping to enlist the services of a fresh-faced A-lister to front the franchise along the lines of a Michael B. Jordan or Channing Tatum.

‘Making a Murderer’ Attorney Kathleen Zellner Says State Is ‘Trying to Deceive’ About Pelvic Bone
Kathleen Zellner, the attorney for “Making a Murderer” subject Steven Avery, says she received a voicemail that shows the State of Wisconsin is “trying to deceive” her about the status of a pelvic bone found in a gravel pit.

Zellner sent a letter to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals on Wednesday explaining that the “State has continuously represented to undersigned counsel since 2016 that the State was in possession of the pelvic bone.” She then explained that she received new ledger sheets on Feb. 8 that showed the pelvic bone, listed as Item #9, as being “only human.” A 2011 police report indicated that all human bones were separated from the non-human bones found in the gravel pit, and all the human bones were then returned to the family of Teresa Halbach, who was murdered in 2005 and for which Avery is in prison.

PGA Announces Top 10 Film and Television Nominations, Packing In Surprises

Now we know what the most popular movies are vying for Oscars this year: The Producers Guild of America’s motion picture and television nominations went mainstream. Winners will be revealed at the 30th Annual Producers Guild Awards, to be held January 19 at the Beverly Hilton.

Many of these films will wind up on the the final list of Oscar nominations to be revealed on January 22; the eventual winners are here as well. That does not mean that “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “A Quiet Place,” or “Crazy Rich Asians” will land Best Picture nominations, but it is a sign of strength and popularity. Oscar voters tend to take degree of difficulty in production into consideration, and may lean into big box office hits this year.

The Producers Guild has unveiled nominations for its 30th annual PGA Awards, listing nominees for the year’s best-produced works in motion pictures, television and short-form categories. The awards will be presented January 19 at the Beverly Hilton.

The 10-strong film list encapsulates the diverse range of films that have been making their way through awards season this year, spanning superheroes (Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther), romantic comedy (Warner BrosCrazy Rich Asians), musical drama (20th Century Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Warners’ A Star Is Born) and genre thriller (Paramount’s A Quiet Place).

Shout! Studios has acquired North American Rights from Bankside Films to the thriller A Dark Place by Malice In Wonderland director Simon Fellows.

Shout! Studios plans to release the film across numerous entertainment platforms in 2019.
