‘Will & Grace’ On Speed: Gotham-Nominated Web Series ‘The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo’ Is A Surreal Ride
Remember this name: Brian Jordan Alvarez. He is the director, writer, producer and star of the short form comedy “The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo,” an electric comedy that plugs into the zeitgeist the way “Girls” did, banters like “Broad City,” and boasts the chutzpah necessary in order to get away with naming a character “Lenjamin McButtons.”

Part of the genius of “Caleb Gallo” is that it defies conventional wisdom about making a short form series compelling to online audiences: The episodes are long, there is no discernible premise that can be squeezed into a snappy log line — even the title is a mouthful. Most potentially problematic is that if one were to summarize its plot, “Caleb Gallo” is basically a series about the love lives of five actor friends living in Los Angeles, one of the digital space’s most tired premises. These days, anyone making a

SXSW Film Review: ‘Babysitter’

SXSW Film Review: ‘Babysitter’
Addled children of the entertainment industry — a teenage boy in the midst of his movie-making parents’ divorce and the daughter of a deceased, drug-addicted singer — forge a friendship that escalates into a deeper affection in “Babysitter.” This feature directorial debut from actor Morgan Krantz (who also wrote and edited) has fine turns from Max Burkholder (TV’s “Parenthood”) and Daniele Watts (“Weeds”) to recommend it, but it also plays like it’s been strung together from several underdeveloped ideas, few of them satisfying. It’s a minor-key effort that will have trouble holding its own in a market glutted with wispy coming-of-age indies.

Hailey is embroiled in a custody battle over Ray and his younger sister, Stella (Gracie Loveland). For her,

Daniele Watts charged with lewd conduct by Jennie Kermode - 2014-10-22 13:13:26

Actress Daniele Watts caused quite a stir last month when she spoke out about her detention by Los Angeles police, accusing them of racial profiling. Now Watts, who was originally arrested on suspicion of prostitution, has been charged with committing a lewd act, leading to allegations that the police are looking for payback.

With Watts' husband also facing charges, the couple could be looking at up to six months in prison and a fine of $1,000 - despite the fact that police sergeant Jim Parker reportedly told the Los Angeles Times that the incident would have been ignored if Watts had cooperated. The actress objected to being asked to show ID, arguing that she was doing nothing wrong by kissing her husband in a public place. The American Civil Liberties Union (Aclu) has backed her on this but the Lapd is maintaining its position. Watts has filed a formal complaint.

Actress in ‘Kissing While Black’ Case Charged for Alleged Sex in Public
Danièle Watts — the Django Unchained actress who claimed she was handcuffed for “kissing while black” — has been charged with a misdemeanor charge of lewd conduct after allegedly having sex with her boyfriend in a car in L.A. last month. While Watts initially said her detention was the result of racial profiling, TMZ released an audio recording and photos of the incident shortly after that appeared to corroborate police allegations — basically, it gets tricky. "We were sent a collection of evidence from law enforcement and after review, our prosecutors felt filing was appropriate," spokesman Frank Mateljan told the New York Daily News today. If convicted, both Watts and her boyfriend, Brian James Lucas, face a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
